revolutionary as they exercise their strengths and open up the geo belt the moon mars and beyond these space elevators are permanent transportation infrastructures consisting of a tether connecting the earth s surface to a counterweight apex anchor in space they will provide a high throughput method of moving cargo into space at low operating cost as well as the launching of ships into interplanetary space without rocket fuel this website should aid anyone interested in the modern day space elevators as it has the body of knowledge either on the site or referenced within the to space defines modern day space elevators michael schaeffer coined the term in 2019 explaining how they raise cargo to geo and beyond without polluting our atmosphere or leaving debris along the path a excellent recent song explained it as a future built with care and grace a greener path a green road to space listen here the manufacture of tether quality material for a space elevator still needs more development but the trajectory to a high quality industrial product is clear it is not unreasonable to think that as this graphene process continues apace space elevator tether production could begin in 5 to 10 years using graphene as its material the right stuff spaceflight june 2023 see also our web page on space elevator tether materials the crux of the matter the combination of new potential tether materials plus new detailed engineering designs increase the prospects that a space elevator can be brought out of the realm of the theoretical and into the realm of practical engineering national space society roadmap to space settlement 4th edition 2025 our vision space elevators are the green road to space while they enable humanity s most important missions by moving massive tonnage to geo and beyond they accomplish this safely routinely inexpensively and daily they are environmentally neutral space elevator what it is and will do space elevator 101 20 min video frequently asked questions which materials what is a space elevator what is its history and more frequently asked questions over 700 references and citations covering the full spectrum of space elevators references and citations galactic harbours will unify transportation and enterprise the galactic harbour will be the volume encompassing the earth port and stretching up in a series of cylinders to include two tethers and the region just beyond the apex anchors larger image in summary customer product payloads will enter the galactic harbour at the earth port and exit at some point along the tether along the way there will be tremendous enterprise development such as easy assembly at geo refueling operational satellites and construction among other things and release from the apex anchor for trips to interplanetary destinations social media next event note from the isec chief architect elevate 2026 as humanity stands on the cusp of this new era these ribbons from oceans to space offer the promise of making space accessible to all fostering global cooperation positioning humanity to address earth s challenges and inspiring a sustainable future for our planet modern day space elevators are on the brink of transforming our relationship with space offering an eco friendly cost effective routine safe and efficient logistics methodology to transport large cargoes into space they have the potential to unlock a plethora of solutions to earth s most pressing challenges such as harvesting solar power from space climate monitoring lunar and martian settlement global communication networks etc here are some of the isec chief architect s projections conclusions realizations insights space elevators will position humanity to address earth s challenges from a new vantage point this daily gateway as a permanent transportation infrastructure to geo and beyond will provide unparalleled opportunities in space exploration resource utilization and satellite assembly starting in the late 2030s space elevator infrastructures will deliver satellites and other payloads to geo the moon and mars at an initial rate of 30 000 tonnes every year this surpasses the total launched between 1957 and 2022 a seismic shift indeed by harnessing electricity for lift each space elevator promises a green road to space with initial daily deliveries of up to 14 tonnes to geostationary orbit geo and beyond dramatically reducing the environmental impact as compared to rocket launches space elevator designs have an unmatched 70 delivery efficiency of pad mass to geo as compared to only 2 for rockets peter swan ph d fbis faiaa miaa ad astra on filo newsletter block this newsletter signup form needs a storage option edit the block and enter a storage location via the
