red one and them picked out some perle cotton threads from my stash and packed it away in my suitcase i found that it was pretty easy to do once i got the hang of it i used a very large needle that was easy to slide between the fibers of the felt i only did a little bit each day and finished it yesterday i can t wait to do another but that will have to wait until i get home in april because that is where my large stash of perle cotton threads resides i divided the bowl into four sections by folding it it was difficult to mark because of the density and fuzziness of the bowl i used a sharpie and was able to make a slight mark but some of it was just guessing i am linking up with off the wall friday posted by norma schlager at 12 05 pm 2 comments saturday january 24 2026 under the sea fabric book i finally got my little book together as i had said before the embroideries were done on one long piece of linen and my plan was to make an accordian pleated book it was labor intensive and i did not like the look at all i didn t take a picture but this shows how the last six pages looked before i cut them apart so back to square one i fused each page to pelltex a very stiff and sturdy material that i have used many times for fabric postcards i had a lot of it left over from postcard making it is fusable on both sides i left a half inch border on each page where i punched holes and then laced with paper twine i used a zigzag stitch on my machine around all the edges i was very pleased with the way the pages lay flat when opened the octopus was stitched with mostly chain stitch some little lazy daisies and lots of french knots the fish was cut from a piece of printed fabric he was accented with chain stitch and straight stitch i wanted to try some different techniques the page on the left was all beaded a little fish in the coral with sea shells at the bottom you really have to look hard to see the fish click on the picture to get a bigger view and he is easier to see the seahorses used straight stitch nestting lazy daisies and chain stitch and a few beads on the left is a turtle cut from fabric and sitiched around the edges it is not my favorite on the right is one of my favorites his body is covered with flat sequins and his head and fins are silver and gold lame i did a little watercoloring on the background on the left is a pretty fish with her body colored with watercolor paints and then embroidered i like her the star fish was embroiderd onto wool felt and then attached to the page with buttonhole stitch the left fish is all embroiderd mostly with simple runing stitch with buttonhole around the body and the tail and fin outlined with the outline stitch the jelly fish has a painted body with straight tendrils done with a backstitch the wavy tendrils used siz stands of floss that were couched down with a single strand of floss i painted a little water in the background with metallic paint the coral was stitched entirely with chain stitch labor intensive but i like it and i had to have a mermaid just simple outline fly stitch chain stitch frend knots and a few beads the back cover with a stamp that i use on my handmade luncheon i had my annual christmas luncheon this week i had to seat people for lunch in two rooms as usual the only time i wish i had a bigger house or at least a bigger dining room so we had 8 in the dining room and eight in the kitchen i am fortunate to have a lot of christmas dishes so both tables looked festive i make party favors each year for my guests to take home and this year they were handpainted bookmarks i have a very nice punch to make that pretty top and a variety of red ribbons from my stash i used a cute penny black stamp in black and water colored them in i painted the branch and glued tiny little red rhinstones for the berries and some glttter on the hat trims i usually run my bookmarks thru the laminator but it did not like the rhinestones and left an unattractive gap around them so no laminating but i made them on heavy watercolor paper and they were strudy enough i placed one on every napkin i also make a special cocktail each year in addition to wine this year it was pepperment tinis i rimmed the glasses with crushed candycanes and some with flaked coconut if you rim the glasses the night before by dipping lightly in light caro syrup and the crushed candy it sets like cement and never comes off when drinking the drinks were a combo of vodka pepperment schnapps and half half and a few drops of red food coloring everyone thought they were delish i also had sparkling soda for teetotalers i forgot to take pictures of the drink they were pink look at these very cute and appropriate cocktail napkins i found on amazon about half of us in this picture that s me in the middle with the christmas apron we thought it was amusing that everyone wore either red or black or both here you can see my pink candycane martinis with marilynn maxine and jeannie it seems like christmas came very fast this year but i am almost ready i baked two batches of biscotti today the only cookies i make anymore pistachio dried cherry my son s favorite and cinnamon sugar pecan now if i can only keep from eating them i hope you all have a very merry christmas or any other holiday you celebrate let s hope that 2026 is better than 2025 i am linking with tree covered with santa ornaments mostly glass even tho it is quite full there is always room for one more but this year there are four more that i will share with you this first one was gifted to me by kate a member of my fiberworks group at a meeting at my house yesterday it is amazing and has so much detail the book he is reading is a map of the world there is beard shampoo and several books on the floor so cute my very thoughtful niece nancy sent me this very fancy retro sewing machine again so much detail it is hanging on my tree and maybe the santas will learn to sew and help out mrs santa and here is mrs santa mending santa s coat i bought her online most of the very good glass ornaments are made in poland or germany this one is made in china and does not have the detail of the european ones but she still pretty cute this slender skiing santa i guess he doesn t eat a lot of cookies was purchased at my favorite garden center shakspeare s garden that turns into a winter wonderland for the holidays they display a huge amount of decorated trees each with a different theme and all are splendid it gets better every year every year it gets a little harder to do this at my advanced age but with a little help from a strong young man who assembles the tree for me to decorate and carries the heavy tubs of christmas decor up from the basement i do love the results and will went to a farmer s market where there was a woman selling handmade cards they were beautiful and i was intrigued she told me that she gave workshops if i was interested and i was we made three cards using her stamps inks and papers i thought it was a lot of fun so ordered a couple of stamp sets and a couple of packages of papers and a few inks i was hooked and that was just the beginning it has gone on to be a major hobby i had to buy more storage units in my studio which was already full of fabric and quilting supplies i now have about 40 stamp sets reams of papers so many inks a big shot machine for cutting dies many embossing folders and an embossing machine ribbons distress inks etc etc i find it to be creative and fun i make birthday cards get well cards sympathy cards thinking of you cards and thank you cards i try not to repeat myself i really should get rid of some of my older sets because i rarely use them btw the stamp sets come with no instructions or suggestions you can use them in any way you like you can get ideas on pinterest to see how some other people have used them but this post is about christmas cards i send about 45 each year i know i know not that many people send christmas cards anymore but do i love to send them and love to receive them and i love to make them i saw a very cute set of tom holtz dies last year on sale after christmas and couldn t wait to use it for this year s cards it turned out to be very labor intensive i used seven different dies for each card some of them had to be cranked thru the big shot machine over and over especially the merry christmas one because the gold paper was very thick they are bordered in navy the other blue is my ironing board cover each of the tiny windows on the buildings the inner parts of merry christmas the inner parts of santa and his sled the holes around the edge of the oval and the inner parts of the earth circle had to be poked out with a pin and often then pulled away with tweezers yuck too much work i like the santa and am trying to come up with a different idea for the remaining 40 cards without so many die cuts these cards are 5 x 7 lasr year s cards were so much easier no dies just watercolors layered papers and a little bow they were also smaller 4 x 6 they had three layers for the front white red and white again i like borders i do somethling different each saqa aucton quilt and others i received an email yesterday telling me that my saqa auction quilt had sold happy to hear radically red made using my hand dyed cotton and dupioni silk and a lot of free motion machne quilting i m glad it went to a good home other news i finally fnished puting together the 30 blocks i received from the toward 2025 project in the pheonix az botanical gardens you can read all about it here https www toward2050az com the 30 blocks i received were of various techniques and skills and it was challenging to sew them together but not nearly as challenging as quilting it when i volunteered to make a quilt i thought it would be be lapquilt size not bed size i have often quilted very large quilts but they were quilted in segments and then the quilted sections were sewn together i have done this many times with great success but there was no way to do it for this quilt each block quilted down to 9 with two inch borders and sashing i lugged my bernina downstairs to the dining room table to give it more room to spread out i still found it very difficult to do i chose to sash it with this limey green fabric hoping to give it some cohesiveness when i received the blocks the labels were sewn onto the back of each block i had to pick them off and sew them onto the backing of the quilt before the quilting another challenge to get them in the right places so that they corresponded to the blocks in the front i had a large piece of micki lawler skydye fabric and with the addition of my ice dyed fabric down the middle there was enought for the backing these quilts will be given to victims of climate change hurricane flood etc i hope someone will enjoy snuggling under it other news not so happy i fell in my studio this week and broke two ribs ouch very painful but there is nothing to be done i spent a whole day in the er so i could get a cat scan the x ray taken at urgent care did not show any breaks but the doctor wanted me to get a cat scan because it was close to my kidneys thankfully it did not affect the kidney but did show two broken ribs they no longer tape up the ribs you just have to be patient and let them heal how did i fall i m not really sure i was pivoting from one table at a right angle to another something i ve done a million times and down i went hitting my side on the corner of the table the table had a rounded corner
