moose bay muses june 2018 moose bay muses thursday june 28 2018 june one monthly goal done my one monthly goal for june was to finish my jamestown landing quilt the quilt was started in a class last august with bonnie hunter i would have liked to photo this outside and get a look at the whole quilt but i don t have a good spot to do that right now i used an all over fan to quilt it i like the texture i m not sure where it will end up maybe i should have made it table size the quilt was made by the book until it came to the borders my inner border is slightly wider as i already had the strips cut the outer border is slightly narrower and i m not sure why lol i also mitered the corners because i thought it was a nicer finish jamestown landing is in bonnie hunter s book string fling i think i mentioned before that the binding was finished by machine i used a wide muslin for the back just wasn t in the mood to piece one and the muslin was on hand you can see that my fan quilting is to pinterest thursday june 21 2018 june update well i missed the mid month update again but the month isn t over yet so here goes last week i attended the minnesota quilter s show so many wonderful and inspiring quilts not to mention the vendors of course i tried to use a lot of restraint but when my friend sandi b pointed out the blue and white book for 50 percent off in the sew cherished booth i had to have it i ve been resisting buying this one for months so i think it was meant to be and i only picked up 2 1 2 yards of fabric for the stash amazing if you follow me on instagram you ve already seen these i m having such a great time making these 4 x 5 blocks the block on the left is number 100 of the 182 blocks in the 4 x 5 quilt block anthology i finished these 15 blocks last night only 67 more blocks to go i ve been using aurifil thread almost exclusively on my hq16 she seems to like it lol i broke down and purchased a real thread color chart as it s so difficult to choose colors on line or from the aurifil paper color chart for ordering fyi there is a very good color chart at follow that thread here i m very happy with this purchase it s been very helpful no worries my june one monthly goal has been finished for a while all will be revealed soon you can see from the previous photo that i use an old plastic card to help with my seam allowance i use this stuff on the back of the card i like it because you can easily re position it for a larger or smaller allowance rinse it off when it loses it s grip and it s good to go again don t tell anyone i just couldn t face having a quilt on my lap when it s been so hot so i machine closed my binding on jamestown landing and i don t feel bad about it at all not only has blogger made life more difficult we have been having terrible and extremely annoying issues with our internet connection we replaced our modem today and while activating it found that our router also needs to be replaced apparently four year old hardware is beyond obsolete hopefully things will be straightened out soon thanks for reading and know that even if i haven t been able to reply i appreciate your comments posted by karen in breezy to my email i think i can reply to them directly from blogger but haven t tried that yet i have read them all and thank you for taking the time to comment june is going to be a busy month but i feel pretty confident that i can meet my one monthly goal finishing my jamestown landing quilt my blocks are all together and the inner border is on luckily i had enough leftover matching strips from sewing the string blocks they are slightly wider than the inner border measurement in the book but i m okay with that i think it will work okay i admit i was too lazy to trim them down now i need to make 16 of these printer paper sized string blocks for the outer borders they will be split down the center i m half way there bonnie suggests piecing left over strip pieces together to make them long enough for the border blocks it s nice to not end up with too much waste and you know i love making do linking with one monthly goal here posted by karen in breezy point at 9 54 am 17 comments email
