anyone is unaware the team that makes magic arena has decided to unionize wotc predictably has not had the best response from what i have seen the community has been pretty vocal in support of the union already but i would encourage everyone to keep being loud about it until wotc officially recognizes the union and the people who make the game we all play are secure in their jobs the link above is to a petition on their website i signed it and i would encourage everyone else to as well friendly reminder that this is still happening and wotc is still being shitty about it an update from the they bought homes and built lives around those assurances but they say they are now being told they may need to relocate to washington state or effectively lose their jobs those concerns are a major reason why a supermajority of workers on the arena team are attempting to unionize with the communications workers of america under the banner united wizards of the coast the group publicly launched made early on you each have so and so lifepoints your goal is to reduce your opponent s life to zero although i believe you can also deck them out there are alternate win conditions like the famous exodia but they are unplayable bad you are obstensibly meant to do this by playing monsters and attacking your opponents with them but due to decades of power creep any meta deck must present a winning combo in the first couple of turns due to a lack of keywords or a comprehensive rulebook cards are comically wordy with small differences in grammar punctuation and templating potentially making enormous differences to how they interact with other cards silly things like missing the timing and cards that require you to take an opponent s word about what s in their hand abound this latter thing has led to the also silly rules against bluffing the vast majority of prominent decks are built around archetypes which are groups of cards with a particular word in the name that other cards can interact with like there ll be a maid archetype and it ll be good because you can use cleaning supplies skidoo to tutor any monster with maid in the name which lets you get specific combo pieces the cards themselves seem to have nonsensical and confusing creative but the archetypes are i am told somewhat thematically resonant when played together there are really limiting restrictions on summoning monsters but the game has invented a dozen ways to side step them with special summoning and link summoning and synchro summoning and pendulum summoning whatever those are so they
