for posted january 2 2011 in blogging 0 i began this blog as part of an evo course i took several years ago at the time i was blogging on blogger but they wanted us to set up a wordpress blog so i did eventually i migrated my other blog to wordpress but i chose not to combine the two blogs i am not sure now what i thought was the importance of that but at the time it was an issue since that time i have used this blog sporadically to talk about technology and more commonly to document my experiments with different tech tools and every time i do i wonder why i keep this blog at all i think the reason is that i don t like to eliminate anything that i have posted to the internet it seems dishonest like i am trying to hide something and i am not so i guess i keep this here as a place to play around to show different things i have done and if i take another course that requires a blog i will probably try to use this one for that so while i won t post here often i will be back glogster at if there was spam to deal with edits to be made widgets to change when i got here i started looking back and came upon my february post about setting up a pageflakes version of my portfolio i went to check it out it was a mess my swurl account was showing e bay one of my webquests is housed on a site that has been labeled malicious by google i set about to clean it up and i realized that i don t like the site at all it is visual but it seems messy i didn t delete it but i am not going to advertise that i have it anymore either another change came to me today in terms of facebook i had joined a long time ago and left then i rejoined but i didn t do anything but yesterday i logged on because a friend had posted a note that she was getting married i wanted to congratulate her and get the details then today she wrote back then we ended up chatting for half an hour or so when she should have been out buying fabric to make her wedding gown and it hit me finally i realized that having something like facebook that allows me to keep in touch with lots of old friends is pretty cool i am going to be posting more on this over at random thought s if you want to check it out embedding 1 free technology for teachers had a post a while back about 3 timeline tools i decided to try them out because i want to ahve my students reate timeines in the course i am teaching this summer i looked at timetoast and liked it because if its simplicity however i didn t like the fact that i had to put in a month and day for al entries that lack of flexibility made me less than happy but it still gets high praise for ease of use here is my timetoast timeline mnemograph is now timeglider it was easy to use and let me only show the year of events it demands a description for each event though and i can t always figure out how to get to the beginning of the timeline here is my timeline done there xtimeline is i think my favorite it is more linear in the way you work on it you can see the events you have added in list form and can even print it out in a list here is my timeline there i am not sure that any of these are exactly what i want on a couple of occasions students will be creating timelines based on the reading they have done it isn t going to be a very extensive number of events they have to track but i wanted them to work with the information in the text and a timeline seemed the most appropriate first way to do that i could be happy with students doing a list i guess and then they wouldn t need a timeline tool but i like the idea of using the tool any
