someone like me alive with music food dumb ideas and opportunity it s been a couple months when i think about austin i do not see a breakfast taco or a golden sunset over the mothership whole foods or the bridge with the bats or the world of ut s campus i see the highway it s narrow through austin buried behind walls and overpasses we were crawling through rush hour traffic and i never wanted to some rabble rousing street art but it is not on the street it has been transported at great expense and with utmost care to the newseum in washington d c because this particular piece of rabble rousing street art is the berlin wall the newseum has the largest chunk of the wall outside germany as with any graffiti this art was created at some risk to the artist from an establishment and the hushed preservation of it by an establishment seems antithetical but especially so here the risk of creation was greater and the artists wanted nothing more than the destruction of the surface on other state is ashamed of the corporatization of america they hide the wal mart well off the main road they do not allow billboards their signage is unified and dignified sure to give no unfair advantage to dunkin donuts which in any case seems to be required to toe the line housing their locations in wood paneled structures and nothing shall unduly disrupt your image of vermont all rolling first guest contribution from traveling companion sarah no one knew what cushings island was no one i had mentioned the name to at one point the people with money and power tried to make cushings island a name that people would know they tried twice to build a hotel on the island a mere 10 minute water taxi from the docks in portland maine both attempts ended in a fiery blaze leaving the remnants of the hotel scattered around a one square mile area on the island today the old bricks mix with the thick underbrush the tree branches and the chunks of pavement from when the island was
