seriously sweetheart seriously sweetheart jeremy hears seriously sweetheart a lot from andrea tuesday august 18 2015 serious update it s been almost 2 years since we last wrote and it would be an understatement to say just a few things happened over the course of that time not sure we ll ever catch up but we ll at least try to keep up as best we can gwendolyn is almost 5 and about to start kindergarten she is still in speech and occupational therapy but has graduated out of aba therapy although she ll still get that support at school we re finally getting more original thoughts out of her and some are pretty hilarious she loves to make up songs and make her brother laugh she is a very good big sister and alexander adores her alexander has been our challenge the little monkey just won t eat so he s been on an ng tube since february to keep him alive the feeding tube is working to keep him alive and help him grow but he has a lot of catching up to do still he is the challenge child at his speech therapist s office where they work on feeding therapy with him he loves going and occasionally will cooperate however he doesn t always at home which is why we met with a surgeon this morning in the next few weeks he will be fitted with a button attached to a tube that will go directly into his tummy so we can do his tube feedings that way rather than dropping the tube through his nose each week which is traumatizing for him and really no fun for us either i ve gotten really good at it but it will be nice to not have to do that anymore other than the health issues he is a very active and otherwise healthy little boy he is extremely curious and bright it seems like each day he learns new words and skills yesterday he learned how to open the backyard gate and i had to chase down a naked 20 month old boy down our driveway he was playing outside with his sister in the pool in just a diaper and decided to ditch the diaper we got a lock for the front door as he s mastered opening that one already looks like we need a solution for the gate too not sure what we ll do once he learns to climb over the fence which is only a matter of time jeremy has since changed teams which has been a good change for both him and our family he does travel more in this role but he traveled a lot too when we lived in england but it s easier when he does travel now because we have family near and friends both from church and our neighborhood which are a good support also we have access to therapists and medical care we wouldn t have otherwise had if we had stayed in england and if we had moved to australia which was a possibility at one point that part is unknown what would have happened usually his travel is for less than a week so it isn t too bad he s also learning to be a handyman as i haven t been able to do as much these last few months he installed 2 toilets just a few months ago he also finished gwendolyn s bed that i had started but was unable to finish because i needed to avoid the chemicals as for me i had lost all the baby weight before alexander turned 1 only to start putting it back on with baby number 3 right now i m in the home stretch with only a few weeks left to go the baby was due september 11 but my doctor pushed it out to the 20th because the baby is measuring small even at 2 1 2 weeks late i measured small with gwendolyn but she was most definitely fully done so this is nothing new i m just running out of room and uncomfortable but the end is in sight we just need to get alexander taken care of before this baby arrives so we re hoping to get his surgery very soon so i can be with him in the hospital without making the staff uneasy about possibly delivering a baby at the children s hospital apparently that has happened once before overall we are doing well we re optimistic for the future especially these next few weeks which will bring new and exciting changes and challenges for our family posted by andrea at 2 19 pm no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest saturday december 7 2013 aspirator late tonight i was sent to the store to get among other things an aspirator for our new baby i took all of my items to the checker the barcode didn t give a price on the aspirator they did a price check they couldn t find it the person that called to check the price said they were unable to sell it to me it was the only place open it wasn t an emergency but it seemed a bit odd the checker and the person behind me encouraged me to fight it a security guard called a manager for me five minutes later up came the same person that told me they were unable to sell it oh dear she said i m sorry but we re unable to sell it to you so i said ok can i just have it then i see your ridiculous and raise you a nickel she almost laughed at me and said how then said ok i ll give it to you for 2 pounds but no refunds posted by jeremy at 6 03 pm no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest thursday september 5 2013 miss manners gwendolyn found a twenty pence piece the following is an account of the conversation that followed gwendolyn look andrea you found a twenty pence piece gwendolyn holding it up still say please andrea please gwendolyn satisfied grin while handing it over here you go posted by andrea at 7 11 am no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest tuesday september 3 2013 taste testing gwendolyn has started exploring the world via taste lately for example when my friend erin came for a visit she bought swan food to feed the royal swans and gwendolyn thought that was oh so fun the swans seemed to enjoy the food so gwendolyn decided to find out why and tried some herself this of course got the gag reflex of her mommy which made it oh so much more fun to do again luckily we eventually ran out of swan food after watching the movie rio there was a scene where the bird fanatic tastes a feather to see if it belonged to the missing bird you see where i m going with this yep gwendolyn found a pigeon feather something she does often we have quite the collection from our many walks but this time she decided to find out more about the bird that dropped it she was in her carseat and we were driving so there was little i could do but gag and encourage her to drop the feather for her birthday we spent the weekend in wales and while on the beach she started licking rocks she also likes to lick her mommy and daddy occasionally we hope this phase ends soon posted by andrea at 2 43 pm no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest sleepover at the a e thursday night a sister in the ward asked if i could come over to help for an hour or so with packing her up since she has to be out of her place by the end of the month jeremy had a user group meeting and so i figured we d be ok helping for about an hour before gwendolyn s bedtime ideally taking a young child is not my first choice but this sister sounded desperate so off we went i was just finishing up packing up some clothes when i heard the sound of blister pack packaging being messed with i turned and saw gwendolyn had found a package of quinine sulfate and was chewing something so immediately i was concerned i grabbed her did a mouth sweep but she swallowed whatever she had in her mouth by then so i wasn t sure what to think she s never gotten into medication before not that she s ever had the opportunity but she s getting into the tasting phase of her life more of that later for another post and i didn t want to take any chances i decided we were done for the evening and took her home and on the way called poison control to ask what i needed to look for in the event she had swallowed some since the lady couldn t tell if any were gone she thought i was overreacting showing concern and said it was just some pain medication nothing serious but i wasn t familiar with the medication so i didn t say anything other than i needed to get gwendolyn home the poison control told me to get her to the a e asap so i packed her in the car and off we raced to nearest a e i contacted jeremy and let him know where we were in the event he got home in our absence and wondered where we were after waiting in the children s a e for 4 hours we finally saw the pediatric doctor who decided due to the nature of the medication and the strength of the dose they wanted to watch her for 12 hours it was a long long night we shared a room with a little boy that was thought to have had the mumps he wasn t a problem but his mom was a obnoxious and kept waking gwendolyn with all the noise she kept making the nurses had to check on him every 2 hours so this went on a lot during the night gwendolyn of course refused to sleep in her own bed and ripped off the monitoring wire as soon as she discovered it the first time we were wakened i was pressed up against a wall on my side the entire night with gwendolyn pressed up tightly next to me when the pediatrician came in to check on gwendolyn at 6am and explained why she kept us there overnight she greeted gwendolyn with a cheerful good morning gwendolyn growled back and pulled the covers over her head we both were very happy to see jeremy and left the moment we were discharged jeremy was sweet and worked from home so i could get a little much needed nap we decided to go out on a date that evening and have someone else tackle the challenge of getting gwendolyn to bed that night best decision we could have made posted by andrea at 2 32 pm no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest thursday august 22 2013 bee the british apparently don t see the value of screens so most houses typically don t have therm this presents a problem on warm days when the only possible way to cool your antique house is by opening windows to let in whatever breeze there is along with the hoped for cool breeze come other outdoor elements but they usually come and go as they please this includes our two cats today while i was cleaning in the kitchen before lunch a yellow jacket kept insisting on coming in i repeatedly tried to shoo it out only to have it return or it s friend return gwendolyn of course thought this was hilarious watching mommy scold the bad bee and for the rest of the day she went around the house scolding and swatting at imaginary bees while laughing hysterically posted by andrea at 3 29 pm no comments email this blogthis share to x share to facebook share to pinterest friday august 16 2013 eat it gwendolyn and i have been spending a lot of time in the kitchen lately and have made quite a few different things together she is proud of her work she likes to share her creations too her favorite person to share food with daddy yes daddy is the official taste tester she likes to feed food to those she likes and only foods she likes so really in a way it is an honor to be the chosen one he can tell it s coming when she gets a wide grin sometimes with her mouth wide open as she brings something to his face and then with a full grin and wide eyes tells him eat it until he does what she says she really enunciates her words so there is no confusion as to what she means posted by andrea at 6 45 am no comments email this blogthis
