and commissions note for some reason my tag for the wanderings of húrin broke so the tag is now tol acharn primarily the silmarillion and the children of húrin but i do lots of lotr and general tolkien stuff too especially about elven languages feel free to ask questions my username is a reference to the wanderings of húrin i honestly do not remember why i chose it areas of interest to me are world building environment nature society culture etc of beleriand middle earth and valinor as well as angband please ask questions about this i now have a masterlist for environmental world demons of shadow as well as fire i already think have more horror potential than are given credit for gothmog in particular though seems to possess an intelligence and a deliberate cruelty that the others of his kin do not have to the same extent he seems very much to thrive on the terror and intimidation he wields as one of the most prominent faces of angband s armies and the stories of his deeds rival those of sauron s he kills fëanor and fingon with both attacks showing a chilling combination of pre meditation and pack predation he drags húrin to angband with mockery one of if not the only implications of speech for him or his kin i think gothmog probably has a collection of trophies he s taken from his victims some of it he warps into his own battle armor to face his enemies bolstered by the fragments of their fall and more so by the terror it invokes some of these items are from well known figures a torn and bloodstained banner of fëanor a melted dagger from one of maedhros s guards the first helm of maedhros himself the broken shield of fingon cast aside when he was struck and a few dented pieces of húrin s armor much of it though would be unrecognizable to any but those unlucky enough to know exactly who once wore the armor or trinkets and who came upon them face to face in the worst way gothmog the silmarillion musing and meta the children of húrin in the iron hell blood and darkness may 18 2026 i ve been thinking about morwen s line to túrin if you wail other things will find you first said to him when he starts to cry in their conversation before his departure to doriath it s harsh certainly and it s undeniably true i think morwen heard this herself as a child fleeing the bragollach with other bëorian children perhaps she even witnessed this come true the cries of her younger kin attracting the attention of enemies or even simply of wild animals morwen at her age eleven or twelve might have been among the older children and more capable than some of the elderly many of whom i believe died on the road to brethil of the burdens that might have been placed upon this newly orphaned possibly injured child to gather materials and other chores she would have been used to but also to keep watch to keep children quiet to dig their graves all without tears i have been thinking a lot lately too about how a lot of her later approach to things could have been influenced by emeldir very interested in them having an incredibly complicated almost contentious relationship a mutually respectful one for the most part and she s learned so much from her but emeldir absolutely knows that she s causing a lot of damage to young morwen and she also knows that she doesn t really have a choice because the alternative is worse i think about the resilience that morwen instills in and demands from túrin and niënor and about her knowledge that children can and do survive horrific circumstances is entwined her knowledge that often they don t letinwessë from quenya meaning constellation derived from tinwë an early word for star i have a list of the constellations that can be found in middle earth here tinwithli is the sindarin cognate not rich descriptions of his realm in the book of lost tales are so interesting to me i also love the potential for horror and the strange and uncanny within the powers and domain of each vala and irmo especially is fun his physical domain is a place of illusions and shifting paths glades with springs where the mere mist that rises off them is enough to lull the unsuspecting into a trance elves can become easily lost in those gardens and there are tales of souls who sleep for years before being found entangled in scented vines and night flowers waterfalls reflecting kaleidoscopic colors and trees tended by strange pollinators boundaries shift and blur in a thousand ways and of course the maiar who once served him who now serve melkor are capable of other terrifying deeds the guardians of angband s nightmares the crafters of cruel illusions and masks who can deny sleep and induce it who can wear a million faces or none at all the silmarillion musing and meta the lord of the rings lotr strange geographies irmo in the iron hell valinor valar may 16 2026 the word for wolfsbane in the hadorian language means horse bane and it is considered among them to be an ill omen it is often destroyed on sight especially in their fields and along grazing routes children are taught from a young age to identify it gifting these petals to another is considered a grave threat and dark tales are told of the plant s ability to kill a horse within hours and a man even more quickly during húrin s relatively brief time as lord of dor lómin there were two instances where he had to litigate a
