paintings from mannheim granville redmond and others in between paintings of the coast of california 1 december 20 2024 walter white the medium charcoal on paper charcoal is a fantastic medium for capturing the depth and drama of a subject its rich dark tones and ability to create both sharp lines and soft shadows make it perfect for a character as complex as walter white working with charcoal allows me to emphasize the contrasts and textures that define his persona the process creating this sketch was a meticulous process i started with a light outline to get the proportions right once i was satisfied with the basic structure i began layering the charcoal to build up the darker areas paying special attention to the shadows and highlights that give walter his intense look the challenge december 19 2024 fragile foundations what do you see fragile foundations december 19 2024 morning at kendall frost marsh i painted with the california art club and the san diego urban sketchers last saturday to support the san diego bird alliance and uc san diego natural reserve system s efforts to preserve the wetlands on the northeast side of mission bay i finished this one at home a few days later morning at kendall frost marsh december 19 2024 the shepherdess my journey with watercolor a reflection on my 2023 art piece last december i had the incredible opportunity to showcase one of my watercolor paintings at an art exhibition this piece which took me a week to complete represents a significant milestone in my artistic journey the creation process every day for a week i dedicated 3 to 4 hours to bring this painting to life the process was both challenging and rewarding i drew inspiration from various photographs combining elements to create a unique composition one of the techniques i employed was making the background elements more blurry which helped the foreground pop and added depth to the overall piece reflections and learnings looking back i am genuinely happy with how the painting turned out it captures the essence of what i envisioned and seeing it displayed at the exhibition was a proud moment for me however like any artist i see areas for improvement there are mistakes that i am keenly aware of and i view them as learning opportunities for my future works moving forward art is a continuous journey of growth and self expression each piece i create teaches me something new and i am excited to apply these lessons to my next projects i am committed to overcoming the mistakes i made and pushing the boundaries of my creativity thank you for joining son after him had got as far away as he possibly could from his fellow men without actually retreating into the woods when he founded his homestead green gables was built at the furthest edge of his cleared land and there it was to this day barely visible from the main road along which all the other avonlea houses were so sociably situated mrs rachel lynde did not call living in such a place living at all it s just staying that s what she said as she stepped along the deep rutted grassy lane bordered with wild rose bushes it s no wonder matthew and marilla are both a little odd living away back here by themselves trees aren t much company though dear knows if they were there d be enough of them i d ruther look at people to be sure they seem contented enough but then i suppose they re used to it a body can get used to anything even to being hanged as the irishman said with this mrs rachel stepped out of the lane into the backyard of green gables very green and neat and precise was that yard set about on one side with great patriarchal willows and the other with prim lombardies not a stray stick nor stone was to be seen for mrs rachel would have seen it if there had been privately she was of the opinion that marilla cuthbert swept that yard over as often as she swept her house one could have eaten a meal off the ground without over brimming the proverbial peck of dirt
