Text of the page (random words):
on the road to find out on the road to find out well i hit the rowdy road and many kinds i met there many stories told me of the way to get there there s so much left to know and i m on the road to find out tuesday january 10 2017 it s been 4 years since i ve written anything on this blog i hate that i don t keep better records of life s happenings especially with young children who change and have changed so much over the years i ve done them a disservice so i ll start again from today it is january 10th 2017 mountain cedar is in the air so my eyes itch and hay fever is wacky the weather after a serious cold snap that brought just the tiniest bit of snow to us winter deprived texans is again warm and pleasant this afternoon i bought some perennials and came straight home and yanked out the overgrown and ugly i haven t had a lot of luck getting things to grow and look good in front of the house here s hoping the big news is that i ve started working full time in october i ve been home with the kids for seven years i wanted to stay home after i had soren i felt like three kids was a lot and wanted to be home for a year or two with the move s it took seven to go back it was a huge challenge to find a job i spent a year trying to get a job as a school nurse but after numerous interviews and rejections never having been rejected for a job before it was rather painful i realized school nursing wasn t my path i tried to get back into the hospital and labor and delivery but was told i d basically have to start over go back and work med surg again i was told how does one go back and do something they ve never done i was finally offered a job at medical city arlington as an rn intern in labor and delivery so i did sort of start over but in the best way possible l d is a much better fit for me being an intern means i can be a learner for a longer time and really get my feet back under me it was a rough start a story for another post maybe but i m overall very happy there and feel good working again i feel like a better person a better mom and that s so important i m grateful i could stay home but i ve always known i need to work at least a little bit and kick myself in a way my mental health suffered as i made excuses and saw the obstacles to returning to work rather than finding solutions and making it a priority i m 41 maybe some day i ll learn overall i think it s been positive my feeling is that the kids are doing fine they seem to like the handful of sitters we have they seem to like having a bit more independence and maybe responsibility i hope that s the case i check in with them and they say they miss me when i m gone but they do seem happy just the same doug has been hugely supportive and does what he can to make it smooth what do i like about working again i use my brain l d nursing is very technical i have to be on top of my game and understand maternal and fetal physiology i have to understand what i see when i monitor and understand what that tells me about the baby s status i have to communicate to my peers and physicians i have the opportunity to educate moms and families i have the chance to help someone through life altering events i can keep people safe and well and show i care it s high tech but high touch as well i have coworkers to talk to and honestly i love making money nurses don t make a huge salary but i m happy bringing home a paycheck it s time to walk to the crosswalk to meet keegen and soren my walking buddy zeb is excited another post there too posted by ashlee at 1 42 pm no comments tuesday october 23 2012 signs of my improving mental health posted by ashlee at 11 51 am 1 comment tuesday october 2 2012 daybook 10 2 12 for today outside my window the sun is just starting to shine on my live oak it s cool and a little bit gray fall for texas is finally arriving i am thinking not a lot just getting moving after getting the boys to school i love riding bikes with them to school i feel good knowing they are getting some exercise before a long day of mostly sitting i love that they know because we can ride bikes physically geographically that we do they dig it too i am thankful for the cooler weather just when i thought i couldn t take the constant sunshine and blazing heat anymore 6 months of very little variation the rain rolled in and the air is cooling from the kitchen nothing yet today the frequent breakfast of gluten free frozen waffles slathered in peanut butter with a smidge of syrup needs cleaning up i am wearing my jean capris andmy carve brown henley i just might have to dig out my slippers soon i am creating nothing i am going to take soren to preschool soon and then i have a few blissful hours to myself i am reading happiness at home by gretchen rubin a lot of it is common sense or thoughts that i ve had but putting it into action is a different story it s a worthwhile read i am hoping to accomplish some things around the house today i am hearing the grapevine high school marching band my back doors are flung wide open to let in as much cool air as possible and i love hearing the drums and brass it s one of my favorite things here each weekday morning and friday night of course the birds are competing with the band also hearing soren chatter next to me as she creates piles of water color creations around the house ohmygosh seriously still a complete disaster embarrassing disaster and it matters now because we are getting to know people and want to have kids and families over and there is no way that will happen with the house in its current state people drop by now and i am too embarrassed to even open the door so big work ahead one of my favorite things soren s artwork she s drawing people and faces and it s fun to watch that process and the marching band i love waking up to that and feeling some community spirit a few plans for the rest of the week lots of running kids around to their activities i want to make sure i make it to yoga at least twice this week i have a massage scheduled we joined lifetime and they offer a coupon for a super cheap one so i couldn t just let it go to waste lots of cleaning and organizing here is a picture i am sharing she s three posted by ashlee at 7 30 am no comments saturday august 4 2012 breck gondola sunday morning we took the gondola up to peak 8 that was supposed to be the adventure but we got sucked into taking the kids mini golfing at the top beautiful views soren and i split a 4 bag of skittles while the kids finished their game good stuff kristen left sunday afternoon and the kids and i had one more night at the condo we hit the toy store in town where i spent way too much money supporting local business right i slept upstairs with the window open to hear the stream bliss posted by ashlee at 5 53 pm 2 comments breckenridge as if it weren t enough that they put us up in colorado springs kristen treated us to a weekend in breckenridge we drove up friday night i hadn t been there during the summer months and it was beautiful the creek was running behind their place and the kids had a blast exploring that one their own they were gone the better part of saturday just making up secret places along the banks i missed my chance to snap a pic of these guys at the creek glad kristen got one with her phone it stormed the first day there it was wonderful love a good mountain rain so we made some toothpick marshmallow creations and drank some hot cocoa after the kids got caught outside in it a perfect day bode is so comfortable and happy with these kids he s known them since he was 2 1 2 so much more himself than i ve seen in the past 12 months time in breck wouldn t be complete without fondue kristen and i were kind enough to share with the kids posted by ashlee at 5 49 pm 1 comment friday july 13 2012 photo dump day 1 2 3 colorado springs this was our reunion evening with the lowerys the closest thing we have to family in colorado or texas for that matter the kids picked up where they left off and i love watching that soren holding one of kristen s girls we met up with the poulson s and erickson s in falcon keegen jumped in soren was pooped and it took bode some time to warm up but it was a great visit i loved catching up and the kids had a great time snuggles with linnea keegs bode sammy hayden gannon keegen was very attached to that sword and hat i m surprised he let soren wear it shaved ice posted by ashlee at 4 13 pm no comments wednesday july 11 2012 grapevine to colorado springs summer is long here twelve weeks in unbearable heat i knew i would need to get away so a road trip seemed like the perfect thing we took two days to drive to colorado springs stopping in dumas tx for the night it was a painless two days only about 7 hours each day we stopped at the capulin volcano national monument in new mexico on day 2 it was a quick stop but a perfect way to get a break and a walk and see something interesting and
