where w e are staying the really cool thing about this trip is that i don t know one person nope not a single one and i am really pumped about that i will actually meet them all tomorrow once i jump no comments my love for photography if you know me well then you know i love photography not really sure when i first picked up a camera but i know by the time i reached high school i was already spending hundreds of dollars on developing film my grandparents can attest to that i would often times ask for help on purchasing my rolls of film at the local eckerds down the street from their house here is one of my first pictures that i really liked these are orchards from my grandmother s memorial mom and i went back the next day to grab a few flowers so we could preserve them i snapped this while mom was holding them my grandmother came from a family of 14 children she was number 7 to be born and number 7 to go be with jesus to represent that the brothers sisters had 7 white orchards for the ones who are no longer with us and 7 pink ones for those who are still going strong i would have to say that my nana was the best one out of all 14 of those children mary virgina griffin hammock nana was so special to me she always supported by photography probably because she planted most of the flowers i would practice with this is in scotsdale arizona i went there for a convention for work we served barb b q of course during my cheerleading days in high school i loved taking pictures at the football games i always tried to get the action shots but they never turned out too great i was just a novice and still am i did get one of my pictures published in a photography book i never actually saw it however i am sure it was one of those 500 page photography books that has any and every photo in it i was proud of myself to say the least though thats all that matters i eventually started getting more passionate about photography and started snapping shots with my grandfathers old c anon camera it s really heavy and it doesn t have automatic focus it s the real deal it captured some of the best shots he was such a trooper for letting me take off with it everywhere i went i loved it so i took really good care of it it definitely set me on the track of falling more in love with the art of finding the perfect picture through the lens of a camera the christmas of my sophmore year of high school mom gave me my very own canon camera it s the only thing i wanted that year and of course it was the last thing i opened almost thinking i wasn t going to get it mom was so sneaky i think i took 5 rolls of film that day hah that was back when there was no digital photography yeah remember that then for my hs graduation i got my macro lens wahooo now that is where it s at i remember taking long walks through the woods or finding waterfalls and rivers to snap pictures but flowers were usually my number one target since the digital world has evolved i haven t had the pocket of cash to spend on the supa dupa camera i want i am learning patience and saving at the same time it s a hard lesson to learn so in the meantime i am borrowing my dads canon rebel x that is digital i took the picture above in my living room one night just playing around i love the photo journalism type of photgraphy so i am trying to learn that style as well as capturing the things i love in my pictures here is a bible verse i snapped this is actually billy s favorite one ephesians 5 1 my pictures i am most proud of are actually developed not digital i was a back up photographer for a few weddings that was fun i really don t like the pressure of being front and center when i take pictures thats probably why i have never made it a focused hobby photography is a refuge for me a posted by jenn at 10 51 am no comments tuesday february 12 2008 caymans in december how often do you get a great place to stay for only the cost of your plane ticket probably only a few times in life so five of us took up the offer and headed to the cayman islands during the first week in december we left cold rainy weather in the atl and headed to the carribean weather where it was 95 degrees and not a drop of rain in site the sunsets everyday were amazing we sat on the beach with a book in one hand a glass in the other and sat in awe over the magnificent sunsets and gorgeous water simply breath taking we had such a great time from waking up late everyday reading books on the beach snorkeling in the turquoise water watching movies laughing till our bellies hurt driving on the left side of the road long walks on the beach great conversations eating at beach side restaurants dancing to live music taking videos of each other and picking up on cara s slang talk cuuuuuute halu this was our spot on the beach everyday snorkeling was probably one of my favorite parts however i really didn t snorkel i laid on the float and put my head in the water what that doesn t count the guys did it the right way true snorkel sters i just made that up i remember being in the water with cara on our floats one afternoon and looking out into the sea dark blue and turquoise water for as long as you could see just amazed i felt so small on that little raft in that large body of water sitting in the water so small i pondered how it could be that god has perfectly placed me exactly where i am in that moment that he cares deeply about us and wants to be intertwined into the smallest details of who we are and the details of our lives that i can have open communication with the one who fearfully and wonderfully made me humbled by it all a group shot at the reef great outdoor patio with a live band who played christmas music for us to dance to ernie was lucky enough to have all the ladies swing dance with him while we tried are hardest to pull will onto the dance floor after a few songs he finally got on the floor with his lady this trip was amazing a time where i fully enjoyed and rested in jesus while gaining new revelation in my heart about his divine majesty and i was able to worship him while standing in the presence of his beautiful scenary and now the sunsets need i say more posted by jenn at 7 25 am 1 comment monday february 4 2008 christmas in new york city it s cold it s christmas the air smells of cinnamon and sweet apple cider where else would you rather be than the beautiful city of new york all lit up for the holidays here is a small glimpse of me and dad s trip together to the great big city this is us in times square after watching 20 people walk by we finally found someone willing to snap this picture for us a single man probably in his mid thirties we got into town on a wednesday just in time for lunch we got settled in our hotel room at the flatotel and headed out to fill up our bellies afterall we had been up since 5 am our concierge sent us to frank sinatra s family restaurant where his grandmother s recipe for meatballs is still being passed on we walked in to find tons of pictures of frank with famous people and his family hanging all over the walls the restaurant was old in nature with hard wood floors worn red leather seats and old metal ceiling tiles it seemed to take you back to the days of frank the meal was complete with frank s grandmother s famous meatballs white table clothes warm italian bread and of course frank s very own voice in the background a great first experience in nyc we then headed out to see the fun local attractions just to name a few toys r us times square and m m world here is a picture at the toys r us they have a ferris wheel right in the middle of the store not to mention life size lego creations and a life size barbie house you can actually walk through the store is over 4 levels high neat stuff that night we decided to keep it low key so we found a local pizza joint suggested by the police officers on the streets bella vita brick pizza from here i can t keep all the days straight so i will just share with you the things we did we visted the lower part of manhatten where most the shoppers go that wasn t me we went through soho little italy and china town we stopped to eat at the famous pizza place called lombardi s in little italy i read about it in the delta magazine when i was on a flight a few months prior to our trip so i stuck the article in my backpack knowing i would have to make a stop when i was there china town is just like well china town you really feel like you are in china it was fun walking all the streets seeing meat hung out in the open air and side walk markets full of vegetables flowers and fruits one of the best parts for me was the metro i loved it it was so authentic with the old silver trains and ticket sub stations the metro stations were just how you would imagine them dirty cold loud and any type of person you could possibly imagine i stood on the train looking around me a single mother a businessman a young college student a homeless man in his late years and a grandmother rocking her grandchild to sleep i just wonder what is their life story how is it that we are all sitting on the same train during the same time how would our lives connect or overlap if we could share our stories with one another it s interesting isn t it during one of our train station experiences there was an old black man playing the violin bless his heart he was so sweet right when our eyes met i knew i was in for it he started playing for me and the crowd of people start watching next thing i know he pulls the violin off his shoulder and hands it to me of course i refuse but after much encouragement from dad and the crowd i take the violin with a smile and tried to amuse the crowd during our 5 minutes of waiting for the next train to madison square garden playing the violin has interest me in the past well i finally got to play in the great city of new york and in the train station of all places new york isn t complete without broadways right dad s christmas gift to me was tickets to see the musical hair spray great show lots of dancing and humor dad especially liked the character for tracy turnblad s mom he was on cheers several years ago my christmas present to dad was tickets to see how the grinch stole christmas the grinch character was just outstanding i think this was dad s favorite show all the costumes were unbelieveable this is a picture of us at st thomas theatre another must do in the great city of new york buy a huge piece of new york cheesecake let me tell ya they don t mess around with their cheescake one afternoon we decided to rest before one of our shows so i go down to one of the new york deli s to grab a ham sandwich and piece of cheesecake for us well 11 later for one slice of cake i think ten people could have eaten off of that thing but man it was delicious almost too rich but if you know me well enough the sweeter the better yum i could lick my lips just thinking about it while we re on the subject of food hey what s a conversation worth if no food is involved i m kidding we ate at some really great places here is one of our lunch items from a neat little place right down the street from our hotel forgive me i am forgetting the name it starts with a m anywoo the restaurant was round almost like a we were all sitting under a large umbrella and the sides were closed in the menu had a large variety but dad and i went for the usual hamburger well done that s a jenn and dad thing i think everytime we are together we get one of two things a hamburger or b bloomin onion oh yeah so this was right up our alley and don t worry we gobbled it all up this was our trip to central park cold and rainy radio city one of the coolest places lines of people to see the infamous radio city rockettes we didn t get a chance to see the show we decided to see cirque de soliel instead which was great rockfeller center christmas tree and ice skating rink it was just beautiful it was packed with people all rushing to get their picture taken with the great big tree behind them photographers promising the best shots possible and people paying 35 a picture in a nifty difty frame dad and i stuck with the old fashioned way flash photography of your own there was a large garden full of angels all lit up so beautiful it was everything you would picture for a christmas in new york one of the streets was lined with huge nutcrackers they were five times my size all the trees were wrapped in lights every limb we walked over to saks fifth avenue windows where they had each window set up as a different christmas scene and they had snowkflakes all over the building some of the windows were filled with snowmen santa claus elves etc and each window had it s own tune to narrate the story then i came across a fun group of clowns let s be honest here clowns freak me out a little bit but these guys were awesome the last day we ate at one of my favorite restaurants in new york city rue 57 mom gave me a trip to nyc for my 18th birthday and we discovered rue 57 so of course i had to eat there again and also introduce dad to such a fine establishment i got a cheesburger surprise ha and dad got homemade soup here is our last picture together before we closed out an amazing trip i am so thankful for this special time with my sweet father he has been such a blessing over the past few years and i couldn t imagine life without him dad i will always hold these fun memories in my heart especially all the times we cracked up laughing at ourselves while we made all our videos on the streets of new york i truly appreciate your child like attitude and how you re always taking risks to have the most fun i am forever grateful for you and you mean the world
