june 22 2017 let the adventure begin layout hello everyone monica here i am a day late with my june project not even sure why but i guess my day got away from me but i hope you can forgive me when i show you the project i did this month i did a layout and thought i would show you what i did to make it the theme this month was graduation with the twist of travel i have to admit this month s theme really stumped me for the longest time i searched pinterest to see if i could find some quotes and when i put in the words graduation and travel i found this great quote let the adventure begin i thought this would be a great starting point and then i remembered that my oldest niece was graduation from grade 9 this year and i found some fun paper with a travel theme and i was off i started off by picking some great map paper for my background i want my niece to travel the world and see everything she can as she grows up i even found this great graduation cap that i altered with a great tassel to use on the project as well the next step was to use the different pieces of the paper i wanted i cut out and inked the globe section and tore inked the other map section and mounted them on some basic brown card stock i used pop dots to layer the paper so the page has dimension i also used some burlap paper and inked it with a paris stamp i had to create more texture and depth i then wanted to add even more texture to the page so added some texture paste through a stencil on several sections of the page here is a close up of some of the texture paste at this stage i added the picture of my niece i wanted to use for the layout she is such a fantastic girl and takes some interesting photos i didn t even have to work to accent the photo as she did that part for me very creative that girl my next step for the project was to add one of my julie nutting stamps i wanted to bring some other colour into the page and since my niece loves green i chose these colours this stamp also reminds me of madison so fun and carefree once coloured i had to give her a cap and gown i originally wanted her to wear the gown but that covered up too much of the girl so i had the gown behind her to accent her more the last stets were to add the girl to the page along with the text for the quote and then i was done i had a finished layout i hope you like my layout for this months challenge at mixed media mojo is graduation with a travel twist i loved this challenge as i got to use embossing folders distress inks embossing powder and loads of great dies so let s get started i used an a7 card and embossed with tim holtz embossing folder it has airmail emblems and airplanes on it great for a travel card then i used tim holtz distress ink in aged mahogany chipped sapphire and tea die and went over the card after i had embossed the card then the fun began i used tim holtz frankenstein die for my graduate mft diploma die tim holtz postal envelope die tim holtz mover s and shakers die for the vintage camera globe and airplane and tim holtz script travel words from there i colored in the globe with tim holtz distress markers in salty ocean and wild honey then i embossed the globe and script words with clear embossing powder to make them stand out i had to cut out the globe twice to get the silver for the outside frame of the globe and then for the globe itself here ann here and i ve got a quick tutorial for you on how i made my project for our current challenge graduation with the added twist of travel enjoy this is what my project looked like step 1 i used gel medium to adhere tissue wrap paper to the back of the panel and let it dry step 2 simply scribble various colors of distress crayons directly on the surface the distress crayons blend beautifully over the tissue wrap paper step 3 applied texture paste through stencil randomly step 4 using chipboard letter to spell out words congrats step 5 die cut a piece of foggy silver cardstock using the earth globe shape die step 6 stamping the image of girl by dina wakley bachelor cap and diploma by mft coloring with copic markers step 7 i made a black tassels and put it on the left upper corner thanks so inspiration for the ongoing challenge today we ll take you through the process of creating a journal page first prep the page with white gesso next use a stencil with modelling paste we focused on the opposite corners we then used another stencil with the same paste for added texture next sprinkle some magicals and shaker powders and spritz them with water then layers all your elements and stick them mix a little black gesso with water and add splatter use a cap to add some circles on the page with the same gesso here is the completed journal page hope you re inspired looking forward to blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest monday may 29 2017 celebrate love canvas tutorial hello all i am monica and i am back again this month with another tutorial for you on how i made my may design team project this month i did a canvas for the theme of celebration and the twist of wedding so here is a basic tutorial on how i made the project step one of the canvas i just added some texture using modeling paste then for the next step i added colour by spraying the canvas with some of the prima colour bloom sprays the colours i used for the sprays were empress gold tea stain and ginger coral the colours are quite vibrant when first sprayed but i wanted more muted colours so blotted off the excess with a paper towel to get the look i wanted i then added some shimmer using gold glitter dust spay my next addition was the dress for for the wedding dress i just cut out the dress form using my tim holtz sewing room sizzix die i used chipboard and then adhered some basic text tissue to it before i cut it out then i added a white sparkly dress to it i used the same die and just cut out the dress portions of it to make the dress the next step was to add some more texture to the piece so i used a brick stencil and added some of the new finnabair stone effects paste i used the concrete on as i wanted it to look like stone i added it in a few places in larger sections and then cleaned off my pallet knife on the canvas in a few places especially those with other texture already just to add some of the concrete colour over the whole canvas and pull everything together the next step was to finish off the wedding dress and i did that by using some nice white lace and the finnabair sculpture medium this medium dries clear but makes any softer or thinner material thicker and solid i coated each piece of lace i had and then laid it down on the canvas in some wavy patterns to make it look like the dress was blowing in the breeze and then once the sculpture medium dried the lace stays in that shape i then added some other elements to the dress some ribbon some glitter and a flower to finish it off here is a close up of the ribbon lace and glitter to finish off the canvas completely i added flowers and my title pieces in chipboard i sprayed the celebrate chipboard with one of my new marabu art sprays i used gold to give it a nice shimmer and bring out some of the colours in the other ephemera i added to the project i finished off the project by adding some flowers and other bling here is the final project i hope you all like my project and the tutorial i really enjoyed this project and love that it came out pretty much exactly how i envisioned it in my head make sure you check out and join the challenge on the blog you
