strange alchemy wild ground wild ground subscribe sign in strange alchemy lyrics prompt may 24 2026 17 20 share the absurd snowball of health challenges continues its roll giardia scarlet fever pots flare but i am cautiously delighted to report that my nerve injury in my neck is healing well enough that i have achieved a few exciting firsts for the year 1 i cut a butternut squash 2 i lifted a five pound weight over my head and 3 i wrote a song on the guitar this last one makes me especially happy i can sit and play for twenty or thirty minutes now without flaring my neck up too badly i ve missed music so much it s felt like losing a language which of course feels an awful lot like losing myself instead of offering you a poem today i m going to share the lyrics of my admittedly still in progress song possibly there should be a chorus or at least a bridge maybe there s another verse waiting to be born but here s what i have for now singing it feels like a balm strange alchemy text within this block will maintain its original spacing when published all year now this falling down of all that i thought knew and all that i planned to do and who who who who who who who who will i be if i make it through for every door that shuts some other opens up but there s a long hall between so many of the doors i ve seen i m in that hall living in that hall living in that hall to swing a door wide and fully step inside i ll have to become the key to a room i can t yet see strange alchemy strained alchemy this hall and me damn does it hurt to be cut to a key i will never stop being delighted by this photo of my dog jeff ostensibly wearing a turtleneck and playing the guitar the prompt if you would like a prompt to play with today and remember that play can be anything so if you between moments the hallway between doors the threshold at which you are neither quite inside nor quite outside pay attention to the movement between yoga poses or running strides the split second when you have set one freshly washed dish down and are reaching for the next soiled one the angsty or electric span of time in which you have shed an old identity and are standing there naked wondering what the hell is next watch the breath or lack of breath between a trigger and a response what do you notice are these liminal spaces any less real any less alive any less important than the supposedly settled states that surround them might there be a sense in which they are more real alive important what have been some of the most significant prolonged challenging necessary or alchemical liminal spaces in your life in what ways are you experiencing liminality or betweenness right now in what ways are you harvesting from the rich soil laid by liminal moments past where do you see hear smell taste touch feel liminality in the world around you i would love to read your poems or reflections i always love to read your poems and reflections no liminality ephemerality there
