hard to keep the peace in my head ranging between counting my blessings of which there are so many to being shattered by how many personal external tragedies are everywhere near keeping tallies between the two doesn t seem right there s no clear way to balance this sort of thing anyway how can a blessing be measured against some tragedy does one wipe the other out or do all these things just have to live inside us it s what makes us human i suppose again i fault the media for making the outside stuff too available it becomes too tempting to click and click to hear about my ex neighbors brother and his awful misfortune far worse than any i have ever beheld their whole family is suffering while so many close to me are suffering too people i know and those i don t it s hard not to suffer with them on some level and yet my daughter and her young family are moving from the west coast near me today i have prayed for this therefore such a big part of me is joyful this is the human part that closes off the sadness and distress compartmentalizes all the awful stuff and seeks the happiness it glimmers through the darkness i grasp at it as i can in the quiet of my walks in the silliness of my cat in the love of those close to me and the peace i have found as i grow older i ve learned to look carefully for goodness actively put aside anxiety provoking people and situations it s left me alone much of the time but i am ok with this because the quality of time i have is peaceful and it is with those that i have chosen with care it has taken me years to discover these things and for this i am grateful so while i do at times feel like ozzy wanting to yell and bear my teeth at the world i usually like him next minute end up wanting pats and love from the humans i haven t been around much here since i can t post pics easily now and a lot going on at home it s not as convenient but here i am with yet a nutty story my wonderful albeit somewhat too busy cat ozzy always seems to get himself into some sort of mischief i adore him don t get me wrong my life would be much less interesting and i wouldn t feel as loved honestly but oh boy he s the most well cat cat i ve ever lived with i ve heard stories about cats being what they are aloof living on their own terms nosy 10 lives yada yada but this guy takes the cake he can leap buildings in a single bound he has zoomies like a dog then he can be loving looking at me with his big beautiful blue eyes as he insists on laying on my chest and ever so gently touching my face with his paw i swear he s got the soul of someone inside him he stares inside me it s wonderful but slightly creepy maybe he seems to adore me as much as i do him or is it that he s a food junkie i m not quite sure either way he s a barrel of laughs that is until a few nights ago when i was sound asleep tucked under my covers thank goodness cpap wrapped around my head double thank goodness when i am awoken by a loud noise of my bi fold door which i leave open for him to go though crashing open followed by a terrible racket it was the most awful and strange noises i quickly flipped on the light and proceeded to make terrible noises myself not quite a scream but something like it my partner sleeps upstairs and he sleeps like the dead so he didn t hear me i had no idea what i was looking at but i knew it was something i would soon regret there on the floor ozzy was chasing around a thing what was making chittery noises as it was flapping and scrambling and he was running around after it i soon realized that it was a bat are you kidding me earlier that day he had climbed my plant ladder and pulled a bunch down breaking things and spilling soil all over the floor bad ozzy i chided were these events related i later wondered here at 3 am i had no time to wonder instead i pulled the playful cat off the thing no easy task and put him unhappily in the bathroom the thing looked pretty sad traumatized and probably injured yet me being the great animal lover i am i figured i would try to set it free without touching it i captured it and put in outside on my porch i had by then decided to wake my partner because if i was up he should be to he was shocked by my whole experience but i had already handled it being the outdoors woman that i am not really by the time we looked outside it was gone oh good i thought maybe it was ok i let the cat out and he and the dog sniffed around a bit no one seemed worse for the wear that is until the next morning when i started reading and decided to call the nh fish and game department of course what i read the next morning was that i shouldn t pass go and immediately go to an emergency room for rabies shots since i was asleep and we didn t have the bat i was at risk of dying my cat luckily was only 7 months out of his rabies vaccine so probably ok but should probably get a booster fish and game said we should try to find the thing so they could test it what find it good luck with that we figured it flew away to be with its brethren but while walking the dog that morning we looked very hard all around the place i gave up but my partner persevered thank goodness because lo and behold clinging to the side of the house underneath the edge of the clapboards there it was it was in rough shape i m sure so i caught it once again in a tupperware container the conservation officer came to get it after a call where he fell in a lake poor guy not an easy job but it was kinda funny it took some of my anxiety of becoming a vampire down for sure he delivered it to the department of infectious disease then came the wait of course these things always happen on weekends and they are closed on weekends the stuff i read made it sound like we were under time constraints and that i would become rabid if i didn t get the shots within a short period of time so i was sweating it out i called on monday and got another amazing woman who worked there she said that she was wading through other jobs dumped on her desk and that she would call me back that night more sweating we had some laughs though it ended up she called me in the afternoon maybe because we laughed i don t know the good news was that i didn t have to put a coffin in our basement filled with soil from my native country and never go out at daylight again ie the bat was rabies free whew and the more i thought about it the more i realized that my wonderful kitty was bringing it into my room as a gift for me good boy not ps because the bat was rabies free neither of us need treatment final now because i can t easily post photos any longer it s a whole process now because of a new thing with google photos unfortunately it used to be a smooth process but alas no more nothing seems easy now with these big corporations due to privacy issues and such i guess i understand but it s sure inconvenient but it means i probably won t post as often since it s easier to do it on my other social media accounts that s where i turn to for quick downloads oh well ozzy and i still love to write things to our few readers so we will come here too when i feel i have the patience he s adjusting well in his new home more than well he runs the joint most days it s quite amazing how well he settled in and then just took over he sticks by me quite a bit which i admit i love his brother hank the dog and he haven t totally hit it off yet but they don t dislike each other either hank definitely would love to be pals but ozzy still isn t sure when the laser pointer comes out and starts flying around the floor they both want to chase it but bumping into each other causes confusion and hilarity with the humans i m sure that eventually they will be fine together eventually he s just such a multi dimensional cat i ve never been around one quite like him before kingly one moment then a maniac the next but he s loving and talkative and can be mellow now that he s comfortable and not much rattles him there are some nice fellows banging and sawing downstairs presently putting in our new floor in the basement it s bugging the heck out of me all the noise and disruption yet ozzy is just laying around like nothing is happening he s a calming presence for me maybe like one of those special animals folks get for support although never diagnosed i ve been known to be anxious animals help and this is a fact and i ve simply never known a cat like him he helps me so much like a friend or maybe better not asking much in return except for constant food supplies his love and attention fill me greatly and calm my soul his purrs and snuggles and goofy antics fill my bloodstream with lots of good endorfins thanks ozzy bear i adore you he s a most wonderful creature and my life is enhanced musings old stuff personal growth photos 70th not possible my beautiful mom and me yes i turn 70 today good grief my mom s birthday was 6 28 so we always celebrated together while i was living near her in florida this is from the last one we shared together it can be tough remembering it but also beautiful it s that darn cognitive dissonance slicing my brain in half again good memories vs the grief of her being gone from me on this earthly realm but it always reminds me about our reconciliation and friendship in the end despite all the many years that were basically lost in between we didn t have a very close relationship for most of my life although the love was there hidden deep within both our souls being together for almost 10 years in florida during her last years showed us both this i think it s easy to push away from our loved ones when we re younger healthy and doing our lives it s when we re more needy our bodies are giving out on us confused and more isolated that we begin to appreciate the most important things in life i learned that family whether it s blood or not is paramount not a job hobby money striving athletics or any of the other pitches we re led to believe it s those we hold most dear it can be a best friend or a furry creature all the rest of the stuff are simply the accouterments that add the spice without the love what would it matter what s the saying no one on their deathbed ever said they wish they had worked more but many have said they wish they had spent more time with their children or vacationing or having fun or loving i do wish i had spent more time with mom and i wish she had spent more time with my kids they didn t know her that well but what they knew they loved she was quite the gal we found each other when i was a toddler as luck would have it and my luck continues still because of her her wisdom and guidance lives inside of me many thought we looked alike and we would smile and say thank you who knows maybe her spirit slipped into me in a non conventional way after all she was a non conventional woman artist sculptor and moving us from nyc to the country into a converted barn i thank her all the time for my love of nature animals and the quiet of the earth so happy birthday to us both i should be as lucky as her to live as long she was 98 as she did love you mom adopted birthday children daughter you they found them you at some humane society or rescue my humane society where i have in the past found other kitties and my daughter got her dog keeps excellent records of the animals coming in this includes any records that came in with the pet from the previous owner who is releasing the pet for whatever reason i try not to judge there are good reasons a human may no longer be able to care for an animal maybe they died or are aging maybe the pet has become too aggressive maybe it s become financially a burden it s better they bring it somewhere than to simply let the animal go somewhere by the side of the road at least there s a decent chance it will be adopted especially in a no kill shelter there s plenty of those but still bringing your new furry friend just to make sure everything is in order and setting up with your local vet is a good idea so i did i had to anyway because this cat came with medical issues and i needed a prescription for food i couldn t get it without a doctor s signature even though all the vaccines and shots were pretty much all set i still had to go the place had given me enough food for the meantime but i didn t want to run out so off we went well after the usual struggle first i had to run all over creation to get a carrier big enough to get milly into the only ones i could find at first were the hard ones and at 16 plus pounds i didn t want to add to the weight i would already be carrying at the last minute before the visit i finally found a soft one and luckily got the only one big enough left whew it was a close call because it s no fun trying to have a loose cat in a doctor s office it was the usual battle getting a yowling beast into the thing but i managed and the yowling continued all the way there which thank goodness isn t far once there they couldn t find the reams of paperwork i had purposely delivered early so they would have it for the visit ugh they looked everywhere i was a bit bummed because i
