scottie and matt scottie and matt 5 11 2012 lyla jean wrestling with jonah lyla and grandpa great i drove with her and jonah to cedar city by myself to meet scott she was great up until she needed to eat then she screamed the rest of the way not quite sure about her first experience with grass wrestling with her friend jake this may have not been consensual on his part snuggle time before bed jonah reading her a book she looks up to him obviously she likes to sit sideways in the shopping cart this might be a nervous smile meeting kelli jean for the first time she was pretty skeptical i feel bad that i haven t written as much about lyla as i did jonah that does not mean we love her any less here are a few things about her i don t want to forget she has never slept through the night the longest she has ever slept is 5 hours our goal is to make it through 365 sleepless nights that will be a proud mothering moment for me i ve tried sleep training her but it never lasts more than a few nights she could scream for hours on end if i let her i think she will have turned me into an insomniac by the end of this she is beautiful seriously a beautiful baby everyone comments on her eyes they re huge and nearly black she ll look right through your soul with those things she is shy and she loves me if i m around she wants me to hold her she is fine if she doesn t see me but at family parties she won t go to anyone but me or scott she loves scott too she gets so excited when he gets home from work he is the only other person she really feels totally comfortable with she blabbers all day long she s starting to experiment with more crazy sounds now and i love the baby talk she says the normal stuff like mama dada and baba but she also says weirder stuff i can t even spell she loves jonah she thinks he is hilarious if he s ever lying on the floor she crawls over to him and tries to wrestle she ll probably be pretty tough she is really aggressive with other babies she freaks out when she sees another one jonah loves her he gets so excited to see her when she wakes up from naps or when he hasn t seen her for a while i hope it lasts this is by far my favorite thing about being a mom i love seeing them love each other she is really snuggly she loves to lay her head on my shoulder i love it too melts my heart she pulls herself up to things but she hasn t started standing on her own or anything she is so tiny that i can t even imagine her walking yet she would look like a six month old walking she only weighs about 17 pounds and she is pretty short too she is generally a really easy going baby she does well in the car she is pretty good in church she doesn t cry about much but when she knows what she wants she is feisty particularly about nursing she is pretty much obsessed with it she eats fairly well but she always wants to nurse after she cries and cries until i finally give in she always has a smile on her face even if she is nervous about something she smiles i can tell the difference in her nervous smile versus her happy smile but everyone thinks she is happy to see them most of the time she is just cautious about if that other person is going to try to steal her away from me she is a snacker she doesn t like to sit down and eat a full on meal she loves real food like chicken rice beans peas cheerios bread pretty much anything she can feed herself she hates baby food the only stuff she ll eat is rice cereal with formula mixed in she loves going outside going for walks going to the park going to the store going going going anywhere she gets restless if we stay home for too long but she also loves it when we get home from anywhere we ve been she loves baby dolls she has one baby and one minnie mouse doll that she is obsessed with if i let her take them in the car it s like trying to pry them out of her cold dead fingers just to get her buckled in her car seat she screams if i take them away she screams with delight when she sees them she is really enthusiastic about things she likes or things she has never seen before i walked in her room this morning wearing a new shirt with neon colors and she sat there for a few minutes oo ing and aa ing over it whenever she sees something she thinks is cool she points to it and says oooooooo ooooo oooooo it is already so much fun to be her mom i can t wait to see what kind of little person she becomes she loves life now we just gotta work on sleep and liking at least her grandparents and the reason i never blog anymore is probably because i feel like instagram ing is enough so if you want updates on both kids more often follow me mattiejean posted by mattie at 3 20 pm 3 comments labels lyla 12 24 2011 and just because here are some random pics from the last few months mostly taken from my phone so sorry posted by mattie at 1 51 pm 8 comments labels family stuff holidays j man lyla 12 22 2011 the great storm of 2011 we had a lovely little wind storm a few weeks ago i m sure everyone saw pics of the damage our power was out for a day and a half so we left the house for some warmth our fence fell down and one of our big trees in the back yard started tipping it was pushing the deck railing into the house so we had to cut it down i don t know why but it made me really sad to see it gone it provided some nice shade in the summer so it will definitely be missed oh and when we got home one of our furnaces quit working it was an amazing weekend posted by mattie at 9 21 pm no comments labels new house thanksgiving this year we spent thanksgiving with the russells and the hesses and grandpa we hosted dinner at our house it was quite the feast complete with costumes a first ever but i m pretty sure it will be a tradition from here on out and something only the russells could pull off my first turkey trivia games and prizes and tons of food posted by mattie at 11 23 am no comments labels holidays 12 21 2011 first set of stitches it finally happened jonah got his first set of stitches at the first of november he trips and falls numerous times a day so i m really surprised it didn t happen earlier than that he was running tripped over his own feet and smacked his head right on the corner of the wall the skin just popped right open and within seconds blood was gushing down his face i think he was more concerned about all the blood than the actual wound itself there was blood everywhere i got it all wiped off his face and the wound cleaned out a little and i knew it needed stitches right away so i just took him to his doctor i probably should have taken him to primary children s because he s going to have a nice big scar oh well he and daddy will have matching battle wounds now despite his somewhat happy demeanor in the pictures getting the shot of anesthesia and the stitches in was nothing short of a nightmare i felt so bad for him they had to restrain him in a papoose to get him to hold still for the stitches and that just made the problem ten times worse he was screaming like i ve never heard him scream before he didn t calm down until the last stitch went in and only calmed down because the nurse was telling him stories about her silly puppies he got a new movie for all the trauma he went through we re suckers when he gets hurt which seems to be pretty regularly is it just a boy thing or what posted by mattie at 11 14 pm 2 comments labels j man oh boy i m so behind on posting but i need to do it so bear with me while i take you clear back to halloween sorry jonah was a cowboy again if you remember last year he wouldn t even wear the costume this year he asked to be one and could not be convinced to be anything else i already had all the stuff so that was fine with me lyla was a ladybug along with every other baby girl whose mother shops at costco and we didn t even carve our pumpkins we painted them this year i m sensing a theme with the laziness surrounding this holiday i didn t even match my kids costumes what a horrible mother jonah loved halloween this year and it was really fun to take him trick or treating and the weather was awesome he was so polite and said thank you to everyone then one house the lady gave him his treat and i said what do you say jonah he said i want more luckily the lady thought it was just as funny as i thought it was he is such a character posted by mattie at 11 00 pm no comments labels family stuff halloween 11 03 2011 those eyes when lyla was just born a stranger saw her and said skeptically wow your baby has really big eyes the tone of her voice made it sound like lyla was an alien or something i love her eyes they are big and beautiful her eyelashes curl up perfectly and i can always tell if she s happy by looking at them posted by mattie at 8 28 pm 6 comments labels lyla 10 30 2011 five years our fifth anniversary was last wednedsay october 26 i can t believe we ve been married five years five years seems like some sort of milestone and yet we kept it pretty low key we had fun though it was nice to go on a little date since that hasn t happened since before we had the baby scott brought home dinner and then my mom came over after the kids were in bed and we went to a movie it has been a crazy year a new house a new neighborhood new friends a new baby and some major family changes later we are happy some stuff that happened this year of our marriage was hard on both of us but we are glad we get to be there for each other i am sure thankful i have scott i told him that out of all the boys i ever dated was friends with or even knew i m really glad i ended up with him i am a lucky girl posted by mattie at 10 00 pm 2 comments labels marriage stuff 10 23 2011 a little about lyla this baby stole our hearts from the moment she was born she has the prettiest brown eyes the cutest chubby cheeks and thighs and a beautiful little smile i thought her entrance into this world would be a little more eventful since i was walking around dilated to a five but she really threw us for a loop it seems like she has thrown me for a loop every day since early pregnancy but that s okay from thinking i miscarried at least three times it was just a tear in the placenta to a 2am trip to the e r to at least four ultrasounds to make sure she was still a viable pregnancy to taking her sweet time in labor to smiling at six days old to screaming her lungs out the next minute she sure keeps us on our toes the morning i went into labor i had my membranes stripped at my doctor s office i was dilated to a five with no painful contractions so my midwife said basically the minute those contractions were five minutes apart i should come to the hospital she told me to mentally prepare myself for not getting an epidural in time because i was already half way dilated i was worried i would have a baby on the freeway since the hospital is 30 minutes from our house anyway i dropped scott off at work after my appointment turned the corner and a really painful contraction hit it was so painful that i turned right back around and picked scott up from work the contractions were painful and about four minutes apart so we rushed home packed our stuff and went to the hospital on the way to the hospital my contractions turned into little cramps but i did not want to have that baby on the freeway so we went anyway the nurse checked me and i had not dilated past five cm so they made me walk around for an hour i found a little ramp leading to an auditorium and walked up an down that for an hour making sure to dig my heels in going down so i could get that baby down a little further after an hour the nurse checked me again and she thought i was about a six so i could stay i think she may have lied a little but she knew how bad i wanted to stay and have a baby that day so basically from 1pm to 6pm i only dilated to seven cm and my contractions weren t strong enough to get me past that i had my two doses of antibiotic for the group b strep and then my midwife broke my water and i got the epidural at that point my contractions were still like cramps so i never really felt any strong contractions besides those first ones after my membranes were stripped i m pretty sure i wasn t in true labor but i was so done being pregnant and my midwife knew it the epidural did nothing to help the contractions so they gave me a little pitocin within an hour i was dilated to eight cm and the contractions were much stronger i guess my body just needed a little boost after the nurse checked me i started feeling really strong contractions and a lot of pressure she noticed on her register that my contractions were getting stronger so she came and checked me again five minutes later i was dilated to ten cm and ready to push i was so nervous for the pushing part because i pushed for a whole three hours with jonah my midwife assured me that it wouldn t happen again but i wasn t so sure i ended up pushing for 40 minutes it was amazing i m jealous of women who push three times and the baby just pops out but i was really happy with how the delivery turned out this time so much better than last time lyla jean made her debut at 9pm sharp she had the chubbiest cheeks and big beautiful eyes she latched right on and has been the nursing champion of the world ever since she doesn t really like many people besides scott and me if i didn t love her so much it would bother me but i secretly love it because i get extra time with her she struggles with sleeping she usually sleeps from 8pm to 2am but then she s up every two to three hours after that most nights it s fine with me because i just get a little extra time to soak her up she is extremely cuddly and she loves to nuzzle her face in to my nose when i lay next to her she sticks her face right in mine her eyes roll back in to her head and she falls asleep it s heavenly this girl has us all wrapped around her little finger she is the perfect addition to our crazy little family and we love her more than words can say posted by mattie at 7 03 pm 4 comments labels lyla older posts home subscribe to posts atom
