events friday january 29 2016 arctic snowman pre school kindergartners arctic snowman winter is not over yet in the north west basic snowman this one was a big hit with the kids what you will need low tack tape tempera paint white or opaque glitter yes i said that dreaded word watercolor paper snowman stencil i cut stencil s out of manila folders penciles paints brushes glue buttons start by taping all sides of watercolor paper have the kids paint blue over the entire surface blot with rag or paper towels this will speed the drying process with a pencil have the kids trace the snowman using white tempera paint paint the snowman and background make sure your snowman is grounded or anchored into the snow see samples now using the eraser side of the pencil dip it in white paint to make snowflakes let dry remove tape next i give the kiddos a bit of freedom how they would like to personalize their snowman a few basic tips i have the kids draw with pencil where the eyes scarf hat buttons and mouth will go then paint i talk about how to choose a brush how to draw a hat using simple shapes add any embellishments you wish buttons glitter i think this kiddo is going to be a pop share from summer art camp another summer camp project flip flop fun the kids made and decorated their flip flops any way they wanted then glued them on a beach back drop made on canvas we used real sand for the beach and shaving cream mixed with white acrylic paint for the waves i posted the template for the flip flops the kids had a ball and the flip flops almost fit their feet first step paint the top portion of a 11x14 canvas board blue the bottom brown i prefer where the ocean meets the sand on and angel makes the composition more interesting set project aside to dry meanwhile have the kids use markers to decorate their dlop flops i used a template to print out flip flops on white card stock see bottom of post for template i used bright colored pipe cleaners for the flip flop bands i brought in different kids of beads for the kids to thread the pipe cleaners as the kids finished their flip flops i called them over to a station were we painted the dry brown beach surface with glue and sprinkled real sand almost as fun as glitter but easier to clean up no beach is complete with out shaving cream waves mix a little white acrylic with some shaving cream on a paper plate and let the kids mix it for a few of my younger artist i drew a few wave lines for them trace for the final touch we glued on shells flip flop template posted by susan at 6 19 pm 0 comments email this balloon to sit tear or cut scrap paper into strips or squares spray top of balloon lightly with cooking spray for easy release using gloss paper mache or mod podge paint a layer of mod podge on balloon then paint strip of paper repeat for each strip using your brush to flatten down each layer important if your paper pattern is one sided lay the first layer upside down covering entire bowl then apply a second layer right side up your pattern will be on the inside and outside of your finished bowl waiting for bowls to dry takes a few days after bowls are dry pop the balloon peal balloon
