leave a comment the trees stood reverently the river flowed turquoise september 3 2012 the forest was ancient and surprisingly not quiet the river that commanded our attention was given her due her turquoise eyes glistening with beauty no the forest stood watch while telling us stories of fairies woodland creatures that spoke and mysteries that no human had could understand we sat and listened quietly reverently kathleen felmey under a canopy of trees a grasshopper greeted us with the clicks of his wings while looking for a nice place to sun himself his cheery outlook set the mood as russell and i inhaled the mountain air k felmey we found an interesting viewpoint it is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men s hearts as for that subtle something that quality of air that emanation from old trees that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit robert louis stevenson i kept my ears open and my eyes sharp eager to see any signs of woodland fairy activities you know there are always some fairies that like to play sport with the tourists and will leave little hints they have been there k felmey a small tree growing inside a dead tree trunk wherever they go and whatever happens to them on the way in that enchanted place on the top of the forest a little boy and his bear will always be playing winnie the pooh quote if it had not been for the childlike desire in me to continue to listen to the trees stories the warm breezes between their branches would have lulled me to sleep k felmey i listened to their stories life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit khalil gibran sitting on a log with my love never say there is nothing beautiful in the world anymore there is always something to make you wonder in the shape of a tree the trembling of a leaf albert schweitzer it was a meal of love my husband lovingly packed his stove macaroni and cheese and a can of soup we dined under a canopy of trees the honey rays of the sun filtered through their branches k felmey the river held our attention for a long time the current swirled past the rocks and headed toward the sun we could see the fish jumping in the crystal blue turquoise pools where the waters were deceptively tranquil k felmey russell retrieved a fishing line with a bobber but left the glistening penny on the rock under the water where some soul had made their wish k felmey looking downstream on the clackamas river the most fun was when we competed with throwing rocks across the river russell hit the trees on the highest point on the rock cliff while i was content with hitting the rock cliff he showed me how to throw like him we threw rocks at this rock cliff for fun headed down the highway we spent time stopping for places to photograph and explore i wanted to remember that i had been here at the top of the forest i always feel a little sad when i have to leave a place it s especially sad when the memories i ve made are treasures of my heart k felmey we had spent the day unlike any other day with no real plans to find anything except for ourselves again eventually we headed towards home the sun beginning to set as we found old familiar views mt hood it was a day to remember one to add to our book of memories that was full of stories of our family russell and i told the stories of times camping and fishing with our children when they were young and so were we now here we were beginning new adventures just the two of us kathleen felmey he led the way in under the huge branches of the trees old beyond guessing they seemed great trailing beards of lichen hung from them blowing and swaying in the breeze out of the shadows the hobbits peeped gazing back down the slope little furtive figures that in the dim light looked
