ound to argue with that blame it on nestle and modern childbirth and whatnot currently at 10 months linden is getting more formula than breastmilk because she seems to have lost interest in nursing this is definitely a chicken egg situation is she not nursing because there s not enough milk or is there not enough milk because she s not nursing i guess i will never know the answer to that but we are actively albeit slowly weaning and that has stirred up a ton of emotions in me relief sadness anxiety rejection to name a few i know breastfeeding experts say that it s very rare a child weans before age one and if they do it s because they ve been supplemented with formula but i truly believe linden is ready it s sad because well she s growing up and changing and it feels like she doesn t need me anymore but also kind of cool because i didn t have to entirely make the decision for her a couple of final thoughts i wish feeding one s baby was not made out to be such a black and white issue it s not formula at one end and breastfeeding on the other but rather a long continuum on which most mothers fall i d venture to say that there are many many moms like me who do both in fact we re probably the majority everyone s circumstances are different and when it comes down to it all i m trying to do is feed my kid not make some sort of statement about what kind of mother person i am breastmilk formula goat s milk magic juju juice who cares i can honestly say that i have zero judgment when it comes to how other mothers feed their children truly ok so maybe i judge when i see a little kid housing some mickie ds but even then it s not like linden is never going to experience a happy meal i guess what i do take issue with is how divisive and at times dramatic the conversation weren t for these monthly updates you d be hard pressed to find me round here at all anymore i ve completely lost my blogging mojo not sure if it s all that s been going on with moving and such a momentary lack of interest or something bigger but i m not feeling it and that sucks because i want to feel it i need to keep writing in my life more than ever right now any ideas as to how to get my ass back on the blogging train anyway thank god i took notes about linden s 8th month because otherwise i d be totally making some shit up since it was so long ago two months in babytime is like 25 years a lot happens in two months is what i m saying 8 months was hard that i know for sure we were basically homeless we moved out of our tiny belmont bungalow and into another even tinier belmont bungalow only for 2 5 weeks thankfully that we affectionately called the hippie hovel due to its charmingly crunchy vibe linden checking out the book selection at the hippie hovel the hh was a one bedroom meaning we said goodbye to sleep holy shit that was rough i know it was mainly due to us being in the same room and the change in living situation but i think l also went through a sleep regression wonder week in that same time period which was a double whammy of awesomeness lord i haven t been that delirious since the 4 month sleep regression linden also perfected her crawling and her pulling up girlfriend officially became unstoppable we thus spent a lot of time out doing things because an extremely mobile baby and a 500 sf cottage do not mix mirror fun at the richmond children s museum we visited our friend sara at the richmond children s museum which had this awesome play area for babies and spent another day with my mom in richmond at maymont park we went to the pool a few times had a couple of play dates with my mom s group went for a hike in shenandoah national park where we got in trouble with the nfs for having chloe off leash in the parking lot where she had just jumped out of the car grrr visited a winery went to the gym went to target twice i know this sounds like some sahm life of luxury but i assure you these were measures i needed to take to stay busy aka stay fucking sane it was really hard staying in a non babyproofed house in which l would not sleep i m telling you crazytown l sees her first bear at maymont park swimming at washington park pool hiking in shenandoah national park after checking out of the hippie hovel we spent a few equally rough days at my mom s no sleeping there either before heading to heaven ahhhhhhh we all know that babies need routine to feel safe and secure and the same is true for me i don t function well without my own clean organized and stable environment i had a few not so pretty breakdowns despite knowing that all of this was just temporary someone posted an article about how moving can traumatize a baby under a year old for life on my mom s group facebook page and i freaking lost it we re talking major mom guilt that i was ruining l s ability to have meaningful relationships later in life yes the article actually said that moving a child would do that anger at the housing market in this town for putting us in this situation to begin with and of course a big ass dose of sleep deprivation making everything seem a gazillion times worse than it probably was ugh though wouldn t you know it it was all just temporary we are now nice and settled into our lovely new home about which i ll write very soon it s clean organized and stable mama s happy linden s happy things are on the up and up from my notes l finally got some teeth her bottom two poked through at the beginning of july loves waving and clapping almost mastered her pincer grasp still breastfeeding with a formula and or pumped bottle at night tried some dairy and it did not agree so we re still dairy free can t believe it s been almost 6 months without cheese transitioned from three to two naps a day likes strawberries balls sunglasses watching videos of herself ripping paper sticking everything in her mouth the beach second to she s so small the comment i get most is how alert linden is i think what people mean when they say that is how i don t know mature she sort of looks expressive maybe a lot of babies her age seem really babyish kind of just chubby little blobs but there s something about linden that s very child like of course i m her mama and will say this regardless but she s very bright that peanut does not miss a beat she is tuned in to everything despite it being such a rough month i am really loving this age her personality is becoming so apparent she s energetic independent easygoing sweet and just a little mischievous and spunky too i hope that it s not true that we ve screwed l up for life with all the change and instead made her more adaptable and able to roll with the punches p s a little note more for myself l turned 9 months on july 24 i generally write updates at the end of the month not on the day she turns that monthly age i e not on june 24 when she turned 8 months but on july 23 at the end of 8 months 8 months old linden s first beach trip july 27 2013 rosie 4 comments hello hello we have been here there and everywhere for the month of july as i mentioned did i mention we moved out of our old house on june 30 but can t move into our new house until august 1 essentially leaving us homeless for 31 loooooooooong days to say it s been hard is an understatement although the rest of this post will hardly have you crying for me argentina we rented a tiny little cottage in belmont for 2 5 weeks stayed a few nights at my mom s and then decided there was no better time to hightail it out of town down to my happy place the outer banks of north carolina it was my 30th time to obx kevin s second and most exciting of all linden s first l s first dip in the ocean she was a little unsure we really needed this trip though when do you not need an obx trip as it s been a stressful few months it was so amazing to spend time with my little family no worries no drama just days of cute baby in a bathing suit we rented a house in avon which is on hatteras island the first time kevin and i went to the beach together we drove all the way from colorado can you believe that shit we also stayed in avon it s probably my preferred town on the island because it s centrally located but i ve stayed in all of them and they re all awesome let me just state the obvious beaching it with a baby is a whole new ballgame first of all there s no just tossing a towel over your shoulder and plunking down on the sand oh no it is a full on production getting ready for beach time and sometimes the prep time surpassed the actual time we spent on the beach the biggest issue was the big ass dune we had to traverse we had two ways to get over it the first was more direct but there was no wooden walkway just a thick sandy and hot path the second had a partial wooden boardwalk but stairs and was a little farther away the first day we loaded up the bob stroller with our entire freaking beach house cooler sand toys sunshade towels blanket beach chairs baby well let s just say that was the first and last time we utilized the bob for a beach buggy exhibit a below kev dragging over 40 lbs across sahara desert like conditions yeah good times eventually we just made multiple trips with one of us going down early and setting up chairs and umbrellas during l s morning nap then just carrying l in our arms once she woke up it still felt like a lot of schlepping my back and feet were sore from walking in that thick sand but was a much better system second to the big ass dune issue or perhaps even with was the shade issue baby on the beach fair skinned redheaded mama shade was a definite non negotiable we upped our shade game prior to the trip with the purchase of a large kelty sunshade like the kind we had seen all the families using at the telluride bluegrass festival oh it looks like k and l are enjoying the cool shade here doesn t it this picture was totally posed just to show what could have been well hatteras ain t no telluride bluegrass festival this shade was obviously not made to withstand the beach and the accompanying wind and the poles broke as soon as we put it up super huge major beach shade fail so we went back to old school umbrellas and promptly lost one of them in the wind we finally bit the bullet and bought a heavy duty umbrella and that finally worked out for us umbrellas riveting i know another brilliant idea was bringing an inflatable pool down to the beach l loved playing in it and it was great having the water there to constantly wash sand off her hands and mouth she got a kick out of her sand toys and we d fill up the buckets with water and let her splash in them such good sensory play the ocean was too rough to actually take her into it though who knows if i d been chill enough to actually let that happen my best childhood memories are of our trips to the beach we didn t travel much together as a family but we always managed a trip to the outer banks all these years later i still get a thrill doing the same things i did down there as a kid and even when i lived there in college if i m being honest i want linden to have good memories of family vacations of the rituals and the things we always did i of course hope it s the outer banks for us but i also hope it s colorado too oh and sayulita mexico i tried to incorporate a lot of those things into this trip crab pickin was one of them taking the ferry over to ocracoke island was another at first i wasn t too into the idea as the trip over can consume a whole day and i didn t want to try to deal with naps all the packing schlepping etc but it ended up being a super windy beach day no bueno with a baby and linden was completely enchanted with all the sea gulls and i knew there would be seagulls a plenty on the ferry so to ocracoke we went though she didn t go as ga ga over the birds as we hoped linden did seem to enjoy the ferry ride she didn t nap of course but i couldn t blame her i bought this outfit specifically for her first beach trip i died many times over its adorableness other than the first night when i was so excited to be at the beach i drank almost an entire bottle of white wine out on our deck ouch we went to bed early every night a definite departure from my early beach going days while l s night sleep was nothing to write home about as you can imagine her sleep has been off this month due to being in new places i m carrying some serious guilt over this right now her naps were nice and long when they happened i think we ve finally transitioned to two naps a day but more on that in one of her updates the beach action definitely wore her out aside from beach time crab pickin and the trip to ocracoke we ate a few dinners out watched the sunset every night from our deck met up with an old college friend who was also staying in avon and took all our showers outdoors there is nothing like the refreshing feeling of washing beach grime off in an outdoor shower especially with a cold beer our obx trip definitely got me excited for the beach trips ahead there s only so much you can do with a 9 month old but as linden gets older we ll be able to do more adventurous things like drive out on the beach to fish for the day kiteboard kayak have bonfires on the beach and see the lost colony which my parents made me suffer through and which i ll make l suffer through as well i m also looking forward to group trips with family and friends so that linden has cousins and friends to play with it was fun with just the three of us but will be even better with more people to share it with oh and one final thing it was our 3 year anniversary and l s 9 month birthday on the trip we ve spent every anniversary at a beach so far hope the trend continues linden s first beach trip 7 months old july 2 2013 rosie 6 comments hi y all i m 7 months old not to say that 7 months was uneventful but looking back at the number of pictures i took last month it sure appears that way part of my lack of documentation was due to crazy times in personal land trying to find a new house ugh and part due to this little chica being on the move and not sitting still ever we officially have a crawler i ve heard that the wee ones crawl earlier than their chunkier counterparts and this is certainly the case with my little peanut l she s already pulling up too with remarkable steadiness it s kind of blowing me away she s so tiny not to sound all my child is so amazingly gifted because no i m just telling you what she s doing at 7 months also y all know i love a little parenthetical side note o preachiness so here it is can we all just give ourselves a break with the comparison game it sort of sucks not bei...
