worry angst can feel like a comfortable piece of clothing so comfortable that we may not even realize we are wearing it unbeknownst to you and me we have been wearing the clothing of a worrier one who is filled with angst and worry but that is not the clothing of a child of god perhaps today god is asking you to shed the clothing of a worrier and here is the amazing part when we cease worrying and embrace the cloak of prayer the holy spirit will envelop us with a layer of peace not a peace that is based on the absence of trials not a peace that only comes once your situation has been turned around no it is a supernatural gift of god in which even in the middle of the storm his peace calms you in a way that only he can a peace that defies human comprehension a peace that can literally be the law of the lord and on his law he meditates day and night he will be like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither and in whatever he does he prospers psalm 1 1 3 this psalm presents two distinct paths the first path is one of disobedience and a disregard for the ways of the father it shows an indifference to god s word and his will the second path is one of intimacy with god obedience and the blessings of being a child of god a path where the word of god is truly a lamp unto the feet of the one who is traveling the path of blessedness beloved where are you on this journey of faith are you choosing to obey him are you choosing to spend time in his word daily meditating upon his very words to you are you avoiding people places and situations that will inevitably turn your heart away from the true and living god is your heart soft and moldable so that when he speaks you quickly obey i often ask the lord to search my heart because he sees to the deepest depths of what i cannot see he sees what lingers there that which has no place there it is in this place of reflection that i am brought to a crossroads today you may find yourself at a similar crossroads what will you choose will you choose to plant yourself by the streams of living water because it is in this place that your roots will delve deep into those waters providing nourishment for your soul when we make this choice to be planted and rooted we will bear fruit it does not mean things will be a bed of roses all the time but what it does mean is can distract us there is a truth that god has for us to hold on to a truth that brings light into darkness a truth that serves as a lifeline for those drowning in the turbulent waters of this world here is the truth and i pray that it fills your heart with immeasurable hope god in his boundless love sent his son jesus to atone for the sins of you and me he wants to offer you a gift today this gift is the precious gift of salvation this gift of salvation is not obtained by being perfect because there is nothing you and i can do to earn god s perfect love for it is by grace you have been
