yoshi yoshitani s art blog pages home portfolio thursday august 30 2012 the graces euphrosyne one of the three greek graces euphrosyne is the goddess of mirth and good cheer she and her two sisters attended the goddess aphrodite another god image of a destained set of three i wanted euphrosyne to seem cheerful and perhaps a little bit sneaky i imagine her as playing pranks on all the other guests and being overall cheeky but what s a good party without a little fun while she is pretty she is not the goddess of beauty her sister aglaia is and like with aglaia i didn t want to draw her in the greek tradition only thalia left on another note sorry for having disappeared some trials and tribulations include exciting happy news like moving starting a new job learning new programs and meeting lots of new people hoping that everything is settling down into a new routine and i ll be able to create more personal work it really is the most relaxing i ve also been doing a lot of paintings for fun a master copy from memory of eyvind earle s pearl three seasons went the harvard museum of natural history the other day if you ve never been it s tiny but chalk full of good stuff time for my own personal work but luckily i can show of some client work green world i was hired by the awesome web designers at keyed up media to provide some character illustrations for the website they were designing for the company green world it was a lot of fun i made the first pass at the sketches then took the favorite ones and colored them in i drew these guys in various poses and even drew aeration processes and how to identify different types of ticks very cool and these people are crazy good at what they do i was totally stoked to work with them client i was hired in to help a share to x share to facebook share to pinterest monday april 9 2012 the graces aglaia this is one of the three greek graces aglaia or aglaea was the goddess of beauty splendor glory magnificence and adornment she was wife of hephaistos the god of metalworking she and her two the number varies depending on who you ask sisters were often seen in the company of aphrodite attending to the more important goddesses i decided i wanted to make more god images or at least something inhuman yet still with a trace i was also really interested in making a series of 3 so i looked for a set of three gods i decided upon the three greek graces aglaia euphrosyne and thalia but creating greek goddesses in greek styled wardrobe is pretty standard fair and i decided to draw what i wanted as a goddess of adornment i wanted her wearing a lot of adornments but not much else i wanted the shape of her body to be beauty but also to be so extreme as to be inhuman and strange she does not seek glory but is it and willingly offers her sword forged by her husband if you have the courage to take it i started this as a self project but all of a sudden i have become swamped with things i have to do i just march 28 2012 condor s wife outfits this is the main character of the story the condor s wife naiya here are some outfits of her in her original form before she becomes condor s wife i haven t really done much with this story but it is one of the original three that i had planned to work on where as the bear king is from norway and the talking bird the singing tree and the golden water is from a thousand and one nights the condor s wife is from south america of the three this story is the darkest correlating to the morbid nature of many of the stories of south america while researching i felt that a lot of the stories from that region involve callous and symbolic death with trickster like characters i plan for naiya to be more of a conduit for the audience to witness the events that happen the game this show is about some of the recent creations new england game artists have created outside of their professional game development work these nine artists from studios large and small created these pieces for a wide range of reasons from exploring themes of identity to exercising their passion for history to connecting with lost family if you have the chance come out and see it a piece i did 4 years ago i did a series of ace cards at the time the goal was to draw a series featuring males with an emphasis on costuming and color in the remake i took these elements but also expanded them to include environments that they live in full body versus portrait and a cultural reference for each card just 3 more to make going back to remake them i think of the personality of an ace card they have allegiances but they can be tricky and not always to be relied upon sometimes they are your greatest strength but sometimes they abandon you and are the lowest card in the deck erlendr valemon this is erlendr valemon the human form of the bear king bjørn when erlendr was young a curse was laid upon him that turned him into a white bear lene of course doesn t know this and until she accidentally triggers the second part of the curse only sees him as a bear when designing him i wanted him to resemble a polar bear even as a human so i gave him a long neck sloped shoulders sketches for the bear king here are images of lene in her refined and polished costume running around i ve decided to place her and her family in western telemark and so her costume is derived from
