it stood there with the bishop now i wrote out what the bishop said with my thoughts in italics because my brain was racing so fast and that s the funny part keep in mind that all these thoughts went through my head as the bishop spoke at a perfectly normal pace bishop hello hendricksons good to see you gee the executive secretary didn t mention that anyone else was coming i d like to introduce you to president matthews president president must be elders quorum hah ross is getting a calling he s our stake president what stake president stake calling no way the stake leadership can t possibly know who we are yet president matthews is also in our ward wait really and i spoke last week my heart is racing i must be getting a stake calling pleasant how do you do s and nice to meet yous commenced we invited them in an proceeded with about five minutes of small talk well ross and i must have looked like deer in the headlights because the president smiled and seemed to be inwardly laughing as he explained that he had run into the bishop as they were both walking out to their cars and since the president s appointment had cancelled he decided to join the bishop and visit us he emphasized that he was just tagging along and that it was all just a coincidence phew what a releif well that was a cruel joke to play so back to the normal amount of anxiety and what is the bishop here for now seriously i hope they both enjoyed the panic they knew would result in having the stake president tag along on a meeting such as this but in case you are wondering it was me who got the calling i was asked to be the relief society secretary and you know what i am perfectly happy about that this calling is just what i need right now oh and i blame ross for all of this he strongly encouraged me to attend a rs activity a couple of weeks ago which i thoroughly enjoyed and ended up sitting with the rs president for quite a while we hit it off really well and i like her a lot i guess she thought i was a nice person too d posted by megan at 9 39 pm 1 comment sunday june 23 2013 church y things a couple of weeks ago i spoke in sacrament meeting in our new ward i thought i would share that talk with y all just because fyi if you don t want to read the talk you can scroll to the bottom and see some pics of our boys enjoy nearer my god to thee this month as we honor our fathers and reflect up our relationships and love for them i would like to take a moment to reflect of our relationship with our heavenly father each of us have had moments perhaps long moments of feelings of separation even the savior of the world when he was on the cross felt his father far from him and then there are times when you feel the closeness of god your father and that you are his beloved child those times can come more often if you want to stay close to someone who has been dear to you but from whom you are separated you know how to do it i have best friend who has been my best for nearly 20 years for the past 10 years we have not lived near each other until now she lives in west des moines only 30 minutes away and you know what we are still best friends we are like giddy little school girls who want to play everyday because we are so excited to live so close to one another again and how did we do it how did we keep our friendship alive first you find a way to speak to them second you listen to them and finally you discover ways to do things for each other the more often that happens the deeper the bond of affection if much time passes without the speaking the listening and the doing the bond weakens god is our father he loves us and he offers the same opportunity to draw closer to him as would a loving friend and you do it in much the same way speaking listening and doing he has said draw near unto me and i will draw near unto you seek me diligently and ye shall find me ask and ye shall receive knock and it shall be opened unto you d c 88 63 prayer is the means by which we speak to our heavenly father the lord has said pray always and i will pour out my spirit upon you and great shall be your blessing yea even more than if you should obtain treasures of earth d c 19 38 president eyring has counselled we must pray regularly in words and continually in feeling as you pray you must seek to align your will with god s indicate your faith and trust in his answers try to recall what commandments the blessings for which you have asked are predicated upon and listen now you and i need to listen with great care there are several ways which god can speak with us he may speak directly to your heart or he may speak to you through the scriptures finally he speaks to you through the voice of latter day prophets it is the spirit which will bear record to your heart as you read the scriptures as you listen to the prophets and as god speaks directly to your heart you can listen and hear if you believe as you listen make a commitment to pay the price to do the thing that your request is predicated upon finally you must act after you have listened because when you hear his voice by the spirit you will always feel that you are impelled to do something how often do receive an answer to our prayers but do not truly hear it because we do not like it it has happened to me and i hope i am not the only one when i was almost 21 years old i was trying to decide what to do with my life how to continue my education my father kept prodding me to go on a mission but i simply didn t want to i had other good goals and dreams about my education and temple marriage but i also didn t feel like i was receiving any answers to my prayers for guidance one day my dad was very blunt and told me i was kicking against the pricks that i night i knelt in prayer with a much more open heart and did receive the answer that i should serve a mission there was only one problem i still didn t want to if you ever find yourself in this situation i give only one counsel continue in prayer maybe for for days or weeks pray not that the lord will change his mind but that you will have a change of heart and that your desires will come into alignment with god s will for you this is what i did my prayers were answered and i served a most rewarding mission sometimes we feel that instruction seems accompanied with rebuke you might prefer that god simply tell you how well you are doing but he loves you he wants you to be with him and knows you must have a mighty change in your heart through faith repentance and the making and keeping of sacred covenants that s why the proverbs record this my son despise not the chastening of the lord neither be weary of his correction for whom the lord loveth he correcteth even as a father the son in whom he delighteth prov 3 11 12 you will find something else in the pattern of correction you have felt do you notice how much of it is an urging to do something for someone else that is no surprise god loves his children we have great needs everything belongs to god so there is not much you can give him but you can give kindness to his children i have two wonderful little boys and if you were to be my earthly friend you would win my heart by being kind to my children god loves his children more than any earthly parent so think what your kindness to his children means to him the day will come when before we left colorado my wonderful artistic friend brandi took some photos of the boys while she was babysitting for me she passed a cd of them to me during church just before we moved and i ended up packing it without even looking at them little did i know that the pictures she had taken were awesome i m even printing some to hang as new portraits in our house thank you so much brandi i certainly did not give you enough thanks when i received the pictures but they really are wonderful posted by megan at 6 20 pm 1 comment tuesday june 11 2013 iowa ha ha i should stop making promises of updating more often but here is a long awaited update we made it to iowa it was quite the adventure from loading the truck over the course of two days and ross falling and twisting his ankle to actually trying to drive through three states with two toddlers a moving truck and a tow dolly to finally arriving finding our property manager getting keys to a condo we had never seen and unloading the truck quite frankly i don t recommend any of it but it was an adventure everything has turned out great though we love our new house ground floor condo actually it was only recently built and we are the first people to live in it the only drawback is that the landscaping is not done yet but the boys certainly don t mind seriously who needs a sandbox when you ve got huge piles of dirt to climb and dig in we have also enjoyed living close to becky ryan and ellie lucky for becky and i superman and ellie i feel like she should have a superhero name too get along great and have become good little friends we have had lots of fun with them at the children s science center and exploring the new parks we have also been getting lots of rain so much that things never seem to dry out so one of favorite activities of late is puddle jumping and mud play batman especially loves the mud superman thinks it fun but doesn t like getting messy so it doesn t work out so well for him yeah these muddy toes were just too cute not to share ta ta for now p s we have some cute video clips of these guys too but i haven t pulled them off my phone yet so you ll have to come back and check those out later posted by megan at 2 17 pm no comments thursday april 18 2013 my new borg designation is 7 of 5 hello my friends we are back we ditched the other blog cheeseandwhiskers com and came back to the true and faithful blog we started just after getting married don t ask why there s really no reason what s really important here is that i m planning on blogging and sharing what s up with us more often yeah it s been almost a year since our last update even on that other blog and well that s just not really acceptable our kiddos are growing and changing so fast we ve got to start documenting it better not to mention that ross and i do new and exciting things occasionally too for example we re moving to iowa next month this is move number 7 in 5 1 2 years yep aand if you get my completely nerdy borg designation reference in the post title you are awesome yeah i know that the numbers really come from how many borg are in their unit and such a more appropriate designation might be 2 of 4 or something but that doesn t really matter since it s all fictional anyway anywho i digress a lot back to relevant information ross is still working for webfilings com and we are transferring out to their corporate headquarters in ames ia this is a good move for everyone involved good for ross s career and good for our family iowa is a good and much less expensive place to raise a couple of boys plus i ll finally be able to go back to nauvoo haven t been back since my mission we ll only be a few hours away and i love the mid west and i ll be only 30 minutes or so from my bff becky those of you who don t know should know that i am becky s oldest and bestest friend and she mine we go way back to those nasty middle school years we ve already found a place to live in ankeny halfway ish between des moines and ames and we are starting the dreaded packing we are even going to have our first ever hendrickson family yard sale in a couple of weeks i m actually kinda dreading it it seems like it will be a lot of work but ross assures me that it will be easy uh huh right and worth it ok i agree with that part in other news superman is 3 years old now and growing into an eager to learn family of ours first here are some family portraits we recently had done batman is almost 6 months old i can t believe how quickly he is growing he rolls over scoots around on his tummy could probably sit on his own if he would hold still long enough and just got his first tooth superman is 2 now and loves everything a two year old boy should love running jumping climbing kicking he is always on the move he is talking more and more every day and even learning his letters ross recently got a new job which will start in june so we are moving in fact we are moving next week we found the perfect rental house in the castle rock rental houses instead of apts are rare so we snatched it up as quick as we could even if it does mean an earlier moving date so for about 3 weeks ross will be living in boulder for part of the week in order to finish all his classes one last thing megan is having fun playing with blogs and websites so we will be introducing a new family website soon posted by megan
