american tuesday january 30 2018 hello old blogosphere i find myself on a plane with wifi and work emails being quiet looking through the old blog list i see most people have gone on to other things facebook fb i think that s where the majority of my web time is spent these days i know several of the old bloggers on fb some i can only wonder it s been a couple hella crazy years i may spend some time documenting life s happenings here as a backup to fb is it blasphemous to think fb will collapse stay tuned leave a hi if you come across this and look me up on fb at 6 52 pm 0 comments friday june 19 2015 30 second theatrical event i hate commercials i record tv i do not watch commercials except for the super bowl i almost never watch live tv even the super bowl if i find something new i want to watch i ll set it to record and go find something else to do piddle in the garage or kitchen play with the dogs anything but watch commercials i don t think i am abnormal in this passion consequently advertisers have a challenge make a 30 second show that catches your attention before you fast forward the show or has something visually catching that makes you stop rewind and watch the commercial i appreciate the effort after all my tv time is all about being entertained and if the madison ave folks can do this in a commercial so be it i am entertained i have seen a local automobile dealership has taken the approach that you can t fast forward immediately when a show breaks and rarely do you stop on the instant a show comes back on in other words even i end up seeing the first 3 5 seconds of the first commercial and last 3 10 seconds of the last commercial this dealership has a 15 second commercial campaign that is the first and last commercial in a break i end up seeing both i do not remember the dealerships name so fail but good effort i do appreciate the creative and new approach my dislike for commercials extends to music i pay for xm and have hours of mp3s that i listen to regularly i even dislike the xm djs touting their other shows on other xm stations i mean i paid for music quit talking xm and pandora keep me informed as to new music if i only listed to my mp3s i d never hear the new stuff right so some commercials get to me again in appreciation of the challenge advertisers have for getting my attention one has my attention the 2015 us open listening to pandora the commercial has no words just sounds there is a video and a 5 second snippet of we re an american band by grand funk i was so intrigued that i had to click rapidly over to the pandora window next time so i could watch it i ve watched it a few times now i remember the advertiser i am talking about the commercial i blogged about the commercial success i have been entertained at 6 15 pm 0 comments wednesday may 27 2015 so wow it s been a long long time this morning on my way to work a truck cut across 3 lanes in front of me i swerved hard to miss him it is amazing how much goes through your head when something like that happens i knew i was going to die keep in mind all of this happened in less than 2 3 seconds i was in the far right lane going right to left in the picture i have a small car and the road in that area has a slight upgrade to it i saw the top of the delivery truck coming in the left most oncoming lane and it seemed oddly fast in its approach traffic for the light up to the left off the picture was backed up past the drive way entrance on the lower right like i said i was in the far right lane no traffic headed for the second entrance to go to the sheetz gas station on the corner i could see that the truck was not slowing i glanced at the traffic sitting still and notice that everyone had left an opening for left turning traffic for this massively large compared to my little car truck to turn in front of me what were they thinking why isn t he stopping he s not stopping oh shit i m fucked i m guessing i was doing 40 i saw the truck make the turn without slowing i jumped on the brakes there was a pickup coming out of the parking lot i m dead this is it i m going to die i swerved right left right and missed everyone dramatic pause for effect i was down to 20 mph i looked back in the rearview mirror after the longest 3 seconds of my life before i entered the parking lot the delivery truck had stopped its front tire was in the right wheel portion of what was my lane his bumper was over the right edge of the lane i thought my heart was going to explode even now as i type this some 5 hours later i can feel my heart starting to race in my mind s eye i saw the delivery truck hit me at the rear axle spin me around into the curb maybe missing the stopped pick up i saw me flip upside down at the curb and land in the ditch the whole thing seemed like a slow motion re play i had that series of thoughts and the whole thing was over i was through it i turned into the second driveway and parked at the gas station for about 20 minutes i was shaking my heart was pounding i felt like my brain was rattling oddly enough not fast i measured it on my phone app and it recorded 79 bpm they were like heart explosions it wasn t racing it was exploding i could feel my heart pounding in my finger tips his bumper was over the right edge of my lane i doubt i swerved that much it took him some time to see me react and stop but omg i swear it was inches i was inches from ending be prepared know your car how does it react in high speed swerve situations under steer over steer does the ass end break loose if so what do you do now how do you react situational awareness see the things around you i should have known the potential for that gap in traffic someone coming through shenanigans was high given the traffic in the area i probably should have slowed down right now at work 5 hours later i m not worth a shit i can t concentrate i can t stop thinking about those events hopefully writing this will let me release it i m guessing smoked makers mark is exceptionally good the house special drink is a smoked makers old fashion i love old fashions highly recommend both 30 000 foot sun sets are always awesome i took a couple just push a button i ve been traveling a lot for my employer that equates to spending way more hours on a plane than i ever would have imagined watching my fellow humans is entertaining and disheartening why is it that on a plane somewhere between 5 and 10 will press the call button rather than the light button is it really that confusing there are 3 seats 3 buttons and 3 lights usually at the ends of those are two more buttons and 2 more lights is it not logical that the set of 3 will turn a reading light on oh and the 3 buttons have little light bulbs with rays emitting out and the
