kaz quest kaz quest sunday august 3 2008 6th month anniversary i can t believe sasha and luda have been here 6 months here is the latest news sasha finished kindergarten and will be allowed to enter 1st grade on aug 25th he and luda have enjoyed learning to swim with a body float and participated in several 4h classes one of the classes was on horses and they got to ride one the library has had a reading program with a reward for reading 80 books mama has definitely put in her reading time the kids got to go to a party at the library and had a blast they have their own cards now and even though they can t read yet they are getting into picking out books luda will attend preschool in september rather than starting kindergarten hopefully this extra year will prepare her focusing on school the 4th of july was a blast and we got to celebrate it twice once in bethel nc and again in greeneville tn during our family reunion the kids got to see a ton of fireworks and play with so many kids at the reunion they met a bunch of relatives for the first time and just really soaked up all the attention sasha had a few small birthday celebrations he turned 7 on july 2nd while luda had one big blowout on her birthday may 4th she turned 5 their surprise for me was sasha cutting luda s hair minutes before folks starting showing up i was in shock the rest of the day they were both very pleased with the results but his scissors are gone jenny at the hair salon was able to turn it into a cute pixie cut she looks really different but cute both ways oh luda loves having her nails grandma i m going home with grandpa ha ha ha luda posing with our latest art work uncle doug and sasha somewhere back there luda and her dogs she has food yep new trick how sweet is that this month has been really good sasha is now attending kindergarten full time and luda is attending day care 3 days a week for about 7 hours each day they seem to be doing really well having the interaction with other kids and with teachers varian and i have really stepped up learning things like abc s and counting to 30 colors and art work and music and dance we love little einsteins go diego go and dora the question most people ask is how is their english coming it is coming along much better than my russian did when i was preparing to go to kazakhstan luda is now saying no instead of nyet everytime and she says the prettiest thank you sasha still says most things in russian first and then says it again in english he is working hard on leaning the alphabet and how to spell and sound things out his teacher and classmates are really great they all are helping sasha a lot and he is doing whatever he can to help them they got their new furniture this month and sasha was particulary pleased he is very neat and likes to have places to put everything he also likes to rearrange all of our stuff luda on the other hand likes her furniture but it doesn t seem to matter as much to her she is a bit messy and would just as soon have her wardrobe handy on the floor we got each of them a dress outfit this weekend and hope to have a family picture made soon wendy what is the name of your and grandma ginny ain t that sweet that s just scary he needed a little help but made it across over and over double sliding the boone park is great heck of a day she can really zoom down those slides in grandma and grandpa s park grandma giving luda a present grandma pushing luda grandpa pushing sasha doncha love that outfit grandma catching luda want some nuts posted by dawn at 12 14 am no comments monday february 11 2008 the latest it has been an interesting 3 weeks here are some of the highlights the trips to the park have been great the kids are fearless going down slides head first and flying into the mulch they play well with other kids there despite the fact they can t understand what the other is saying and the exercise helps so much with sleep we have been locked out of every room in the house it all began with the sunroom and moved quickly to the garage the bedroom the bathroom they now have no door knobs on their rooms nor their bathroom and the garage door now locks from the other side so the kids are locked into the downstairs bedtime seems to be an issue most nights the kids both want to stay up late and it doesn t matter if the tv is on or off they just want to be up however one night they did go to bed willingly and i was actually pulled into my room and told albeit in russian to go to bed while miss luda then trotted off to her room to go to sleep everything is either in different spot or hidden by us or the kids and i can t find anything they are really good in the car in restaurants and stores they love shopping for clothes and help pick out what they like we have had an issue with the language barrier we all get frustrated at not being able to understand eachother but we really try to use what little russian we know combined with pictures or sign language to try to bridge that gap we get the basic stuff but i wish i knew what our little girl is singing in the car or what sasha is saying when he goes on a long dialogue about something he is interested in they both have physicals with the pediatrician later this month and then sasha goes to school i am really excited about his school and luda will soon be attending day care for the social interaction and special guidance that miss lorie can give i m extra excited about this both grandparents have enjoyed spending time with the kids as have many friends i hope sasha and luda feel how loved they are oh they love having lavender lotion put on their hands being picked up they can say this in english now and spun in all directions carrying the poodle around he ll be on doggy valium soon and watching little einsteins mama loves the smell of their hair after a bath and the kisses that come just when she least expects them posted by dawn at 11 46 pm 2 comments sunday january 27 2008 home sweet home we made it into charlotte friday afternoon and were greeted by 3 beautiful smiling faces lynn helen and owen came to pick us up and what a nice treat to get to ride in their new sienna we promptly headed to the mcd s in gastonia where they have a play area and let the kids loose they had sooooo much fun and got to work off all that pent up energy from being on the plane sasha s little head was soaking wet i highly recommend scheduling a flight home that allows parents to come into their own time zone at an early enough time to be able to do something like that the kids slept great that first night and are really adapting well to the new zone both kids are not eating as much as while at the hotel or even on the airplane i suppose their systems are still adjusting sasha is so inquisitive and has checked out every crevice in the house i think he gave helen and lynn individual tours of the house when they came to visit saturday he was too busy with the tours to really play with ben or owen but maybe next time luda was happy to be ben s center of attention and he really scored major points with the game of chase matt came over a bit later and scored double points for bringing sasha a spider man action figure set complete with bad guys and gadgets and luda a barbie doll princess rapunzel with some serious long hair you should have seen sasha s little eyes get the size of saucers he and matt had a great time after dinner playing with the figures and the magnetix set making various animals and vehicles we are planning for tomorrow a trip to the park with ben and owen after grandma and grandpa come for a visit dad s first time meeting them it should be another fun filled day posted by dawn at 5 28 am 6 comments thursday january 24
