academic disciplines in a discussion about the challenges and remarkable transformative potential of our time read more finance and the far right inga rademacher rademacher challenges the portrayal of far right economic policies as erratic by systematically analysing their financial strategies across eight advanced economies drawing on a new database of far right policy positions and legislative initiatives she finds a coherent but under examined project far right parties do not seek redistributive or regulatory financial reform but rather aim to reassert state control over capital accumulation without undermining property rights not unlike the interwar models of state authoritarian capitalism these parties plan to use selective planning to protect domestic capital suppress democratic constraints and forge alliances with loyal economic actors offering a project distinct from both neoliberalism and post war interventionism 28 may 2025 rubric 5 view all articles disability benefits as a neoliberal institution emily ruppel more americans than ever before receive disability benefits but benefits recipients face pervasive precarity specifically the organization of disability benefits incentivizes employment in the part time low wage jobs which proliferate under neoliberalism benefits thus serve as a neoliberal institution producing precarious workers and the author argues should be reformed to promote security and opportunity for people with disabilities 28 march 2025 rubric 1 the allure of authoritarianism and the future of democratic politics gerard delanty not only are liberal democracies challenged by authoritarianism but various kinds of dictatorships are a seemingly irreversible part of the world today the situation is now so bleak especially due to the trump 2 presidency that it could be reasonably argued all that can be hoped for at present is to protect the gains already made and to defend international law i argue that progressive politics needs a more radical ambition to challenge authoritarianism 14 february 2025 rubric 2 can the global south prosper while the neoliberal order is on edge anastasia nesvetailova herman mark schwartz as the current geopolitical economic order is unraveling it is apparent that neither manufacturing nor export led growth nor relative global security have managed to deliver widespread wellbeing with their disappearance the prospects are even grimmer for a new pathway to emerge innovative approaches to structural transformation industrial policies financial governance and climate crisis are essential 29 october 2024 rubric 6 how the taxpayer myth gives life to the neoliberal agenda eric tymoigne the taxpayer driven narrative is not only politically reactionary and mentally stifling but also reflects an incorrect understanding of federal government finances economic facts and logic a monetarily sovereign government must tax but a tax policy should be set independently from a spending policy what that means in practice is that tax rates should not be set with the aim of balancing the budget they should be structured to achieve the public purpose 08 october 2024 rubric 5 maga the job guarantee and post neoliberal public knowledge jakob feinig the surge of far right populism is enabled by a particular form of public knowledge one shaped by the assumption that we are all part of a mechanism we can neither understand nor change the market an effective counter strategy is to cultivate forms of economic knowledge that enable democratic publics to think about prices money and work as malleable forms of collective organization that they can steer towards a shared and inclusive welfare 20 december 2024 rubric 3 rubric 1 what is ailing the 99 percent latest
