painting sanctuary pages home commission gallery thursday february 12 2026 gdg painting contest phase 3 entry here we go week 3 an infantry unit with attached heavy weapons team used sgt rocky top as the unit sergeant because he s pretty awesome as a figure the infantry unit has 2 bazookas as specialist weapons to give some more punch though i m not a fan of the range its not really long enough imo hopefully the judges will pay more attention to the actual painting of the figures over presentation way to often in painting contests the paintjob is only a fraction of what actually gets taken into account i ve been in contests where people entered basically dioramas with fairly average paintjobs but those people got some of the top spots over simpler presentations but better paintjobs i m not at all saying gdg s people are going to do that but it is always a worry after having seen it happen in several contests i ve seen or been involved in posted by elbrun at 12 16 pm no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest wednesday february 4 2026 gdg painting contest phase 2 entry seeing as i am predominantly going for us forces to play in marcher currently i decided to do up a unit i hadn t so far printed the lynx is a neat light scout mecha and after looking through the official color schemes of the us forces i settled on the standard us army color scheme turns out it hits pretty hard on an infantry model this big the real trick was moving a bit away from my standard vehicle painting routine and implementing some creature techniques to competition phase 1 entry having checked that multiple entries are possible and then having that clarification reclarified i ve removed entries i ve decided to enter several of the marcher models miniatures that i ve painted either recently or some time ago edit after a further clarification i ve removed all but one entry removing all post content for any former entry that is no longer an entry the flag bearer hero dude of the concord minor branch of the us army which i can never remember his full name donahue or something like that and yes white is still a pain as is yellow gold but done well it pops sadly my phone camera is a bit flakey when it comes to taking pictures of miniatures and my lighting really isn t the best i have to find my old camera and dig out my light booth for golden dragon games painting contest after some printing of possible models to paint i have finished one of several possible entries this being one of the revised us cavalry bikers i finished him a general taking me from building or painting as i dealt with a lot of things but this last year i ve actually gotten going again with hobby things this upturn in inspiration and motivation is a bit sputtering but there so i ve decided to kick off writing here again i ve gotten interested in a new wargame and reinterested in a couple of older ones marcher empires at war a world war ii alternative history dieselpunk sci fi wargame from golden dragon games which tickles a few of my hobby and general interests my oldest has gotten into it as well and with my addition of a resin and fdm 3d printer to my hobby arsenal we ve begun to build our armies i ve gone with the us forces while he has gone for the empire of japan both of which are full of interesting minis and vehicles we re also looking into starting some necromunda play this year which will be a return for me as i used to play it the first few years it came out in the 90 s gdg has started a 4 phase painting modeling contest this month running into next month which i plan to toss my hat into the ring for updates and hobby content will be coming though i ve not set myself a schedule yet start a bit slow and build up i think be anything here life well it happens been quite a while since i posted but there are pretty good reasons two changes in jobs closing the commission painting business due to lack of clients etc etc etc lets just call it no time and keep it simple as it stands i have a lot of gw dark eldar and space marine product sitting on shelves that i m going to be selling to clear space plus some specialty stuff i bought and i m never going to get around to working on from other companies it s pretty distressing to know my hobby time is going to be practically non existent for quite a while yet geeze thinking about it i haven t played a single 40k game in nearly 2 1 2 years and about 2 for infinity i really need to get some table time with infinity compared to 40k infinity is by far more fun to facebook share to pinterest tuesday september 4 2012 initial terrain wip part 7 had to take some time off from the work on the sinner s respite due to my printer running out of ink but i finally got moving on it again after a trip to fedex kinko s i printed out a number of textures on cardstock to use in detailing out the structure overall the effect is pretty nice and a bit of touch up with paint and marker will be necessary but i am happy with the direction this building is going in i ll be working on the second level later tonight with a total revision of how to do the doors which
