months already but i didn t want to rush her today seemed right we spent some time talking about all the fun she has had in her baby room thanked the items for being so useful and then moved them to the future nursery for her baby brother or sister to use in due course we then moved a big girl bed into her room and made a few changes to décor she is delighted and completely embraced the change children really are little miracles and a blessing which totally enriches ones life posted by mama feline at friday july 19 2013 no comments thursday july 11 2013 our family groweth we are thrilled to announce that our little family is growing again although due 1 january 2014 we are quite sure baby garratt will arrive this december 2013 and our family will become papa mama toddler 5 cats and baba we have another scan in 2 weeks time and are hoping to learn whether baby is a girl or boy i m no good at secrets and buying white green and yellow posted by mama feline at thursday july 11 2013 no comments friday march 22 2013 the calm after the storm following on from today s earlier post my baby girl awoke 2 hours after the awful bathroom tantrum completely revived and back to her happy self i m happy to report the red marks under her arms were completely gone too she was being just darling again and i gave her hugs and lots of kisses on her soft little cheeks all was right with mommy daughter again it is just so confusing how my angel child can have these outbursts at times and i can seldom put my finger on what triggers it i have been friends with a guy for 23 years and he had invited becca and i to lunch today so off we went at midday and had a stunning time we sat outside so that becca could run and play freely she collected berries and pushed them back to our table in her dolls pram sat on her blanket and played with her toys ate her lunch made specially for her by chef like a very good girl sat on my lap while we had coffee and was just all in all an absolute treasure then this evening when daddy arrived home we went and visited her nana where she had a glorious time playing with table clothes and blocks and a pen shaped like a fish and she and daddy and nana played a bit of piano too she is now bathed fed and sleeping soundly shew so very pleased that what started out as an awful morning progressed into a very happy day for my girl perhaps i am not the worst mommy in the world perhaps i am just learning as i go when my little girl sits herself in my lap like she did this evening i know all is ok and we are ok posted by mama feline at friday march 22 2013 no comments tantrums i m sitting in my lounge feeling like the worst mother ever in the history of mankind right now my little girl almost 15 months old now just had the worst tantrum yet and where did this take place in the bath her hair full of shampoo her body very slippery with aqueous cream soap which meant i could not simply abort the whole bath thing as i had to rinse her first which just blew the whole thing into an even worse rampage she wanted to get out just all of a sudden and despite thinking should i just take her out as is and let her lie in her cot full of soap shampoo and soaking wet while she gets over this i persisted and rinsed her off and only then took her out of the bath it was a nightmare i had to grab tightly under her arms to stop her from thrashing and falling out onto the very hard and slippery tiled bathroom floor once i had her safely out the bath and was trying to wrap her safely in a towel i immediately saw red marks under her arms where i had held her so tightly i tried to calm the whole situation down and soothe her but she lashed out and hit me over and over in my face she looked to me almost possessed i had to hold tightly to her little wrist to stop her hitting she just wouldn t stop so i put her down on the floor away from me as i m sure holding their wrist tight like that can cause pain and bruising surely oh boy that was almost worse then she threw her head down onto the floor and was screaming so much she started going purple all over and looked as though she was temporarily not breathing i tried to just touch her back and stroke her but she thrashed more i blew in her face to make her catch her breath that helped slightly as soon as i could see a gap i picked her up and went down to her bedroom thinking if i can just get her to the safety of carpet and a pillow at least she wont hurt herself but the thrashing and screaming continued i decided let me just push through and get her nappy on and dress her and then i can try to hold her and give her bottle and just calm the whole thing down it took ages and some shouting on my part out of sheer frustration and even fear she just wouldn t wouldn t wouldn t calm down at all eventually i managed to get her onto my lap on the couch in her bedroom and she finally took her bottle and that calmed her i held her after she had finished feeding but i could sense she was very very very distraught still she let me put her into her cot and she rolled over to the side like she does when tired so i covered her and left the room she has not made a sound since i presume she has fallen asleep i m devastated i feel like i have just abused my child what makes these little people suddenly so angry and out of control i m wondering what i could have done differently perhaps i must always have a huge towel in the bathroom ready for if this happens again and just take her out and put her on that and step back until she calms even if she is covered in soap the tricky part is getting them out the bath when they so slippery and not hurting their little under arms gosh no man i just feel horrible horrible horrible posted by mama feline at friday march 22 2013 no comments thursday february 14 2013 success at clamber club at last a successful fun and happy clamber club class with becca yesterday was our 4th class and it seems becca is now adjusting to what the class entails and represents while she did not do every activity she did do a whole lot more than usual waiting her turn in many instances following instructions and really enjoying herself also when she wasnt fully participating in a section she was at least not being out of hand and was just happily sitting and watching next to me this is a huge achievement and i am very pleased she has also formed a really cute little bond with two of the other toddlers they are also two of the five in the class who are walking the other seven toddlers are not yet walking and so they seem to interact differently to the ones who are walking i suppose for obvious reasons becca juno and luca always seem to converege at the same activities and walk run nicely together juno and luca are 6 weeks older than becca but the three are the same height and sort of milestone region and so they seem to have found a really cool groove whereas they seem a bit rough when placed with the other toddlers to be fair a toddler who is walking and running vs a toddler who is sitting crawling is always going to appear more rough sometimes becca juno and luca will run along and trip on a mat or toy and fall sort of onto a sitting toddler and it automatically appears that they are out of hand then but in fact they are just innocently exploring and those who are not yet walking cant get up and hold their own just yet its a tricky age the class accommodates 12 15 month olds by the end of term they will then be 15 18 month olds now within this age band there are still vast differences in development becca happens to be one of the younger ones who is doing more physically than say for example one of the 15 16 month olds its not to necessarily say that becca is advanced or that they are slower its just still all within that band and so i suspect once we all move to the class where they are for example 2 2 5 years they will then pretty much all be doing the same thing all will be walking and running and talking and so such differences that we see in the current age of the class will fall away and interaction between the toddlers will widen on the talking front becca is actually not really talking at all yet she makes a lot of sounds and talks baby all day but actual words i cant really say she says much other than mama and daydo daddy some of the other toddlers are saying a few actual words like juice and dummy and come and various other little words its fascinating to see how each little person is so different one little boy only sits he doesnt crawl even but he is virtually saying sentences and uses a plastic cup really really well for now myself and juno and lucas moms seem to sit together in a corner section and stick a little to ourselves in some respects as our 3 dont seem to hurt or injure or frighten each other we are talking about arranging a private play date for the 3 of them too the mommy of the twins is so divine too her little girl seems she is going to walk soon and the little boy not quite yet but the mom is so relaxed and doesnt mind a bit when becca and the other two i have mentioned walk over to say hi and play near her twins all in all it is amazing to see how each little person is changing and developing week by week i think in some instances we see these changes in each others children more quickly than we do in our own children seeing each other weekly the changes are more obvious than with our own who we see every day sometimes i look at becca and suddenly actually see her i see she is now tall she is growing strong she is a little person all of her own my baby is now most certainly a toddler posted by mama feline at thursday february 14 2013 no comments thursday january 31 2013 amazing evening ok so after yesterdays blog where i may have sounded semi suicidal i am much happier today my mom came round yesterday afternoon to give us time to get ready for our anniversary dinner and she and i chatted a little she reminded me that becca is already showing signs of a very strong will and that she is amazingly independent in some respects really perhaps clamber club is just not going to be the right little group for becca and i shouldn t feel so bad after trying just one thing to be fair becca is one of only three in the group of twelve who are walking so quite frankly nine of the amazingly behaved toddlers cant get up and walk off becca s has been doing many of the activities that this group offers for months already with me at home so it isn t anything new and amazing to her like it is to the others and she may be bored and while i may battle in life a bit with becca and structure i can at least say that she is amazing at keeping herself entertained the other toddlers all seem to like and need to be told what to do how and when and their mommies are finding it easy going in class but when we chat over tea afterwards i was literally the only mommy who said becca is great at keeping herself entertained and as long as she can see me she plays on her own and does her own thing i don t have to actually play with her at all or show her how to play whereas the other moms do have to do that so i guess it is give and take our children will thrive in some areas and battle in others one thing is for damn sure becca ain t a sheep and she ain t stoopid i guess i should be grateful i had also not eaten yesterday when i blogged which always makes things seems worse than they really are i also really must nip this nonsense with our domestic worker in the bud and on a really positive note my husband spoilt me silly last night with an amazing dinner awesome bottle of wine a gorgeous necklace and just 3 hours of uninterrupted adult conversation just us it was long overdue and incredibly welcome we started remembering why becca exists at all because of us and that we love each other and we need to remind ourselves of this often going forward its important last
