good better best monday december 10 2012 i like my birthdays every one autumn brings birthdays in our family we started with jacob who turned 8 this year birthdays are special and involve balloons decorations choice of dinner and personalized cakes i m certainly not the best cake decorator but i enjoy a good challenge it s a good thing too because jacob asked for something that stretched my skills a jedi temple and that was after i talked him out of a 3 d jedi cruiser it didn t turn out as well as i would have liked but it s pretty good for carving cake with an electric knife and gluing with frosting jacob was happy with it though and that is what is most important 8 is a special age in our church and we have long been preparing jacob for baptism and the covenants he makes at that time our whole family has been looking forward to the first of many baptisms in our family grandma and grandpa flew in and we spent a fun few days with them grandma and grandad and great grandad came up from casa grande and we were happy to have them all there afterward we enjoyed dinner and a family guitar concert congratulations jacob rachel s birthday is right after jacob s and she got the celebratory balloons decorations and dinner of choice as well she chose to have a bride cake she is obsessed with brides right now so that was a fun and easy cake to make it s a good thing too because instead of having her birthday dinner the night after like we planned our meetings that night were cancelled and i had to throw together dinner and bake and decorate a cake in about 3 hours we finished just in time happy birthday rachel posted by katie 1 comments monday november 5 2012 happy halloween halloween is a major holiday in our family my kids love it the idea of being a different person for the night is exciting and they often plan for months what they will be i always give them a cutoff date though so i can have enough time to make their vision a reality this year jacob is very excited about star wars and has infected his sisters with that excitement as well jacob was determined to be obi wan kenobi in his clone war armor rachel most often pretends to be ahsoka tano anakin s padawan clone wars and emma wanted to be r2d2 he s just so cool so michael and i decided to dress up with the kids we waited for them to make up their minds and then picked from whatever was left i chose to be princess leia and michael got to be my love interest han solo it was cool to dress up as a family and the kids loved seeing the transformation as we got ready to go they kept calling us leia and han like we were all best friends we had a great time at the ward party emma got the most comments of coolness even by bored teenagers that don t care about anything except candy on our way home from trick or treating on halloween emma asked why do people keep saying that i look so cute which to emma is almost an insult i just told her that they liked her costume i didn t tell her it was because she is so cute posted by katie 6 comments monday september 24 2012 time flies school started the second week of august jacob is now in 2nd grade and rachel is in kindergarten they both love school and their teachers jacob found a best friend in his class which is unsual for jacob and it s been a good thing for him rachel thinks that everyone in her class is her best friend michael and jacob went to a byu football game a few weeks ago they had a really good time and byu even won they went to the brick oven for pizza hiked the y and got some ice cream at the creamery they both had a really good time james has been into everything he loves to rearrange my cupboards and found an open box of cornflakes one time he pulled them all out of the bag and onto the floor except for a few handfuls that he stuffed into his mouth we have relearned how to keep the bathroom doors completely closed james has grown so much and keeps moving forward he has learned to crawl and climb the stairs and is now working on pulling himself up to stand he can say more bye bye mom and a dozen other sounds that aren t quite words he s coming along slowly but surely he s a messy kid but a fun one we love having james in our family posted by katie 1 comments monday july 30 2012 busy july july is always the busiest month of the summer we could only afford to take one week off of work so michael took the week of the 4th off and we crammed in as many trips as we could in that week it started off in show low az technically it was clay springs but whatever at the gibson family reunion all of my siblings minus missionary dana were there and it was so much fun we filled up the kiddie pool but even though the air temperature was in the 90 s the water was so cold uncle craig and uncle jeff did their best to get the kids excited but it didn t last too long there was a ping pong table there and michael put it to some good use the contest became who could score any points on him despite his high handicap i know i didn t score any points on him lucy and james had fun together going through mommy s wallet is a universal good time emma and craig s little boy corban also had a good time together getting into all sorts of mischief oh boy after show low we took a plane to idaho falls for the simpson family reunion we got to see both of michael s brothers and their families and we had such a good time one place we went to was called ijump and it was a very cool trampoline park emma wasn t too sure about it and i finally convinced her to try it out she took one jump and didn t stop the rest of the time the kids all had a blast we also went to pocatello to visit michael s mission president and to visit a water park the kids loved swimming but loved the water slide even more james loved watching and chilling from idaho we left for michigan to visit our very dear friends the sullivans this picture was taken as we changed planes in minneapolis we gave a big hello to my sister dana who is serving in that mission we watched the drawbridge open at lake charlevoix mike and carol showed us their new surprise a huge boat we loved going on the lake with them it was seriously amazing how much i enjoyed myself the kids thought it was pretty cool too jacob and michael going out on the dinghy i think he s feeling pretty grown up here ice cream after going to the beach these are some pretty happy kids emma and jack were best friends we frequently noticed that they wandered off to play together and emma talks about riding scooters with jack all the time what could be better than that picnic in boyne city so much fun our trip was a whirlwind but a good one we loved visiting all of the most important people in our lives and miss you all even more if that s possible posted by katie 0 comments sunday june 24 2012 i m really trying to keep up we are having lots of fun this summer it s certainly an adventure having all four kids at home at the same time i always thought summer would be a lazy time with lots of down time to fill but i think i am much busier during the summer than the school year or maybe it s just 4 kids either way it s still fun we did have grandma and grandpa simpson come visit which the kids loved we did all sorts of fun things like sit on grandpa watch out grandpa we went to the dinosaur park in anthem which the kids absolutely love how does this thing work riding a dinosaur at the end of preschool rachel had a field trip to the bear factory emma got to go and make a stuffed animal too rachel chose a normal brown teddy bear named lizzie emma chose a dark green elephant named elephant hmmmm emma is a great big sister when she s not laying on james knocking him over or taking his toys james had a birthday in april he s
