year old i feel like playing catch up wouldn t be complete with out adding our newest member of our family to our blog august 28th i started my day out like any other it was a thursday and kids were back in school paige started kindergarten and so carter and i tried to enjoy the time we had together before our baby kate was born i spent the morning feeling contractions but they weren t very consistent because i had a scheduled c section i called the hospital to find out what stage of labor they wanted me at before i came in they told me i d have to talk to the doctor so i called the dr office and asked them and they told me they wanted me to come in and they would do an exam i called shawn and we decided that we would go together i saw dr hoffman who i really don t like he pulled out the doppler and said that my contractions weren t regular enough so i asked another time where do i need to be in the stage of labor before i come it because of his way of practicing i don t think he knew what to tell me so we did a stress test and kept track of labor i had several contractions some so small that i didn t even notice i thought this whole thing was dumb anyway we went home with the answer that i needed to be having contractions about 5 minutes apart before i headed to the hospital i seriously dreaded the birth because i really don t like dr hoffman and now were going into the weekend where all the other doctors are off friday i kept my self busy i was able to do some cleaning and putting away of things and had no noticeable contractions all morning they started back up in the afternoon but i ignored them and kept on going i wasn t going to annoy myself with the fact that was going to have to deal with full labor when i really didn t have to go through it i was bugged i picked the kids up from school and we headed downtown to the farmers market we got cupcakes for the people at the clinic and fudge for home i look back now and laugh at the fact that i was having pretty constant contractions and yet i was at the farmers market i mention to lea who was my live in part time mothers helper that my contractions were getting closer together and they were also getting stronger but i didn t tell anyone else we all went home and i made dinner shawn got home and everyone sat down to eat i decided that i wasn t going to eat because i just had a feeling that i was going to be having this baby that night when shawn asked my why i wasn t eating and i told him he asked me why i hadn t mentioned it to him i didn t want him to leave work early or to be checking in on me every 10 minutes when there was nothing i could do but wait i finally decided that we needed to go to the hospital we chose to put the kids to bed and then leave it was after 8 30 this was so different than all our other births when we got to the hospital they set us up in a room and got all the monitors going i remember dreading the emotional roller coaster that was coming i just didn t know what to expect and that was a little unusual we monitored contractions for about 15 minutes when the nurse who was amazing told me she was going to call the doctor on call shortly she came back in and said that dr westbrook ordered something to be given to stop the contractions she couldn t see any reason i should continue with contractions when i was having a c section i was so released that dr hoffman wasn t going to deliver me but on the same hand i hadn t had a chance to meet dr westbrook she was new to the practice and newly out of residency the moment she walked into the room those nerves were gone she was truly an answer to my prayers she was so kind spoke so soft and had amazing bedside manor the steps to get ready for surgery are so mundane because i ve been through it several times already but the nervousness i feel and a little fright i have always amazes me i remember the staff talking me through every step so thoughtfully as if it was my very first time it was such a soothing environment that i didn t feel the fear of the surgery i usually do i remember when shawn joined me the nervousness i had went away also as dr westbrook started she told us exactly what was happening and spoke with such a sturdy calm voice little miss kate was born at 11 19pm weighing in at 6lbs 1oz and 19 25 inches long shawn told be she was little but he always says that because they seem so much smaller than our youngest when they told me she weight 6 lbs 1oz i was a little shocked we ve never had a little little baby the kids stayed with our friend meaghan for the weekend she brought them in to see kate saturday afternoon and they instantly fell in love with her kymber and shanna were so excited to meet kate too they were so cute coming to meet kate right before they all headed over to the cowboy s football game this picture makes me realize how little she was this was her first bath which they let me give her she didn t like it too much but who would we packed up and headed home on sunday afternoon i was so happy to get to take our baby kate home to be in our house shawn took the two weeks following kate s birth off from work so i was happy he was going to be around to help posted by heather at 1 55 pm 2 comments labels family heather kate new baby shawn thursday july 17 2014 jubilee days every year in laramie we have a jubilee days celebration we have the rodeo a parade the amusement rides come to town and there are 3 or so nights of street dancing with food and the like we were out of town camping last year but wanted to be here this year we went to the rodeo friday night the evening started with mutton busting for ages 3 8 under 50 lbs there were a few boys who rode really well but the arena was all mud so the sheep usually lost its rider as it was trying to keep its footing i had talked to carter before we went about this event and he was all excited to ride a sheep next year until he saw the event then he said he didn t want to do that i thought that i had taken a few more pictures during the actual rodeo but i must not have cause i don t have any here s a picture of us after the rodeo was all done the next morning we went to the parade it is probably the longest parade i ve been to start to finish was about 45 minutes and there was a lot of great floats and people in the parade the cowboys representing the cheyenne frontier days came and the chairmen for all the different events were all on horseback behind the wagon i can t remember this mascots name cowboy joe maybe the kids were happy to shake his hand and say hi he was walking with the uw cheerleaders an sports athletes then they had the old time tractors that every town has in their parade i liked this little tractor cause i d never seen one before the local reserves walked through also the special ops team had a soldier on both sides of the street shaking hands with all the children it was pretty neat to see them interacting with the kids we also had a pickle riding a bike it the parade never have seen that before they were from the store downtown called sweet pickles it s a specialty toy store that paige loves to visit from time to time when the parade ended with the street sweepers it was raining and we got a little we getting back to the car it was really fun and the kids enjoyed the candy they collected we will defiantly attend again and maybe next year the clinic will have a float and we can throw candy instead posted by heather at 4 46 pm 0 comments labels holiday kids it s been a long time it s been a long time since i ve done any blogging pregnancy does that to you shortly around the time of my last post i was blown into full fledged morning sickness and most every normal thing in life came to a halt so before baby gets here we are getting all the things crossed off our to do list one of those things is dental check ups carter had his first appointment on july 10 and was awesome emma paige and carter all had an appointment at the same time so emma went first to show him how things go and how it s is not scary he was so excited when it was finally his turn he had no issues with any of the instruments used and really loved the water and sucker tools he was good at opening wide and letting lexi do a full cleaning i m pretty sure he was smiling while she was cleaning ta da all done we had to drop something off at the office later that day and he was so excited to be back and so disappointed that he wasn t going to get to do it again now he asks when he gets to go back i m grateful he liked it and count my blessings that i have kids who actually like going to se the dentist posted by heather at 4 06 pm 0 comments labels carter kids wednesday january 15 2014 sledding with grandpa the cousins who live near the grandparents get to play on the sled in a fun way with grandpa all the time he hooks them up to his tractor and drives them down the lane swerving back and forth to make it a little more fun carter and mason got to take a turn driving the tractor and they had so much fun uncle dustin maddison and morgan came over to play with the kids they all had so much fun and shawn and dustin even got to take the tractor for a spin also the snow was melting and by the time they were all done playing the outsides of all their snow clothes we soaking wet they were pretty excited for hot cocoa time posted by heather at 12 41 pm 1 comments labels family idaho vacation salt lake city 2013 our christmas vacation began friday december 20 when we picked the kids up from school at noon we packed into the car and drove across a windy blown wyoming our goal was to get to salt lake city and take the kids to temple square we prayed and hoped for good roads which for the most part they were good but there were some slick spots in wyoming where the snow had blown onto the road way and caused for some ice to make the tire ruts in the road slick and a bit scary after we got to our hotel unpacked out bags a bit we piled on the snow clothes and headed out in the cold to catch trax we rode track 3 stops before we got to the temple it was so fun watching carter take in the experience of seeing and ride on a train he loves trains as always temple square was packed and was really busy we waited in line to get up to see the christus this year we didn t have any kids yelling just so they could hear their echo in the openness of the area of the christus we didn t stay too long because we knew our time with carter was short due to it being his normal bed time it had snowed in salt lake the day night before our arrival snow was everywhere and made things so beautiful we were here 2 years ago when carter was just a baby and our trip this time around was a bit quicker and we saw a lot less the light surrounding temple square always amazes me it s not just the lights from the displays but the light of christ eliminates there also i wish that i would have had more to mess with my camera settings and take more pictures it didn t like the night time and christmas lights together and more of my pictures are blurry the kids had fun in the hotel room it s always fun to have a tv in your room along with a bathroom that all 6 of us don t have to share when it was our time to leave to head up to idaho carter hitched a luxury ride on the rolling suitcase he was in heaven posted by to his 2nd birthday he is your average 2 year old he loves trains cars anything outside and swimming carter brings so much happiness laughter and excitement to our home and we are so glad he is part of our family while he slept for his nap his cake was created and hid carter didn t realize that it was his birthday until after dinner when we got out his gifts he had so much fun unwrapping his gifts and seeing what he got we skyped with grandma sanders while he opened her gift he was so funny as he opened each gift saying wow or oooo mason got carter some thomas the train bath paints carter kept looking at the trains and pointing to them he took a short break from looking at the paints long enough to open emma s gift she gave him some chuggington wooden trains which he was completely in love with as soon as they were opened paige got carter a fisher price basketball hoop and ball something i may regret letting her get i hope that when it warms up the basketball hoop can move outside he also got a wooden train set from us he was so fun to watch open his gifts i took video of him opening everything else so i don t have any still shots carter had such a grin on his face when we sang happy birthday to him he sang along at the parts he knew he blew out the candles on his cake in two blows and was so excited to see the trains on his cake we all had such a fun time celebrating carter
