motivated to get it done by friday and start a second one before then as well i am doing this one in knit picks cot lin and have used 4 or 5 balls so far this is the nightshade colorway and i just comments wednesday july 25 2007 mother nature is so sweet she patiently waited until i finished indigo ripples before sending along the perfect weather to wear it in yarn reynolds soft linen 50 gr 94 yds 86m not quite 7 skeins 53 flax 47 acylic easy to care for color 0404 a golden color with just a hint of chartreuse needles addi turbo size 5 24 circular this was a pleasure to knit thanks in part to all who contribute to this blog your input urged me to knit this and your sugessted changes guided me down my own path of perfection so without further adieu the following are the modifications i made i think you ll recognize most of them needle size suggested needle size 6 gave me stitches that were not quite tight enough so i took it down a size the guage wasn t perfect but it was close enough the stockinette portion of this skirt is about 15 the length the pattern suggested was too racey for the polished boston ip firm that greatly contributes to the support of my fiber addiction the lace section is worked using only the first 40 rows which perfectly complimented the length of stockinette and allows the hem to just flirt with bottom of my knee also in the lace section as so many have suggested i used the sssk instead of sl 1 k2tog psso in the ruffle section i substituted knit rounds rows 1 and 11 instead of purl rounds finally i elected to do a traditional bind off as increasing and now just workin on the stockinette portion i m going to do that until it flirts with my knees like most i d like the skirt to be a little bit longer any suggestions on making the stockinette part flyyyyyyyyyyyy by i m taking a road trip from dc to sc with my old man so that ll be good but just wonderin what ya ll did my boyfriend and i have gotten hooked on lost too so we ruffle has taken forever i especially didn t enjoy the k2tog 6x yo k1 6x rows and i m not looking forward to the bind off either because i ve read that it takes forever as well what s the difference between a regular bind off and the bind off the pattern calls for i think i read where someone used a regular bind off and it worked fine what is the advantage of doing the other one posted by waste yarn through to try it on i thought i was okay on the size and did try it on as i went but it seems bigger around than what i would like but i can live with it i spread my increases out too far i think this cotton ease seems heavy now with all this length i think i might do another in the real denim ecru and be more careful in my increases love how those have turned out i will post a pic if which isn t a particularly good camera i had a terrible time getting a decent pic had to stand on my desk chair regardless the skirt is finished i love it and you ll have to take my word for it that it looks far better in real life than in this picture as i mentioned in my last post i had to buy another ball of yarn to complete the skirt i ran out during the bind off round the new ball different dye lot was darker but not too noticeable on the bind off i could definitely see the difference in the drawstring though however it came out of the washer and dryer matching the rest of the skirt yay even in full sunlight i can t tell the difference i have the full list of my mods and other impressions on my blog i ll definitely be making more skirts in the future unless this does that saggy bum indigo ripples skirt two nights ago and i m thrilled to have joined this group my blog is at this link i have a few questions for ya and hope you can help 1 is anyone using cotton fleece how s that coming 2 i m using size 6 needles and it s working fine but is it the end of the world if i dont have a 29 inch one i know eventually it might get to be a pain but is the skirt affected if you dont use 29 inch ones 3 on round 1 there s an increase round then you do seed stich for three rows then you do another increase round i do not understand how you get four increased stitches from this round t had this happen in years but i sigh ran out of yarn on the bind off round those of you who haven t gotten to it yet make sure to allocate more than a full ball of yarn for that ruffle if you re using rowan denim that thing is a yarn eating monster i m kicking myself for not knowing better i knew it would be close but i thought i d squeak by so there are two lys open today in my neck of the woods that carry rowan not sure if they stock denim much less my dye lot so i ll be hitting those up before starting to search on the web i initially bought the yarn from webs but they re out of stock wish me luck there s no way i m ripping back and removing rows in order to avoid buying more yarn like i said that ruffle is a monster eta one of my lys had rowan denim in stock in my color but not my dye lot i brought a scrap with me to compare the two in natural light and while it isn t an exact match it s very close it s just ever so slightly darker the tone is the same given that the yarn fades with washing and bleeds all over the place i bought a ball and i ll be keeping my fingers crossed that it won t be too obvious i think i may improvise a little clutch out of the leftovers for a friend evening tried it on after 4 rounds and found it was too big i ve ripped everything out and am going with the smaller size i am a bit scared of knitted skirts but after seeing so many cute indigo ripples out there i thought i d take a shot at it i m using rowan denim in the memphis color medium blue my goal is to have it done by july 17th we ve leaving for lake placid ny on the 18th so i can do ironman usa on the 22nd lake placid seems like such a cute little town that i thought i needed a cute skirt to walk around in hopefully being a part of this kal will help me meet that deadline have a modelled shot my skinny friend and i are nowhere near the same size here s a close up of the lace colour is more accurate in the first picture and here are the stats yarn lana knits allhemp3 fingering weight 5 skeins in deep ocean that s only 30 cdn for yarn needles no name 2 75mm circs for the stockinette portion and 3 0mm addi lace circs for lace section mods sssk mirrored decrease m1l increase in rnd 25 modified the increase rate to accomodate the difference in row gauge but kept the number of sts increased identical to the pattern knit the largest size in the pattern for a 28 waist finished size stockinette portion is 13 long and overall length is 21 crocheted chain using 4 strands instead of i cord for the waist tie things i learned you can t do i cord using a non stretchy yarn you must wash and block hemp to get the right gauge if you re using hemp for lace use the pointy est needles if i make this again i would use a longer circ i love the hemp it can be tricky to work with but the end result is breathtaking the drape is incredible and the resulting fabric is incredibly soft plus it s machine wash dry i look forward to seeing more finished skirts start knitting this today i m using rowan denim in nashville that dark dark blue and us 5 needles like everyone else i was wowed by eunny s finished skirt i decided to try my hand at modifying the fit of the skirt i won t get into the exact way i m going about it but the end result i hope is that instead of hitting at my waist the top of the skirt will sit a couple inches lower low waist or high hip i really can t stand having anything tight around my stomach no pics yet but i ve got about 3 5 4 inches done one ball of denim and tons of blue dye on my hands posted by amanda at 6 09 2007 11 10
