j rae designs wednesday june 12 2013 portfolio of works i have loved to create just about anything from mud pies to paintings since i was a small child the thing i love most about art is that there are so many ways to express yourself i have a hard time choosing just one i find this to be one of the great things about being an art teacher not to mention that there are millions of different art ideas and each student expresses that idea in their own way it is so much fun to see what inventive minds come up with when given a task here are some of the pieces i have done over the last few years some of my earlier works are full of vibrant colors that i feel when i think of these places or animals sort of bring out the true mood of the painting if you will my expression of what these animals and places feel like to me i have always had a love for color but more recently i have been drawn to the process of applying color to the canvas i love to observe what happens as i apply a transparent yellow over a deep blue or a vibrant orange over a muted purple these abstract pieces push me to new limits when is a piece done what sort of expression or mood am i trying to pull from the movements and the colors that i carefully and thoughtfully scrap onto the surface i am always paying close attention to how the drier marks play against the bolder ones or how the transparent paint plays with the opaque colors becoming an observer of the way the paint pushes itself onto the canvas the processes is fascinating paintings drawing and painting both of these paintings were inspired by the images of giorgia o keefe the top one created with acrylic paint and the bottom with oil paint watercolor landscape van gogh s night cafe van gogh s night cafe with a contemporary twist mixed media drawing with pencil and sharpie abstract 1 and 2 point perspective pencil drawing sill life drawings with pencil i did this project with my students we rolled up magazine and glue them edge to edge to create a bowl abstract composition made with sharpie using texture and line pencil drawing of my husband fishing 3d collage a made of our wedding to commemorate all the details of the day painting inspired by a quilt fiber arts these are all quilts and bags that i have created on my own they are not from a pattern most of these were commissioned based on a room or desired colors posted by mrs gamble at 8 56 pm 1 comment home subscribe to posts atom mhs http www chawanakee k12 ca us minarets 20hs pinterest find ideas here art contests to consider creative outlook magazine cover contest space foundation art contest celebrating art congressional art competition doodle 4 google blogs to visit art21 wooster street art photocritic epic edits the photo argus digital photography school digital blog jay bird quilts pink pincushion about me view my complete profile blog archive 2013 1 june 1 portfolio of works followers simple theme powered by blogger
