had bipolar like self dx is bad we know this but i was so convinced this was depression since my mother who exhibited the same symptoms my whole life always just told me that she had depression and the singular psych i saw as a kid told me i was depressed like yes as a child that was definitely depression but as i grew up and started accumulating more and more severe symptoms that were increasingly erratic i would believe that episodes of mania and hypomania were good days that i needed to ride out as long as they lasted like no twin that s how i ended up on lean for 5 months of my life reaching a very scary point in my own addiction and mental illness the only reason i ever got help was because i called my best friend after a bad episode of what i didn t realize was psychosis and she told me to go to the hospital even though the episode had since passed anyway if you re ever in a position where you re like damn this is such a weird kind of depression i have on my hands definitely go and get checked out and explain your symptoms to your doctor at your earliest convenience weird depression is often something that needs to be addressed best case scenario a med adjustment fixes it worst case scenario you have something more severe and you ve gotten the ball rolling treating it early the sooner a mental health issue is addressed the sooner you re able to
