ation plan consultation draft posted on june 29 2026 by lancasterdynamo well we managed to finish our response to the ltp implementation plan full details here in time for the end of june deadline only to discover that the consultation end period seems to have been moved back to just before midnight on sunday 5 july so if you are planning to make your own response feel free to plagiarise us preferably in slightly different words though here is the wide ranging dynamo reply posted in city and county councils consultation cycling tagged lancashire local transport plan leave a comment dynamo meeting to discuss the future of cycling in the district this saturday 27 june posted on june 24 2026 by lancasterdynamo apologies for the very short notice but the consultation closes on monday evening want a say in the future of cycling and walking in lancaster district dynamo is inviting members supporters and anyone interested in safer more sustainable transport to join us for an informal discussion this saturday this is an opportunity for cyclists would be cyclists to meet face to face share ideas and help shape our response to lancashire combined county authority s transport consultation full details here the decisions made now could influence investment in cycling walking public transport and roads over the next four years saturday 27 june 5 30pm 7 00pm olive bar upstairs at the gregson centre moor lane lancaster lancaster district is currently set to receive very little active travel funding in the next couple of years what should our priorities be which past promises and plans should we be pushing to see delivered and what new ideas should we be putting forward we ll also discuss how dynamo can keep members connected and involved in the future basically become more dynamic whether you ve been involved for years or have never attended a dynamo event before we d love to see you there if you can t come but still want to comment please do so below posted in city and county councils consultation cycling leave a comment road safety matters for urgent action posted on may 4 2026 by lancasterdynamo dick recently wrote to lilian greenwood at the department of transport about road safety and received this reply and cycling uk is urging cyclists to respond to the motoring offences consultation deadline 11 may the link gives all the background and cycling uk also provides a useful guide to responding here posted in cycling safety leave a comment update on marketgate cycle ban posted on may 4 2026 by lancasterdynamo the ban is indeed in place people have been asked not to push their bikes through there is a sign see below a third of the way down not quite as hidden as the planning application in the hitchhiker s guide to the galaxy but close the ban is something and nothing an irritation but there are cycle stands outside the shopping centre to park your bike dynamo is asking a local councillor for further information posted in city and county councils cycling lancaster city centre 1 comment updates posted on april 27 2026 by lancasterdynamo three things to report a dynamo member was told that since the beginning of last week wheeling a bicycle through marketgate shopping centre in lancaster is now banned we re investigating further dynamo has heard of someone being knocked off her bike at the roundabout on morecambe prom where central drive meets marine road see photo from google earth she was going straight ahead but kept to the very misleading cycle lanes fortunately she was not seriously hurt and the driver was apologetic and dynamo is inclined to hold the road markings at the very edge of the roundabout responsible we have always been critical of those lanes for the way they position cyclists who are not turning left but want to go straight on or turn right they are not best practice active travel england states cycle lanes on the outer edges of roundabouts are discouraged due to their lack of protection increasing vulnerability to collisions instead cycle friendly infrastructure should be strategically implemented to enhance safety and accessibility for cyclists we have contacted lancashire county council about this and finally a dynamo member contacted his local county councillor about the potholes on meeting house lane which threaten to coalesce into one enormous crater read the story in the lancaster guardian posted in cycle infrastructure cycling lancaster city centre potholes 1 comment write to your local councillors posted on february 1 2026 by lancasterdynamo with the announcement that the tour de france is to pass through lancaster taking in old favourites the côte de jubilee tower and the côte de trough of bowland on 3 july 2027 there is an opportunity for us all to write to our city and county councillors to remind them that a lot still needs doing for regular cyclists below is a letter which tom has written to his local county councillor feel free to plagiarise it but the personal touch is always good to find your local councillor s go to click here for lancashire county councillors who are the ones in charge of highways click here for lancaster city councillors who may be in a position to put on the pressure tom s letter dear councillor it is very exciting to read that morecambe and lancaster have secured a portion of the tour de france route through lancashire in 2027 although i m not usually a cycle racing fan i ll certainly be in the crowd along the route and i am sure millions more will across the county this occasion is going to bring in a lot of business as well as local and international attention to our county s cycle infrastructure as it inspires many to get out on their bikes we saw this effect in yorkshire in 2014 where the demand for cycling provision across the county stepped up and was sustained long after the prestige of the grand depart passing through sadly lancaster district hasn t had any significant infrastructure investment for the past 15 years and the limited network we do have is falling into disrepair as well as having many gaps waiting to be filled i am curious what plans are in place to make sure it is up to scratch both for the race and much more importantly to meet and encourage the expected surge in demand from local residents if lancashire county council makes the right moves this is an opportunity to make a major and long lasting step towards meeting it s goals on active travel climate health and economy kind regards posted in city and county councils cycling tagged tour de france 2027 leave a comment cycle film at the dukes saturday 31 january posted on january 20 2026 by lancasterdynamo the fastest bicycle 15 there is a film director s talk at the dukes moor lane lancaster at 5 p m on saturday 31 january that you may be interested in the fastest bicycle about making the grade at the world human power speed challenge in nevada click here for more details posted in cycling events leave a comment comments on eden project in morecambe posted on december 11 2025 by lancasterdynamo dynamo has commented on the planning application for the much reduced eden project on morecambe promenade ref 25 01118 vcn since there are offroad cycle routes from lancaster and heysham to morecambe there is not much for dynamo to say beyond from a cycling perspective dynamo would stress that good cycle access from the back of the railway station where the lancaster morecambe greenway ends onto the prom is needed at present cyclists are directed onto central drive although it does have a cycle lane the roundabout on marine road is a problem and a deterrent to some we guess cyclists avoid the road by going along the poem path even if it is not permitted towards the prom but there the pathway sort of peters out at marine road central and there is no crossing to the prom at that point could you perhaps undertake a cycling route plan for incoming and outgoing visitors and assess how that would work posted in morecambe planning applications leave a comment planning applications bolton le sands and cockerham posted on december 7 2025 by lancasterdynamo cockerham planning application 25 01034 for 24 houses dynamo objects to this planning application on the grounds that it does not include provision for a safe sustainable cycle route between the new development and the wider area national planning policy framework paragraph 109 new developments have already been approved in the village without improving active travel options there should not be another development without this being addressed there is currently no way to travel between cockerham and lancaster by bicycle except by using the a588 one of lancashire s five most dangerous roads at some point there are few facilities in cockerham so most activities shopping going to work going out will be done outside the village increasing the number of houses without providing a safe cycle route to say the glasson dock path will create extra traffic and extra danger for cyclists this does not fit with paragraph 111c of the nppf to develop infrastructure to widen transport choice slyne bolton le sands planning application 25 00805 for 200 houses this is a very big site and will have an enormous impact on traffic volumes of all kinds at present the only offroad cycling route between slyne bolton le sands and lancaster morecambe or carnforth shops railway stations schools is along the canal which is poorly maintained and unlit minor roads like hasty brow road are already used as rat runs in this respect the development does not sit well beside national planning policy framework paragraphs 115 118 it provides no safe links to existing cycle infrastructure outside the development itself nor proposes anything the design and access statement appears to refer only to cycle movements within the development ignoring the impact on the wider road network the travel plan mentions no actual infrastructure to encourage cycling one possibility would be to focus on the exit from hatlex lane from where one could wind south through residential streets to the next bridge down the canal where there is easy access to the towpath this proposal could be good if a safe route were provided to meet the end of the promenade in morecambe and the towpath all the way to lancaster carnforth were properly maintained such a small thing that would completely change the travel impact of this large and important development posted in bolton le sands cockerham planning applications leave a comment
