to go the parade didn t start till 7 but we were told to go super early to get good seating because it gets packed so we left around 1 and got there about 2 30 aomori is about a 2 hrs drive without taking the toll roads eddie was pretty tired from running in the bomb suit so chris and maddie drove their car while we basically napped in the back once we got to aomori we walked around like every festival there was food drinks and entertainment while walking around we decided to scope out the best seating and 90 of the seating was taken uggghhhh so this caused some tension and attitude from me and for about an hr i acted super dramatic and the only reason i m added this to my blog is because i m sure eddie maddie and chris will say something to me about it if i don t honestly i was prob hangry bc i didn t eat anything all day up until maybe 4 30 so after that i was perfectly fine lol the parade started with the drums and the raserra chant that chant was so stuck in our heads we wanted to know what it meant and after some research google come to find out it has no meaning at all which is so weird what did they do make that word up one day instead of google i need to ask a culture fun japan lifestyle military parade travel leave a comment on nebuta festival lemon blueberry bread this lemon blueberry bread is a delicious flavorful quick bread perfect to enjoy along with a cup of coffee or tea this recipe comes together quickly and would beautiful for a special brunch tea party or just a regular stay at home and bake with your friend day like mine this was the first time i ve ever made any type of bread so i was excited and quite scared at the same time the day before we made this i went blueberry picking with some friends so i was super excited to use my own hand picked fresh blueberries for this recipe i called maddie over and we got to work this was maddie s first time baking anything from scratch so she was excited just as much as i was i usually bake quite often but since i ve been in japan i haven t baked anything so this was my get my head back in the game type bake this lemon blueberry was so moist and sweet i m definitely making this again lemon blueberry bread yield 1 9 x5 loaf perfectly moist flavorful and delicious quick bread ingredients 1 and 1 2 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 3 cup unsalted butter melted 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 2 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 teaspoons fresh grated lemon zest 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 2 cup milk 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries i used fresh 1 tablespoons all purpose flour lemon glaze 2 tablespons butter melted 1 2 cup powdered sugar 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 2 teaspoon vanilla extract directions preheat oven to 350 f and line a 9 x 5 loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease with butter in a medium bowl whisk the flour baking powder and salt and set aside in the bowl of an electric mixer blend together the melted butter sugar eggs vanilla lemon zest and lemon juice mix until well combined while slowly mixing add flour mixture and milk in two batches some flour then some milk then the rest of the flour and the rest of the milk stop mixing as soon as it s just combined rinse off the blueberries if using fresh so they have just a bit of moisture on them then in a small bowl toss the blueberries and 1 t flour this flour coating will help prevent the blueberries from sinking to the bottom of your loaf while baking add the flour coated berries to the batter and gently but quickly stir by hand to combine immediately pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 55 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean cool bread in the pan for about 30 minutes then move to a wire cooling rack with a baking sheet below to catch the glaze you re about to add prepare glaze by simply whisking together the melted butter powdered sugar lemon juice and vanilla then pour glaze bread hiking hakkoda i was so stoked to hike this mountain because wait honestly i have no idea why it s probably because i just got a pair of hiking boots and i wanted to wear them seems more like me doesn t it no but for real i wanted to break in my boots but i also wanted to hike this mountain obvi let s back track a little bit so the original plan was to go hike then camp which i wanted to do so badly but than a little precious baby girl came into our lives and made that trip a no go for me yes i m talking about beemo our sweet little kitten she was still bottle feeding so there was no way this mama was about to leave her baby now daddy on the other hand hmmmm what do y all think he did yeah of course he left me alone with a 3 year old and a new born for the night so let s just say i was soooooo salty you guys know when you don t want to ruin someone s trip but you also don t want them having fun without you that was totally me so i in turn proceed to still try and ruin their trip eddie how could he just pack up and go i wanted to camp i wanted to hike too anyways fast forward to the story he told when he came home so apparently the guys thought it was a good idea to wake up at 12 am and do the 3 hr climb to watch the sunrise sounds like a good idea right not when you don t have flash lights and you weren t prepared for a night hike especially when there are bears around and you have no idea where in the world you re hiking so according to eddie they basically sprinted up that mountain they get up there and it was so foggy they couldn t see anything no sunrise no mountains no glory to top it off they got back and it was pouring so all of eddies stuff got soaked at that moment i was so happy i didn t go on that trip haha whew sooooo happy so we re fast forwarding again to this past weekend eddie was down to take the hike again in better weather better time of the day with his beautiful wife i mean what more could he ask for we also hit up some friends who had previously gone the same day eddie did we were all supposed to take that camping trip but beemo but didn t finish the hike because they didn t have proper shoes or enough water so maddie and chris were down and with the proper shoes and enough water we were off to mt otake it s about an hr drive from misawa so we left about 9 30ish and started the hike closer to 11 one of the first things you see when starting this hike are steps ugggghhhhhhh nooooooo i couldn t even get a little warm up first guys i was a bit scared immediately thought to myself am i gonna make it these legs though all jokes aside it was a pretty awesome hike we took a few 10 min breaks here and there just to slow our heart rate down well honestly i m not sure if the guys would ve taken any because most of the time it was me and maddie suggesting breaks for this being both of our first time taking a 5 hr hike i think we did pretty freaking awesome the rocks were no joke and the last 30 mins definitely called for a push just when you think hey we made it ummm nope you can see the top but you can t see what you have to climb to get there making it to the top was very rewarding for me and eddie as husband and wife and for us and the normandins as friends it would have been so easy if it was just me and eddie to be like ok babe i m done let s go back but when you have a group of people pushing each other to make it to the top it s so awesome did i mention maddie has asthma so she rocked it definitely a trooper the scenery was beautiful i absolutely love being surrounded by nature so green and so fresh the sulfur wasn t so great but eventually you can t even smell it anymore lol we stayed at the top for about 30 mins to enjoy the scenery and prepare ourselves for the hike back down fast forwarding to the end i fell a total of 7 times coming down that mountain and everyone else was fine except maddie she fell once lol but not even close to the amount of times i fell after we finished we were starving all we could think of was food so with hurt feet messy hair and sweaty clothes we made our way to anthony s pizza and tore up some pizza and chicken wings this day was so bags and take a vacation i couldn t tell you where my ideal summer vacation spot for 2017 is because just being in japan these past couple of months has seemed like vacation enough i met up with my friend and travel instagrammer travel_lagged jessica morales to see what this years travel must haves are we really wanted to go the unconventional route not just the over done basic s so here are her top 11 travel must haves for the summer 11 refillable water bottle one that stays cold always remember to hydrate guys last thing you need is to be on vacation and end up in the hospital for dehydration jessica says when we traveled to bali we forgot to pack a insulated water bottle so we ended up buying one it was so hot outside our water bottle went from cold to hot in a span of 5 mins 10 medication be sure to pack medication for nausea turbulence speed boats and unpaved roads can all cause motion sickness 9 baby wipes a lot of countries don t have toilet paper in restrooms so it s better to have a pack just incase after talking to jessica i learned that once you leave the tourist spots in a couple of countries they have hoses in bathrooms in place of toilet paper 8 chafe stick marathon strength i don t care who you are you re going to have a chafe somewhere always pack a chafe stick in your bag for long walks hikes and especially for comfort when walking around after the beach i have to admit i cracked up during this one 7 sheet mask to help skin recover after a long day of traveling and sun exposure 6 water proof bag and phone case when in a different country it s best not to leave your things unattended if you decide to go snorkeling you can take your valuable items with you and the best part about a water proof bag is most of them float 5 poncho dollar store weather is unpredictable and holding an umbrella is very inconvenient you don t want the weather to ruin an already planned day 4 birkenstock sandals only shoes i can walk 20 plus miles in without my feet hurting if you don t have a pair of birkenstocks other brands work just as well as long as they are comfy and reliable it s up to you 3 chrome book the chrome book is easy to travel with because it s lightweight take a light weight laptop with you to back up your pictures during your vacation to free up some camera space 2 luggage scale so you always know how much is in your suitcase especially when you plan on purchasing items 1 gimbal selfie stick stabilizer with this device photos and videos come out clear because it stabilizes movement ok guys so be sure to screenshot this list or save this page when traveling and for added flair you know me i decided to add my top 3 outfit must haves when traveling so i went though jessica s luggage and had a little moment of styling bathing suit i could t be more of a water baby anywhere i m vacationing during the summer a bathing suit is the first clothing item that is going in my bag 2 comfy top and shorts or romper number one thing when traveling is comfort yes we want to be cute but make sure you re comfortable in what you are wearing some cute shorts and a top are definitely a go and if you know me you know rompers are decided to take a trip to cape shiriya it s known for the wild horses and light house cape shiriya is a two hour drive from misawa and it felt a lot less unlike our other far drive there were barely any winding roads so it was more like a straight shot north the ride was filled with laughter good conversation and pee breaks because as always someone drinks a ton of water before these trips i wont say any names cough cough eddie cough cough during the drive i stared out the window and adored the greenery it s one of my favorite things about living in japan it s sooooo green so much nature and sooooo many bugs the bugs are one of my least favorite things i was just telling eddie a few minutes ago i have never encountered so many bugs in my life we have big black beetles in the hallway and a huge huge spider outside the entry way door i never get weirded out about spiders but guys this thing is huge i get the creeps just looking at it today wasn t the best of days to go to cape shiriya because of all the sea fog it was bad we could barely see the light house that was just in front of us i couldn t get a good picture of it so there wont be any pictures of it today we do plan on going back on a clearer day so stay tuned the horses were massive and intimidating at first not really but after eddie and trevor kept saying one kick from one of those things would break me i started to freak out a little then i figured they encounter people all the time what are the chances of them picking me to kick haha the foal was the cutest he she just laid there napping without a care in the world i encountered another one and his momma later and we was very interactive with me only downside to the trip were the ticks the horses were covered with them i just wanted to give them all baths and a good brush oh by the lighthouse i met some girls who allowed me to take a picture of them holding something that looked like a sea slug there was a lot of screaming initially but she finally
