is consulting on a new local transport plan for the county whose structure is itself under review at a cursory glance the new plan doesn t have any specific plans for cycling infrastructure and has very little to say about our district just fine words but if you wish to respond consultation lasts until 30 november yes i know we thought we had a transport masterplan for lancashire back in 2016 posted in city and county councils cycling leave a comment consultation on pointer roundabout lancaster posted on october 31 2025 by lancasterdynamo plans for pointer roundabout lancaster lancashire county council as part of its safer roads fund is consulting on plans for the pointer roundabout the deadline is friday 14 november as you ll see the new plans rather discourage cyclists from sailing across the pointer roundabout on the carriageway in favour of crossing each junction individually beside new zebra crossings full details including a link to the plan are here posted in a6 cycle infrastructure cycling lancaster planning applications safety leave a comment dynamo agm wednesday 29 october posted on october 5 2025 by lancasterdynamo come along to our agm at the gregson all welcome posted in cycling events leave a comment illegal e bikes and speeding motorists posted on september 4 2025 by lancasterdynamo on behalf of dynamo dick recently wrote to the local police about the dangers of speeding e bikes more like motorbikes and the enforcement of 20mph speed limits we received a speedy reply the police spoke some time ago to delivery riders riding bikes through pedestrianised areas and there has been a noticeable improvement they will probably repeat this every now and then electric motorbikes are a real problem and particularly dangerous given the speeds involved which makes it hard for the police to intervene however they now have a policing operation to deal with it not a perfect one and it involves a large number of resources to deploy but they did it last month with immediate success seizing over 20 scooters and modified bikes the resources to do this are in demand all over the county but they hope to get them back around once a month 20mph zones are supposed to be self enforcing and as such the road safety partnership deem it that the police do not enforce these there are posters at places where people have specific complaints there is also have operation snap for cyclists experiencing anti social drivers this has resulted in some prosecutions for dangerous driving you can report concerns regarding specific location to the partnership and also the use of bodycam mobile phone footage to operation snap useful links report a speed concern to lancashire road safety partnership driving offences lancashire constabulary posted in 20mph speed limits cycling police safety 1 comment new bridge over burrow beck posted on july 26 2025 by lancasterdynamo the city council is considering bidding for a cycle bridge over burrow beck from the bailrigg student accommodation to the new northstone housing development and off road cycle link to cinder lane they may ask for cyclists perceptions of danger on the a6 from the city centre to lancaster university and dynamo will naturally respond posted in a6 city and county councils cycling 4 comments cycle funding bid for lancaster university students and scotforth residents posted on july 20 2025 by lancasterdynamo sophie standen who initiated our ongoing a6 safe cycle lanes campaign has unearthed a source of potential funding that could give both scotforth residents and lancaster university students a safer cycling boost this source is lancaster university s wind turbine community benefits fund the bid was produced with the help of sustran s network development officer alex miller and especially andy harrod senior teaching associate of lancaster university s human geography department he developed and polished the bid outline into a very persuasive and comprehensive ask it was written under dynamo s name to widen its appeal and with the following title pathways to safer cycling building knowledge confidence and connectivity the bid which is asking for roughly half of the 15 000 on offer comprises three interconnected strands two for the benefit of students and one for local scotforth residents all three strands would benefit cyclists firstly a bicycle maintenance course to empower students with skills to diagnose and fix common maintenance problems e g the m safety check puncture repair adjust brakes and replace worn blocks adjust gears check for wear on chain and true wheels 2 courses x 5 weekly sessions with 6 students per course secondly increase students cycling confidence by discussing road safety uk cycling and driving cultures how to deal with complex road configurations such as road junctions roundabouts and planning routes 2 rides for 12 students per ride on completion of this course students will receive safety and security gear plus a basic tool set and a refurbished bike and finally a participatory design workshop providing a a forum for scotforth residents to input into the campaign to make the a6 safer for cyclists and other forms of active travel the bid encompasses these three workshops plus a walk along workshop to identify discuss and overcome barriers to active travel findings will be shared with lancashire county council in light of its lancaster local cycling and walking infrastructure plan safety gear would be be given to participants to encourage them to cycle and all three courses would be free of charge summary of our progress so far please feel free to comment on it posted in a6 campaigns cycling leave a comment update on a6 safe cycle lanes campaign posted on april 18 2025 by lancasterdynamo below are update summaries of the a6 safe cycle lanes campaign between the city centre and lancaster university following meetings with county council officials please read them carefully because dynamo is asking you for suggestions that might advance the campaign for those who have not been following it you need to know that in essence it is a much needed road safety campaign it has been one of the if not the most important dynamo aims for over 20 years we campaigned 10 years ago and collected 770 petition signatures but not enough to get an audience with county transport officers under what is now a feudal system for cycle campaigners since the tory led council started its purge on active travel by abolishing its cycling officer and its two monthly cycle meetings at county hall the current campaign began in september 2024 it was initiated and led by students and staff at lancaster university and supported throughout by two dynamo members following a string of meetings designing posters and running a face to face and electronic petition campaign we collected with your help 1 420 signatures enough to be granted an audience with county s active travel team despite satisfying county s criterion we needed green county councillor gina dowding s help to open a few doors to the face to face meetings last january the attachments are quite detailed but they give you a vivid picture of how county treats cyclists and the campaign s progress so please try and offer suggestions as to how we might take it forward to fulfilment if achieved it would make lancaster a much safer place for both utility and leisure cyclists and please do circulate this post to fellow cyclists key points raised by lancashire county council plus the campaigns reflections on them comments from lancashire travel fund at point at which financial assurance is in place and almost 1 5 million final allocation from the active travel fund the consolidated active travel fund will replace the active travel
