ore than that about the song i m sure gwilym has shared more in the sleeve notes of the physical album but i don t have that so couldn t check it and so instead i sent my little jack digging and he found that it seems never to have been printed but has survived entirely through oral tradition its only documented source is one singer robert pierce roberts of llanddulas near abergele in conwy who lived 1889 1986 he sang this song among others in 1973 to robin gwyndaf of st fagans national museum of history since gwilym has mentioned the st fagans archive as one of the sources of the ballads for his albums that 1973 recording is almost certainly the direct ancestor of his version i was very curious whether the original tune was the same as the one gwilym sings it to but it looks like st fagans have not made that recording available online there is a very interesting piece of sound art from 2020 though created by australian sound artist colin black about captain cat the blind elderly sea captain and narrator in dylan thomas s radio play under milk wood for which colin black has reused that old recording and the piece is available on bandcamp some 20 ish minutes in the whole thing is extremely immersive and interesting actually so it was a cool discovery to make along the way and it s via that route i ve been able to listen to robert pierce roberts s rendition it has a lot of other sounds layered on it here but the tune is perfectly audible and it is essentially the same one as the one that gwilym sings though ngl at least in the sonic context of this captain cat piece the original sounds way creepier like you re legit having some sort of fever dream both the lyrics and the translation of this song are available on gwilym s website and i m also sharing the translation below right above the song itself the socionics section so i ve already written here that gwilym is an iee in my opinion haven t figured out any possible accent yet but it very quickly became clear to me that he s an iee when i was still a relative newbie to socionics so i think he s not a strongly accentuated one and i also wrote there that i could probably write a whole analysis of why gwilym is an iee but am probably not going to do it but i thought we could attempt to approximately type the lyrical subject of this song or kind of take it apart socionically so dude has one giant hypnagogic hallucination of this creepy figure hovering over his bed who s already the same colour as the lily but it s only in the last line that it turns out the suit she gives him is for burying her and that she s dead so we only recognise it as a premonition retrospectively which is very ni as is developed narrative fantasy including anticipation of consequences a tendency towards magical thinking focus on symbolism or fictional reality rumination intrusive thoughts and mental images and hypnagogic hallucinations for that matter we also have good reason to speculate that the narrator is a victim victim types are those with ni as either their base or creative function iei ili eie and lie he s nothing but a passive recipient throughout she gives and gives and gives and he lies there accumulating all of the gifts until the last of them are the shoes of lead and steel buckles and he says he ll never forget the weight of them is this like a more creative and ni ish variation on a succubus the kind of sleep paralysis demon that feels like it weighs you down o being weighted dressed by someone else passively handed one s own grief garment by garment by someone else that s the victim y submission and seeking suffering and self sacrifice reading it more literally you could say that he is infantile and she is caring it s the infantiles who may sometimes find it difficult with the practical earthly matters like dressing themselves correctly whereas the caring often show their love to someone by gift giving lol but i m not inclined to read it like that ethically this peep shows basically only fe the grief here is not privately held as fi grief would be but demonstrative allegorical fantastically exaggerated this makes me think that the song or its lyrical subject or both arguably a huge chunk of welsh celtic folklore in general is iei since iei is nife which also clicks nicely with what i said about the lyrical subject being a victim or an infantile if you interpret it literally because ieis while canonically being victims are nonetheless often shifted to infantile it also probably explains why i as an iei myself find this creepy song to be my favourite lattimore your glossy camry hey people when i was thinking about a bibiel hears things piece to feature today i was hit by a realisation that i really want to feature something by mary lattimore so that s what i m doing and i decided on a piece from her aptly titled album collected pieces from which i ve already shared one piece before wawa by the ocean which at this point is one of my favourite compositions of hers as it s grown on me even further since featuring it can t even tell you why exactly but it s like it implants some fragmented memories in my brain that i ve never actually experienced for real or maybe resurfaces something i ve actually experienced but can t remember otherwise lol who knows and makes me revisit those fake memories because they re sooo cool and i do have real cool associations with it too i picked it as one of the songs for a playlist that sort of accompanies the story of one of my brainworlds so since then it always makes me think of the specific moment in it that it s meant to illustrate or convey i know it sounds freaky but apparently i m not alone having quite interesting experiences when listening to mary lattimore even mary lattimore herself said specifically about this record that putting it together felt like opening a box of memories i m not surprised and while wawa by the ocean is one of the pieces that has this effect most strongly for me it s all of her music that does this to you i say you because i think it just can t be an entirely subjective bibiel thing what enhances this perception is the way she titles these pieces with oddly specific situations or places in mind this one is no exception it s called your glossy camry the camry in question being the car toyota camry her label ghostly international has written about this piece that it is about high school kids driving their shiny cars around a car park i m weird i ve never been a high school kid it just so happened that i was eighteen when i started high school so not a kid technically and went to an adult high school with classes in the evenings and weekends i did happen to drive a car around a car park and somewhat beyond not without close supervision obviously but being blind and dyspraxic that wasn t really exactly the same kind of experience that driving around a car park would be for practically whomever else more like how you d probably feel fixing an electronic device whose operating system is in a language you don t understand and someone has to tell you what you re supposed to be doing with it and for all you know they may just be instructing you to mess it up even further and that wasn t a particularly flashy car either yet listening to this track i feel like i do know what sort of experience it is or at least could be on a sort of emotionally impressionistic level normally my avpd would make me think that driving around a car park with a bunch of high school kids would be an incredibly stressful socially awkward possibly loneliness in the crowd inducing and or just plain boring thing for me to do but this thing i like it at least as an observer anyway the socionics section there s no real socionics section because i ve already typed her in my previous post featuring her and i typed her iei but mentioned that the vanilla chatgpt whom i also asked to type her i didn t have my talanovish assistant grisha at the time yet typed her iee and did have some convincing arguments but basically her music and everything around it is very iei i still think the same and in fact what i ve just said about what her pieces are like and how they make you feel is very strongly connected to the cognitive function of ni as understood in talanovism if she s really an iee she s gotta have some gigantic ni specific era going back to them reliving them and recreating them just as they were then she could be an sei or an sei with an iei accent iei with an sei accent the sei iei hybrid people really enjoy recreating the past and immersing themselves in the sensory details of it and they re basically always at least somewhat artsy people if not artists but i don t get much sei ness or sensing in general from mary s music as such or from anything that i ve heard her say or read about her she seems rather abstract and as far as i am concerned what i get from her music is not so much sensory immersion in anything as more of a sense of a general vibe impression or combinations of emotions if that distinction makes sense this might be me i am an iei myself and one with ridiculously high intuition and floored sensing so i would say that generally conveying anything sensory to me is a skill but si vs ni music also tends to have different qualities in sound in my experience and this reads ni for her your glossy camry bibiel hears things kim robertson lord galloway s lamentation hey people today i thought i would share with you a traditional tune that s got a bit of a strange history to it from the title of it one could easily expect it to be scottish galloway is after all a region of scotland but it s actually irish and the galloway is more than likely a corruption of galway already the first collection of tunes that it appears in misspells the name as gallaway the lament later travelled to london and scotland as well and in london it got further mangled to galloway this lament is attributed to turlough o carolan the famous blind irish harper many of whose tunes i ve shared on this blog over the years in different interpretations however that too is probably wrong irish musicologist and historian donal o sullivan whose study of o carolan s life and work remains the most authoritative source could find no real evidence that the piece was authored by him according to him there s no credible lord galway person that he could have been lamenting there was however one earl of galway henri de massue also known under the title of 2nd marquis de ruvigny a french huguenot who went into exile entered william iii s service and distinguished himself in the battle of aughrim for which he was rewarded with jacobite forfeited estates he founded a huguenot colony at portarlington and served as lord justice of ireland from 1697 to 1701 notably most of the penal laws statutes discriminating against people practising faiths other than anglicanism which in ireland would obviously primarily be catholicism happened to be enacted during the height of his influence he died in 1720 and the tune first appeared in print in around 1724 in a collection of the most celebrated irish tunes by john and william neale so it would at least add up chronologically but o carolan was obviously catholic therefore aside from chronology the idea makes rather little sense to me unless the piece is supposed to lament not so much the man himself but all the ways in which he made the lives of irish catholics at the time suck even more than before lol so what seems to make most sense is to assume what o sullivan does that there really is no incontrovertible evidence of the tune having been written by carolan and that it may not be for a lord galway at all but instead written by one though who that would be i ve no idea as for kim robertson the american harpist who performs this piece she has already been featured on my blog a couple of times including a bit earlier this year with another irish tune cape clear socionics section i didn t type kim in that previous post so i thought i d try to come to some conclusion to share it in this one but it turns out that unlike what i hoped there doesn t actually seem to be that much material to type her from granted i didn t dig too deep yet just asked grisha to look for something but he didn t manage to find a whole lot from what he did find our joint conclusion is that she is very likely an ethicist and quite possibly irrational and judicious that leaves us with just two types sei and iee and although grisha managed to find a quote where she describes her childhood teenage self as an introvert at the same time the sheer quantity and breadth of her output points towards socionic extraversion and or
