nday august 11 2014 in case of your untimely death o captain my captain our fearful trip is done the ship has weather d every rack the prize we sought is won the port is near the bells i hear the people all exulting while follow eyes the steady keel the vessel grim and daring but o heart heart heart o the bleeding drops of red where on the deck my captain lies fallen cold and dead o captain my captain rise up and hear the bells rise up for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills for you bouquets and ribbon d wreaths for you the shores a crowding for you they call the swaying mass their eager faces turning here captain dear father the arm beneath your head it is some dream that on the deck you ve fallen cold and dead my captain does not answer his lips are pale and still my father does not feel my arm he has no pulse nor will the ship is anchor d safe and sound its voyage closed and done from fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won exult o shores and ring o bells but i with mournful tread walk the deck my captain lies fallen cold and dead walt whitman we live in a world consumed by idols and fame we hold so dear those who take the charge to try to entertain us we revere them put them on dangerously high pedestals and there they sit and there they stay some through the court of public opinion fall far and quick others stay and endure many tests of time today as many people make comments and share ideas at the death of one of these entertainers i surprisingly to even me feel the need to share my thoughts on this untimely death normally i do not find myself enthralled by celebrity but today the death of robin williams struck me in a different way many other celebrities have come and gone and to be honest i have not even considered their deaths this one is different for some reason his impact somehow more meaningful in my own life i have not ever met this man there was no delusion in my mind that any kind of meeting would have ever taken place i do not know him i am even willing to say that if given the opportunity to meet him i am not convinced that he and i would have anything in common or would even get along i can only assume that we are two very different people from extremely opposites views of the world my opinions of people is often based on a simple question would i enjoy a bbq with this person that is the barometer by which i often judge people it might seem to simplistic but that is the beauty of it it is simple either i would enjoy a bbq or i would not in the case of robin williams i can only assume he and i could enjoy a nice summer bbq the reason i assume that is for one simple reason that is the reason i even feel the need to write any of this tonight i appreciate one little important detail about this man that i would never have even met here is a man of great talent he possessed great intelligence and excelled in his craft and art that is something to uphold and be proud of in our day but even more importantly he was willing to share that talent with the world for that i am extremely grateful he was an entertainer he was brilliant he was profound from what most of the public knows he was a pained man he was human and human with flaws he struggled and had trials he had emotional pain and from all proof fought through that pain for me however most importantly he shared his talent through trial through difficulty through struggles he shared he created work of integrity and beauty movies that moved us movies that made us laugh such diversity in his craft seems quite rare yet he possessed this ability and mastered his art for that i am grateful i see daily those who possess greatness and let is go to the way side they possess the potential to create beauty or to expand knowledge and they out of fear out of worry hold themselves back they are unwilling to withstand the discomfort of letting their individual light shine i feel that world was made a better place due to mr williams and his willingness to share i did not know this man nor would i have ever but he has been a part of my life in my home he has entertained my and my family i have laughed i have cried i have seen new worlds and old worlds i have been forced to ask questions of life and death what a legacy of creativity he leaves behind i can only hope that he in just a small way could have an impact on others who stand waiting not yet being willing to put themselves out there holding back in fear to that i say let go be brave share your light with the world find peace find comfort find courage posted by from my eyes at 11 13 pm 1 comment thursday august 7 2014 reflections reflections that is what he wanted to call this i had suggested several other titles telling him that an artist usually titles his work he at first wanted to call it midnight light but i quickly reminded him that it was far from midnight when the photo was taken he laughed and chose reflections i was just happy with the opportunity to be out taking pictures of the moon that night a great crescent moon heading down towards the west i was even more happy with my son asking if he could come along that feeling however only intensified when he softly said to me dad come look over here i see it every where i look i see things in rectangle it is strange i know but i see rectangle images every where i look especially when i am in shooting mode but to have my son see it too that was pretty special it was a simple hey dad look over here but to me it was much more it was one of those rare nice moments when parenting just feels right not yelling about chores or homework no yelling at him to stop bugging his brother or sister i turned my camera around away from the crescent moon pointed it towards the ground aiming right for that little puddle i asked him what he saw and what he wanted he explained he liked how the light from the street light bounced off the water and he liked that one point where the light went right into his eyes i adjusted and pointed and showed him he simply said yep i asked again just to make sure he looked and nodded holding the remote in my hand i pressed down and listened with him for soft subtle click of the lens that happened several times as i adjusted and re adjusted showing him each time what the camera was looking at it really is his picture i only it has been a long time since you have used an account password reset blog re entered i realize that there is just too much going on inside my mind i know everyone thinks they are a great writer so we sit at our computers and write and write and hope somebody is reading for me it is a bit different i know i am not a writer i know that i have horrible grammar i always have i write as i see it in my head i write to get it out i write to find understanding and i write to find me there are so many voices so many writers i am not one of them i only need a place to say those things that i need to say eyes at 12 27 am 2 comments tuesday november 6 2012 november 2012 the following post is one of a political religious nature i choose to share my thoughts on the eve of a crazy election day 2012 any can choose to read or not with the presidential election being only a day away and with all the voices coming from so many directions i can t help but set my mind on a few thoughts and words that were written so beautifully many years ago for us in our day i have tried to minimize my exposure to the various media outlets as they bombard with ideas opinions lies and especially misinformation far too many voices yelling shouting demanding to be heard opinions are important and even powerful it is a good thing to see so many people try to raise their voice and be heard it is a good thing that so many want to be involved in this process and our tools and our technology make it amazingly possible for masses to put their words out there though to step back even for a moment is a comforting thing to do step back to have a stronger better vision of what is going on in our day a lesson once learned was simply this if i hold a paper to my nose i cannot see the writing it is far too close so in my attempt at stepping back i look to these words written so long ago and for us 7 and there were many in the church who believed in the flattering words of amalickiah therefore they dissented even from the church and thus were the affairs of the people of nephi exceedingly precarious and dangerous notwithstanding their great victory which they had had over the lamanites and their great rejoicings which they had had because of their deliverance by the hand of the lord 8 thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the lord their god yea how quick to do iniquity and to be led away by the evil one 9 yea and we also see the great wickedness one very wicked man can cause to take place among the children of men 10 yea we see that amalickiah because he was a man of cunning device and a man of many flattering words that he led away the hearts of many people to do wickedly yea and to seek to destroy the church of god and to destroy the foundation of liberty which god had granted unto them or which blessing god had sent upon the face of the land for the righteous sake i fear that there are many who seek to destroy the very foundations of liberty that they were entrusted to safeguard and to preserve and to keep i hope that we can be smarted than those who were taken by flattering cunning words the direction our nation goes is a direct reflection of the people if we have wicked leaders it is because we are wicked people if we want good and righteous leaders than that is what we must strive to be to show that we have not been quick to forget the lord i will go and vote tomorrow with a feeling of gratitude for that opportunity with my children by my side to show them the importance of citizenship and duty with a hope that by doing so i make my voice heard even if just slightly february 14 2011 even though i don t quite like the day i have made my dislike for valentines day quite a public opinion i get accused of saying things just for the response and i must admit i do like the strange looks that often follow when such a statement is made by a beloved day the truth is i really don t like valentines day i don t like the commercials that have been playing for some time now making all men look stupid and basing love off of whatever it is we might be able to purchase for a women even on the radio there are stories and ads for men to hurry up and get in before it is too late or order now to get it there one time we hear come on men don t be the only one to forget i really am not a fan there are far too many things in our media that are focusing on making men look stupid like blubbering idiots even as i sit here right now writing this jay leno comes on and his first joke is about guys forgetting valentines day i am not a fan of it at all yet i know those funny looks i get are more for sympathy for my wife my poor wife whose husband does not like valentines day so therefor he must not love his wife well ask her i am hoping she would be the first to tell you i love her everyday not just on feb 14th then there is the money part i have been accused of being cheap well guess what i am cheap i have a friend who complains all the time about not having money saying how little they have in their account then saw as her husband brings in a dozen roses just not practical so to my wonderful beautiful wife whom i do love i will buy you flowers on any other day when they are not double the price that my dear is how much i love you so much that i will try to be a bit more frugal so on this day that is supposed to be about love i will tell you the same thing i tell you every day i love you not just today but forever i love you not just the price of a flower or a box of chocolates but i love you so much that i will refrain from buying you more stuff that you don t need or want i love you so much that i will enjoy a night with you and our great kids just being near you i even love you so much that i will wash the dishes help with homework put the girl
