diary of a broke college student diary of a broke college student wednesday april 18 2012 spring this month i was able to plan a birthday party and bachelorette party it was a lot of fun and i can t wait to plan more birthday parties and bachelorette parties for my friend shelby s 21st birthday i treated her to dinner at buffalo wild wings and then i surprised her w this birthday cake that i made my friend vanessa is getting married this summer so before she left for the semester i through her a surprise bachelorette party the theme was breakfast at tiffany s vanessa s roommate drew this picture for the bachelorette party it s amazing after she drew the picture i was thinking we should play pin the cigarette on audrey but instead we quizzed vanessa on how well she knows her fiance for posted by jane at 5 02 pm 0 comments monday january 9 2012 out with the old in w the new 2011 was such a difficult year but i got through it anxiety and all a lot has changed especially my attitude last year i took a cosmetologist course and i have to say that was one of the most hardest things to get through but i am so thankful to have the support of my family and friends who encouraged me to finish and see it through and i am truly thankful that i did finish after i finished beauty school i still felt like i had to finish college so here i am back in rexburg id when i first got to idaho i discovered that the girl who sold me the apartment didn t mention that the apartment wasn t furnished so i walked into a empty room and was a bit shocked but then i d figure i could find a cheap bed somewhere around town what made it really difficult was finding out i would not get any financial aid or loans to pay for school but i have great church members who are helping me and i am truly blessed for their generosity for three days i had been sleeping on a air mattress and i went to a church activity w mary romney s cousin carrie i told her about my circumstances and one of the girls in her ward was kind enough to offer me a bed i am so thankful for generous people who are alway willing to lend a helping hand i want to especially thank my mom sister margo blair andrea slade and oliver combs mary romney carrie holly sara cabrera andi and sara potter for helping me w this semester i am thankful the lord has blessed me w great people like you in my life i love you all things to be thankful for a beautiful bed to sleep in the cute slippers my mother bought me the amazing barnes nobles gift cards my good friend sara potter sends me for christmas birthdays gifts they always come in handy when i start school i finally was able to get a lap desk because i m one of those people who refuses to do my homework on a real desk green and purple moleskine notebooks that i love to get at b n a crayola dry erase board w erasable crayons bookmarker pens that come in a cd case recycled newspaper pens which say newspaper pencil in chinese new york city 2012 calender and last but not least my hello kitty sketch book i don t care if i am 22 years old i will always love hello kitty posted by jane at 8 26 pm 0 comments sunday august 16 2009 home sweet home i am back in the city and it feels great i don t know every time i go away i seem to always appreciate living in the city a little bit more this last semester was so hard and it really challenged me emotionally but i do feel like it changed me for the better and i learned so much from people who made me feel like i was worth nothing and thats one good thing that came out if that situation well when i got back to the city my friend mary who was my young woman s teacher piano teacher friend told me she was moving i was sad but i was also very excited for her and her family i m glad that i had the opportunity to get to know her before she left the city right now i m trying to register for classes and i m also looking forward to switching my major from psychology to social work its interesting to me that people keep trying to warn me to not get into the social work field because i will not be making a ridiculous amount of money so when ever i reply with then what should i do they bring up nursing now you see the reason i chose social work is because i like to help people especially people struggling with emotional issues i m definitely sure that s the field i want to go into now why would i want to be a nurse or a doctor or a lawyer when i have absolutely no interest in those fields i have to pay for college and i really do not want to waste my money on something that i have no interest in i know the kind of student i am if i have no particular interest in something i won t put any effort into my work thats why i m trying my best to choose a major that brings me some sort of enjoyment and that roommates i still have not made any new friends who i can actually hang out with on a 1 on 1 basis and i m just about ready to rap up this semester because i m basically through now i am truly thankful for all the blessings god has given me i know he has blessed me abundantly this year i am just having a hard time tolerating and having patience for those i can t stand it s just so much easier for me to deal with annoying people if i don t live with them out of sight out of mind but when you have one living so close to you and when you have no where else to escape for peace its hard not to get frustrated i can t help but think this is all just a test for me to learn how to deal with opposition i ll keep trying posted by jane at 3 24 pm 1 comments thursday may 21 2009 sorrow in my soul so basically i don t feel good at all i have this strange feeling in the pit of my stomach and i can t get rid of it i tried to sit down in my room and do my homework but i was so irritable and jittery that i could not finish anything i guess all this is coming from stress my mom recently lost her job so i decided to get a job to save money for this semester and for the fall semester i do early morning custodial work where i clean the library from 4 00am 7 00am for one i am not a morning person and i have one early class this semester and now its becoming harder for me to wake up to go my classes and i can t quit because i need the money i talked to my finical aid officer and she told me to take out a loan which i can only take out a small amount now which doesn t cover my entire tuition and i never get any finical aid so i am going to try to apply for grants hopefully i get one that will help me pay for my tuition other than that i still feel cruddy my roommates made me feel awful about myself so i decided to leave and move in with one of my friends from nyc its fun but for some reason i still feel out of place i don t have someone i can personally talk to that would actually care enough to help me plus i m terrified that i will not be able to pull up my gpa i m doing a lot better this semester i got an 84 on my first social work exam that boost my self esteem a
