posted in shooting uncategorized tagged contourhd hatcam helmetcam xdm 3 comments had an idea today while driving back from the park with the kids about how to lower the camera position on my headband cam found an extra contour hd mount that came with the original packaging and removed it from the case next there were four holes in the mount that i can use to secure it to my cap i drilled through the lip of the cap where the holes were and dropped mini 4 cable ties into the holes and then pull on the ties to secure it tightly and snip off the excess now i have a really strong base for my contour hd here s how it looks like i have to wear my earmuffs to hold the cap in place or it ll slide forward because of the weight of the contour hd camera since i m right eye dominant i ve secured uncategorized tagged idpa magwell pistolgear uspsa xdm 3 comments i had an issue with the excellent pistolgear operator magwell on my xdm that stopped me from using it for a while the magwell was engineered to meet the grip frame tightly making a seamless seal the only problem is the magazine has a small plastic rubber extrusion that squished up against the magwell so with advice from deadeyesteve through my youtube video i took my best file and got to work this is the end result i shaved off about 1mm of material and made the magwell flush to the outside of the grip frame so that will allow the magazine to sit into the grip naturally ok i know i m not perfect but it works miraculously now i got my old idpa esp and uspsa limited gun back sweet draw fire reload fire drills this video i decided to spend some time to practice drawing and reloading checkout the drills here and watch the funny bloopers at the end will try this out again for real next time in the range to been tinkering with trying to mount the contour hd camera onto my earmuffs or anywhere i can film my shooting from the first person pov trying to mount it with glue sticky foam home made rigs official vholdr accessories nothing worked till i saw aristotle s post on using cable ties to secure his headcam so i took the official contourhd round velcro mount removed the bottom velcro base unit and used the top part i secured the mount to the headband using velcro cut into an oval shape the only reason for doing that is the headband is flexible so i needed the velcro base to allow the mount to move freely when the headband flexes problem with that is it moves freely so this is where the cable ties come into play i secured the mount down using black cable ties then because the mount is smooth the ties could slip out i used a 4 cable tie to bind the left and right cable ties with this configuration it s amazingly secure the whole mount will not move or shake yet it will withstand the flexible nature of the headband here s how the contour hd looks like when it s on the mount i m happy now to take this to the range and give it a whirl stay tuned to more videos on my youtube page big fat with big huge range bags i can t imagine why they need so much stuff in their bags when they go shooting it wasn t until i started shooting competitively that i realized that my range bag ended up many people on the xdtalk forums polishing their xd barrels i decided to try my hands on it too thanks fo rogerxd45 and his excellent polishing guide here are the tools i m using the liquid metal polish green medium grade from http brilexsolutions com here s a close up of the barrel before polishing i realized that using the dremel polishing tip took a long long time after my battery powered screwdriver unit ran out of battery i switched to using my hands and it was much faster i could cover more surface much more evenly and much quicker the tip of the barrel was the easiest one to do first coat it with green stuff then rub away on a flat surface voila it took over two hours to get the chamber and barrel front half polished to my satisfaction i m sure i can do more and complete the whole thing but most of the barrel will be hidden from sight anyway so here it is completed back on the slide slide locked back and the tip i ordered a silver guide rod which should arrive from out a iwb inside the waist band holster and i admit i was very skeptical about the ability for these types of holsters to be carried for an extensive period of time after putting on these excellently comment after being recommended by two separate people recently i decided to pickup brian enos practical shooting book this book has been called the practical shooter s bible took this book with me for my vacation over the weekend and loving it brian talks about getting into the right mindset even before you fire off your first shot great stuff my best section there s no such thing as a double tap brian says that every shot is a normal shot where you see your sights even when the split is less than 0 15 of a second there is no such thing is holding your sights on target and firing off two
