06 2020 19 06 2020 pistachios 6 comments i have found an unexpected benefit from this whole lockdown situation and it involves coffee prior to lockdown i would get coffee from the hospital cafe on most days that i work when lockdown rules came into place they no longer allowed use of keep cups an understandable rule but this has been one of the greatest disappointments of all at first i continued to get take away coffees now in disposable cups but eventually the guilt got to me i decided to cut back continue reading sleep results april 01 05 2020 pistachios 2 comments since today is the first day of may i have now had thirty nights of sleep through april so i suppose it s time for a recap on the never ending struggle to fix my sleep i haven t posted a recap for february or march because i went on holidays at the end of february and didn t get a chance to look at that month s data and since i was not at work during most of march i thought all of that data would be terribly skewed and show a falsely positive result anyway a quick glance over the february data shows that it was much the same as january with several nights of inadequate and or poor quality sleep as such i don t think it would add much value to my study besides i really can t be bothered entering all that data and properly analysing it in the first two weeks of march i was consistently sleeping at least 7 5 hours each night often more so i stopped recording my sleeping hours and scores because i figured it would just end up as a flat line of very uninteresting data in april things were kind of back to normal in the sense that i was back at work every week so i resumed recording from then sure i could have included the last week or so of march but i was readjusting to not being on holidays and i a graph in this post but it s of rather ignominious appearance which is to say that it is not very pleasant to look at because there are many sharp corners on account of the high variability of my sleep patterns occasioning the graph to take many turns up and down as it traverses along the x axis it should be noted here that i m still making my way through the last several chapters of nicholas nickleby by charles dickens who is renowned for his lengthy sentences and whom i greatly admire as an author and so it is inevitable that after reading any of his books for any considerable length of my never ending quest to fix my sleep but i ve come across an interesting revelation in the first couple of weeks which i thought was worth noting here previously i had mentioned that i was going to try to do some reading and some farsi persian study every day and that this goal is likely to hinder my goal of sleeping earlier maybe it s still early days and too soon to make any conclusive that i was going to devise some sort of system for fixing my sleep i ve had some time to think about this and have come up with something that might work realistically the only two things i m interested in when it comes to sleep is the quantity and quality that is the actual number of hours of sleep and whether or not this sleep is restful this was a good first step because i don t want to a voice in my head that s piped up with those who don t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it so i guess we ll look back before we turn and keep going of course i do this constantly anyway ruminate is probably in my top 100 favourite words that s just a rough estimate because i don t think it would make the cut for top 10 and even top 50 could be a bit tricky to figure out besides there are a lot of words out there and a lot that i like another wise saying that i ve been mulling over recently is the one that goes something along the lines of stupidity is trying to achieve a different result by repeating the same process i know that s very much paraphrased and reworded but i can t be bothered looking up the original well ok i will but only so that i can credit the original genius
