luckily i m able to work from home so my financial situation is not that bad my mental health is i may say ok as well i am quarantining alone though i feel lonely sometimes i like it i can have time doing stupid stuff that i usually plan to do some quiet time when i want to and the freedom of being in pajamas all day xd yeah as i said i felt lonely at time especially i like hanging out with my friends at cafe shops going window shopping and eating together which we can t do any of that anymore fortunately i have internship with one friend from the class and we have meeting everyday so i get to meet and talk a little bit everyday beside that our professeur organized a weekly meet up which i get to hear from everyone in the class so the situation for me is not so bad overall i still can t believe i fly thousands miles from home just to be stuck at home in another country d but whatever the priority is to stay safe and flatten the curve xd i go out to talk a walk sometimes these past week as i have some trouble sleeping you know when you barely move inside the house it is nice to go get some fresh air and stuff but social distancing is still a key and wash your hand protocol that february 27 2020 february 26 2020 pheatatojournal leave a comment so heyyyyyy guys as i have mentioned in my previous post i will talk about what i have been learning in my master these past months ps i will talk about my first semester recap experience and reflection as my second semester is only about to start in order words my internship i don t want to be dramatic because that s how i usually am and get straight to the point the first question i think should be what is my major or course am i taking for my master degree as a brief introduction to myself again for some of you who don t know me i am currently in a master 2 natural language processing program nlp now what is the different between master 1 and master 2 i tell you the only different is that master 2 refer to a second year of master degree while master 1 is a first year of master degree lol i just want to look a bit cooler by saying master 2 xd pardon me for that i have obtained an engineering degree last summer in computer science don t mind me here i just like to brag about my degree cr google now it leads to this what is natural language processing natural language processing or nlp is a computational linguistic field a mix between computer science and linguistic people it deals with digitalize or automation of language you can see it almost everywhere in your daily life now the famous example of nlp application would be siri alexa cotana google assistant etc these are a few example of speech tasks but nlp also deal with text tasks like text classification summarization machine translation and many more you don t have to a professional computer science or be really smart to learn this all you need is your determination passion and interest in this subject ps this is according to my understanding and not a scientific proof or research so if you think it wrongs please give me a feedback or comments so i can change and improve myself what i have learned well basically the course is about almost everything i brief you guys about we learned text processing speech processing formalism discourse and dialog neural network terminology and ontology sentiment analysis semantic lexicology and the obvious for me french through all those lessons and assignments and project we are able to have a theory ideas of most or even all nlp tasks and i said theory because even we have projects in those subjects it is not enough for us to learn as expert or professional and that s where internship comes in we applied what we learned in the first semester to our real world problems with enterprise or some may do research at the lab i obviously cannot talk in detail about what me myself personally take away from this first semester but i can say my skills have changed drastically i feel like i trained my thinking and problem solving skill in different way than i did in my bachelor because now i worked or practices involve data like training a neural network build a recommender system or build a knowledge base in my bachelor i worked as a web developer and mostly deal with making a system work and usually almost none to no data involve to me it is like 2 different side of work cr wordpress free media library what i mostly worked on during this past 6 months is nlp tasks related to text me and my friends work on toxic comment classification as our semester project and i worked on data pre processing tasks i also did spelling correction and word prediction in addition me and my classmates also did recommender systems language model for automatic speech recognition and data mining which to me really interesting there are other small practices and assignment which i didn t include here then for me personally i will apply these knowledge to build and ontology during my internship what is ontology by the way well this is another topic but i can say briefly that we use ontology to improve data management which is my department and also my internship topic as far as i know it uses description logic and semantic language to build though i don t have hands on experience yet we did build small ontology in our lab class using protege there we go a briefing about my february 21 2020 pheatatojournal leave a comment helloooo people from the title you all may know what i will be talking about i still can t believe that is has been almost 6months since i have been in france i also recently celebrate my birthday here with some of my amazing friends from this master degree and to all of them i am really thankful and lucky to have you as my friends life is so crazy and busy that it went by in a blink i am half way through my master journey now my time as a student will soon be over and to be honest i don t know what to feel right now i like the life as a student making friends doing assignments stressing out on project reviewing and failing exams i will surely miss the one night policy day and the time to bargain with all the lecturers and to all my lecturers you may not see this but i am thankful to everyone of you who tolerates my stupidity my not so funny jokes and your patient and commitment for teaching me and make me who i am today without all of your efforts i would never know algorithm neural network logic discourse etc i will also start my internship at pwc luxembourg in about a week this is one of my biggest achievement in my 22 years of living because if you were to ask me what i am gonna do with my life at this time last year i would still be completely lost i would never imagine studying in france and doing internship at the big 4 company guess you never know what happen until it happened so back to my experience in france 6 months is not that long but to me it seems like i have been here 10 years or so i remember the first day i arrive here in nancy where i do my master right now i can only understand oui and non asking where can i take a bus to my residence because i don t have internet lol compare to the live i have in cambodia this is totally out of my comfort zone not just the language but the faces of people the lifestyle the building the system especially the food and everything i feel like it is a restart button for me i started from 0 having no friends no plan my goal is just to learn and survive to go back but lucky me i have one of the best classmates ever we are totally very open and helpful so it didn t take long for me to make new friends my main problem is the course now is in english and i have to use english in my daily life right now i was nervous and completely lost around my first week at school if you really see my face during that time it s like i just came out of the mountain somewhere that have no interaction with the world however i feel better and at ease once again since i have adopt to school life quickly and also having nice friends that i can count on french is the language here so for me it caused quite a problem like i need to have friend come with me to do some paper work because some of them cannot speak english there is this one time i have to call my friend in cambodia who speak french to translate for me and the person lol it was chaos so if any of you reading want to come to france please do not repeat my mistake and work hard in your french class i am still impress at this country even i have been here half a year already the architecture is one of a kind and even though the town i am living in is small compare to the giant city like paris it still has its own beauty and uniqueness to it i came from the capital city phnom penh with many people and lots of vehicle many skyscrapers with a little touch of history nancy is somehow has a lot of that old european building located in the east of france with mountains and hills it gives me a more quiet and calm vibes which is different from where i am from there are also many parks here which i can go take a walk for some peace and relaxation in my mind though i wish shops would close 2019 december 31 2019 pheatatojournal leave a comment well how do i start my blog hello or like the youtubers do welcome back to my blog anyway that is not important this will be my first and last blog post in 2019 and also this decade talk about 2019 this year has been a wild roller coaster ride to me many lessons learned many experiences gained but most importantly i ve made many friends not just friends i have also made memories with them how do i put that to words the journey is one that cannot be easily put into words overall 2019 is by far the best year of my entire 2 decades on this earth i am now about 9 669 from home phnom penh nancy i do want to say i miss home by home i mean my family friends and food back home not everything d now 2019 is going to end soon and so as this decade i wanna do a reflection and look back to myself in 2009 i remember being in 7th grade i was a naive stupid kid back then i knew nothing about the world thinking it was always good i do get to make a lot of good friends though it was both a painful and memorable year i half of the time crying at home mostly because no one would play with me it was my first year to see my hard work paid off at school to close this chapter i wish to only keep a happy memories from now on i don t think holding on to sad memories will do me any good from now on in 2014 i remembered vividly inside my head it s one of the toughest year for me our national exam got reinforced many students failed the grade 12th national exam those who passed can barely passed yeah it s that dramatic i was among the lucky one to pass though with bad grade it was already a blessing to me after the exam i decided to go to engineering school one of the most prestigious school in cambodia and it was hard to get in like you have to pass the entrance exam with 1 3 of the candidate get pick i almost didn t make it but still with my luck i got in life in university is a 180 degree different from high school in high school i have a group of good friends to hang out with to do silly stuff with i don t have to worry about career just go to school study and have fun in university it was a little war for me some people being a pussy that when you asked them to help explain stuff to you they would brush you off and said they don t know when in fact they are among the top student in the whole promotion yes my first 2 years in the university was not good for me i was never the good student my famous trait is that i always late to class or absent after 2 years in foundation year i started my major in computer science it engineering it was a whole epic 3 years of my life as a class monitor of the class i got to interact a lot with not just the teacher but everyone we are one happy class and asshole at the same time we would be on the same page when it comes to make fun during the lessons the most difficult time is only when it s group work only 1 person in each group would do it though i sometimes avoid group works there are most of the time i am that one person that have to do it which is suck my bachelor years came to an end very quickly it was yet another time to look at the future i was in dilemma between continue to study or work it has always been my passion to get a post doctoral degree but with my family situation my mum already did her very best to provide me until i finished university i must pass a scholarship to continue study or i have to work so to follow my dream and heart i applied for the french government scholarship it was not an easy steps and the candidate were all so good towards the end of may 2019 a few weeks before the result released i already lost hope so i told myself it s fine though i knew i was really depressing fortunately i passed the scholarship after i got the scholarship there s another hard time come to look for admission because i thought i wasn t going to get the scholarship i didn t look for any admission thankfully to my lecturer at universite de lorraine i am here in nancy france right now therefore i can now proudly say i made it to france i said this in my first year at the university though my life until this day is not always easy i really appreciate everything that happened in my life it was indeed a lessons and it s made me today a young computer scientist and a proud daughter to my mum i can say that i close this one big chapter of my life and decade in france can t wait to face new challenges and grow in the upcoming new year time does fly fast that you have to cherish every moment happy new year to all and good luck
