completed challenges as a village for the unexpected journey the groups travelled all around camp and exemplified some great teamwork skills to do tasks like a blindfolded obstacle course or passing a bucket in a circle only using their feet after the activity ended the kids4peace group led a great evening reflection about how making new friendships can change your perspectives on things it s such a great opportunity to be able to have so many people from all different backgrounds be able to come together at this camp learn from one another and make some lasting relationships four trails updates from ben applebaum bauch flag returned from their cycle tour around the lakes region on sunday for the past couple days the women have been resting up and practicing their paddling strokes in preparation for their canoe trip that will take them into the wilds of northwestern maine and new hampshire shaw we welcomed back shaw yesterday afternoon from 6 days of biking in the lakes region they will spend their time in camp cooling off in dan hole pond and climbing on the high challenge course they will also gear up for the final leg of their explorer experience a 5 day hike in the mahoosuc range home to what many consider the most challenging mile of the appalachian trail katahdin returned monday from its canoeing adventure after a great afternoon of climbing on the ropes course the men will spend today on their bikes practicing for what is to come in the final stretch of the session a 6 day tour of the lakes region nesuntabunt reached the town of camden on its way to acadia national park the group will aim to enter the park on thursday and spend some time in bar harbor before heading back to merrowvista chocorua has set itself up for great views tomorrow the forecast is calling for warm sunny weather in their area as the women plan to summit three mountains tomorrow voyageur stayed in the town of chester last night taking in the scenery of the atlantic ocean and nova scotia s southern coast with one more week of biking ahead of them many adventures still await them odyssey men enthusiastically received their resupply yesterday today they took their scheduled rest day and enjoyed the banks of the cooper brook falls adjacent to their campsite odyssey women received their resupply a couple days ago and took a well deserved break today on the shores the first few days of august have been full of beautiful weather lots of fun of course and villages coming and going all day long saturday was the last day of our second round of interest groups all of the campers were busy finishing up their creations and putting their skills to use in final games of volleyball or soccer while most of the campers participated in their activities the 3 week trailblazer boy villages of sentinel and carter dome packed up all of their things and left to go canoeing on newfound lake the boys were very excited to be going on this trip and you could hear them cheering as their vans pulled away we had an exciting night with the ever popular game show founderly feud the game is just like family feud but campers fill out a survey beforehand with questions like what is the most popular camp song and what famous person would play jack in a movie sunday today was an exciting and busy day as many villages were arriving and departing from camp for their trips our 2 week pioneers went on their overnight trips and i have not seen so many smiles while packing before all of the groups spent the morning learning how to pack and about all of the supplies they will be bringing for their hiking and canoeing trips to areas around the camp while we said goodbye to them we welcomed back flag from their bike trip lafayette and liberty from their hiking trips and sentinel and carter dome from their canoeing trips as each group came back in the afternoon they unloaded their things at oce out camping equipment and then unpacked at the cabins before booking it down to the waterfront for beach party we had a perf ect mix of sunshine and a refreshing breeze for the campers to cool off at dan hole pond the event went on all day long until dinner time so everyone had their chance to go swimming and hang out by the water front the 3 week pioneers took the morning shift of the party and then swapped for an afternoon of interest group adventures during the afternoon when the trailblazers headed down to the water the pioneers got to try out some interest groups that they may not have had a chance to do before or loved so much they wanted to do it again after dinner the campers had a game of predator prey for night s doings what i understood is that they are divided into groups of animals each on different levels of the food chain hawk snake frog mosquito and then they have to go out and survive by trying to find shelter and water wood chips hidden around camp they also have to find food which is where the fun happens because for anyone that isn t a hawk you are the food while the groups walked around camp searching for things they had to avoid being eaten tagged by the other groups higher than them on the food chain i travelled with the mosquitos for a while and there was a lot of shrieking and laughter every time we spotted another group and had to book it away as fast as we could power walk until we reached safety out of view when the bell rang all the groups headed down to the a field for evening reflection jefferson village led the er and discussed what the world would be like without mirrors particularly in today s society with so much value placed on looks and so many people feeling insecure about themselves after comparing them to photo shopped celebrities in magazines the girls really did a great job at imagining how much better off people will be if they placed value on things that truly matter here are some of the things they said life without mirrors in my opinion would simplify the world mirrors affect how everyone views themselves in comparison to the others surrounding them without mirrors one s physical appearance would matter to them as much as it would otherwise and self confidence would most likely become stronger shi shi a life without mirrors would mean people not comparing each other and not feeling bad about themselves because they wouldn t know what they look like to feel like they are ugly from seeing someone who is pretty and not like themselves for what they look like instead of how they act people think badly of themselves because of expectations that no one can really be like everyone doesn t like themselves because of the definition of pretty being to have a skinny body and a pretty face instead of how you treat people and act in situations the world without mirrors would mean acceptance of yourself because there are no standards you have to meet the world without mirrors means you can live your life how you feel instead of how you look the air wouldn t be filled with the feeling of not being good enough or the thought of if you re pretty or not the world without mirrors would be better and a world i would want to live in taylor i think a world without mirrors would be good because you wouldn t care how you looked nobody will worry how their appearance looked and what they have to do to change it there s no need to change how you look because you are who you are and that s fine t t in a world without mirrors there wouldn t be any hate generated by outward physical differences there would be no pretty or ugly and no norms a hot one in the old town tonight posted on august 1 2015 by mvcamps hello mv family we continue with our theme of hot days campers coming and going and lots of fun here at merrowvista for this blog post thursday we said goodbye to shaw village as they left for their bike trip and lafayette and liberty as they left on their hiking shakedowns but in return we got nesuntabunt and chocorua village back from their long hiking and biking trips they seemed tired but still full of smiles as they arrived back to camp for a nice dinner and hot shower on thursday morning a new program also arrived at merrowvista called kids 4 peace these campers travelled from israel palestine and boston to be here at merrowvista for 8 days and we are so excited to have them here they will be doing some activities with the merrowvista campers over the next few days the campers are eager to get to know each other and were already ecstatic during lunch when the k4p campers joined in on the e lo songs and cheers it continued to be hot throughout the afternoon so things around camp seemed to be pretty slow as interest groups lounged in the shade in between bursts of activity it was the final day of this set of interest groups so many of the groups were wrapping up their projects or doing fun things to show what they learned like scrimmaging or making one more bullseye in archery in photography we practiced some trick shots like having them be squashed by a shoe which had them laughing out loud every time they ran over to see the completed photo finally we got a little rain to cool things down before dinner which was just what the campers needed to bring the energy for our crazy dinner they piled into the eating lodge dressed in their wackiest outfits for the most spirited and costumed dinner i have been a part of since being here at camp they brought their energy on over to night s doings for mv idol where the staff showed off their talents ranging from balancing brooms on chins to singing songs the campers were a great audience and gave some literal standing o s quite often to support the performances it wrapped up with a quick taylor swift dance party for all to let out that last bit of energy before bed and then the campers headed back to their villages to settle in for the night friday we finally had a beautiful warm summer day with a cool breeze blowing around merrowvista the great weather and bright blue skies had everyone in a more energized mood which had them ready to take on a new set of interest groups as the campers hurried off to begin their new activities carter dome and sentinel had their canoe shakedowns down by the waterfront for their canoe trips and also we said goodbye to lafayette and liberty villages as they headed out for their hiking trips they spent all morning after breakfast learning the best things to pack and then stuffing their bags as best they could before sitting as a village and going over some rules on how to have a fun and safe trip together the girls were all smiles as they piled into the vans and waved their way out of camp night s doings on friday was camper leader hunt a camper favorite the game is a camp wide hide and go seek but the campers must work together as a whole village to find the hidden staff members and then if they are able to they must guess their names together before the staff sign their sheet of paper the goal is to find as many as possible as a team only four villages were able to find me hidden wedged between a rock and a shrub after the bell rang signifying the end of the game all the campers headed to the chapel for an amazing evening reflection lead by nesuntabunt village they discussed the trail names they were given while on their trip and how it fits them personally and how they fit within the village and then the rest of camp silently reflected as the sun set their walk back to their villages was well lit however because tonight there was a blue moon they enjoyed some skips across the a field and scoring a couple baskets on the basketball court while they could still see before heading to bed four trails updates shaw shaw is currently biking around the lakes region of nh on their first night they camped at tamworth campground where there is a small farm complete with a mini horse which the men of shaw were very excited about flag flag village is also biking around the lakes region these ladies continue to lift their spirits through song as they bike over the many hills of new hampshire katahdin katahdin set out on a canoeing adventure this group seems to love water often using their spare time in camp to sail down at dan hole pond we hope they are enjoying the rivers and lakes of maine just as much nesuntabunt the men of nesuntabunt returned from their 10 day hike yesterday they had quite a wet journey through the saddlebacks but got some great views in the bigelows chocorua we got to welcome chocorua back from their bike adventure yesterday as well they will do a high ropes challenge today while they are in camp and enjoy some easy time after their epic bike adventure voyageur coed the voyageurs cruised up the northern coast of nova scotia they are making moves from truro towards shubenacadie today they have biked over 400 miles and befriended cyclists following the same route from new york odyssey women the small but mighty lady odyssey made it to east chairback pond campsite last night after a long day of hiking they have been breaking in their hiker legs and look forward to a great view on top of white cap very soon odyssey things are heating up here at camp posted on july 30 2015 by mvcamps hello mv family we have had a sizzling couple days here at camp after reaching nearly 90 degrees the campers could be seen all over merrowvista downing their water bottles staying cool in the shade of our many trees or taking a refreshing dip in dan hole pond in other events we got some very exciting news here at merrowvista we were visited by the american camp association and found out we did extremely well on our re accreditation i am very proud of all of our staff for putting so much time and effort into running such a great camp and for the campers for being their very best selves tuesday while flag biked out on their trip and katahdin practiced their j strokes and c strokes for their canoe shakedown at the waterfront the rest of camp began their first round of interest groups these activities will continue on for the next three days so the campers can learn and develop new skills practice new games and
