notes of life there s something i ve been dying to tell you the review x search for 28 may 2026 facebook twitter instagram rss main menu skip to content home about review policy contact posted on 7 february 2015 by nikki ann there s something i ve been dying to tell you the review author lynda bellingham publisher coronet isbn 978 1473608566 when i picked up there s been something i ve been dying to tell you by lynda bellingham i hadn t realised it wasn t her first memoir i was part way through chapter 9 when the realisation dawned when reading i ve gone into detail in my first memoir however whilst this book didn t tell me much about lynda s early life it told me enough to want to delve into it via her first autobiography lost and found the dedication of this book alone gives you an insight into lynda s personality the last line of the dedication reads respect and don t take shit from anyone great advice in true lynda style lynda bellingham is possibly best known for her role in the oxo adverts but she s done so much more she s had both tv and film roles including all creatures great and small and doctor who as well as many roles on stage she s even penned a couple of novels lynda s life was thrown into chaos when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer an illness which is so close to home for me as my own dad suffered from it well over a decade ago but dad was luckier as his was caught earlier still this book hit close to home as it was an insight into what dad might have suffered if he hadn t been so lucky lynda died in october 2014 aged 66 so i came to this memoir after her death which put a little spin on reading it half way through the memoir lynda asks herself would there be a christmas for me next year i wondered i knew the answer sadly she hadn t quite made it christmas was always a big thing for lynda and her last christmas in 2013 hadn t been so good as she spent it in hospital being quite unwell at the time whilst there s something i ve been dying to tell you charts lynda s cancer diagnosis and what lay beyond this memoir is not a tale of woe considering the subject matter lynda had a knack for humour and wit in her writing whilst at the same time not making light of the situation bowel cancer is not an easy subject to discuss especially when it comes to the symptoms and treatment yet lynda managed to write about it intimately with honesty and at times brought humour to it even down to nicknaming her stoma the furby don t get me wrong though this book isn t just about lynda s illness or how she dealt with it it s about that part of her life which just so happened to be the last part of her life she talks about her family life her career and her achievements as well as her illness i can t think of any other book in which i ve highlighted so many passages whilst not the easiest read this memoir is both moving and humorous and i was gripped from the start lynda s personality shines through in this book and the reader gains an intimate knowledge of a horrid some say embarrassing disease very few people talk about for an honest down to earth touching celebrity memoir you can t go wrong with there s something i ve been dying to tell you by lynda bellingham order there s something i ve been dying to tell you by lynda bellingham hardback paperback due out may 2015 kindle auto biography books e books reviews post
