56 i found one on amazon that is identical for 10 installation is simple remove a few screws and the air filter cover plug the hole so nothing gets into your engine drill the precut hole with a step drill bit screw the brake lock into the screw holes replace everything and it is done i think i am getting more confident iwth installing stuff on the bike now i purchased an indoor outdoor cover that is virtually identical to the one the dealer sells again on amazon the dealer model costs 250 the aftermarket cover cost me 62 the front trunk or the frunk as ryker riders refer to cost 82 at the dealership i found one on amazon for 55 i picked up two helmet locks for 14 which i never seen at the dealership but are proving handy not only for securing my helmet but also giving me a place to hang the helmet when it is stored in my shed a phone mount at the dealership costs between 140 and 170 i found the quad lock system on amazon for 140 which included a vibration damper and extension arm and the mag case for 147 which in my opinion is far superior to both the ram mount or the peak mount the dealer sells the key for the can am ryker is the silliest thing small little plug like gadget that pushes over a ball the key is very small and i imagined myself losing it quickly i found a key cover on amazon for 26 and another one on temu for 7 the standard handgrips on the ryker are very thin and owners say they hurt their hands can am sells a sport grip that costs 55 but i found grip puppies for 7 for two pieces very easy install with some handcleaner and patience i made some other purchases as well i found a good quality rainsuit on amazon for 70 made by kemimoto a motorcycle backpack for 45 a trim removal kit for 15 a kemimoto tailbag love this one for 84 a pair of stick on convex mirrors stock mirrors are terrible according to ryker owners for 6 slingmods sells them for 60 cdn i ordered a shifter extension for 40 the ryker only has two gears forward and reverse thanks to the cvt transmission the stock shifter is murder on the boot the extension allows ease of use can t wait for this to arrive i purchased a tire repair kit and a small air compressor these are both arriving today i also added a battery booster in the event me or another rider has a dead battery can t be too prepared talking about being prepared i am an insulin dependent diabetic and always worried my insulin will get hot on a ride i found a great product on amazon the breezypack this thing keeps your insulin at room temperature no matter how hot or cold it gets outside it doesn t rely on batteries or a charger either total cost for the aftermarket items was 2077 and at the dealership same items not including rain suit breezypack shifter extension tail bag convex mirrors cost 3023 i highway hobbies life motorcycle travel welcome to sightsntrykes huge welcome to the latest version of my blog i first began this blog back in 2014 when it was going to be a photography cooking blog named sightsnbytes although the first few posts were about food and some about pictures i had taken while living in the city of st john s newfoundland writing the posts eventually bored me and the blog evolved into a story sharing place instead i surprised myself with some of the material i had written and actually had some amazing comments on the things i had came up with what i have discovered through the years is that i get bored quickly so i started writing horror stories instead of happy family based material which eventually evolved to the point i changed the name of the blog to frightsnbytes pretty catchy i might say but dealing with severe writers block hasn t helped me come up with anything unique so i stopped writing except for a few stories here and there now i am back since i always wanted to ride motorcycle but never considered the condition of my back after 20 years working as a logger i had to settle on more wheels than i first wanted so i bought a can am ryker which is a 3 wheeled motorcycle the bike or should i say trike is pretty rare in the place i live i get weird looks from onlookers and one guy praised my creativity by modifying an old snowmobile into my new ryker apparently this guy doesn t know me well nor does he know about my lack of mechanical skills or my even greater lack of creativity except for writing so what you see here is a 2026 can am ryker sport 900 the bike has a 3 cylinder 900cc engine two wheels up front and one driving the bike in the rear the trike has no gears just a cvt transmission which gives me one less thing i have to learn although i have been driving cars since 1980 and have driven snowmobiles atv s and side by sides and of course bicycles my entire life i have never driven anything like this and it was both frightening and exciting to think about purchasing one the first thing i did once i convinced my lovely wife i really needed this bike more on that later was to work on getting my licence i studied for the written portion of the test and passed that part easily before i could do any of this i needed a bike i traveled to the dealership and luckily they a can am ryker on display i took a few pictures and tried to talk myself out of purchasing one but i was set on doing this given this was late september i decided to wait until the spring to buy one rather than buy this one a 2024 model and have to store it through the winter all winter i dreamed of my new bike i watched youtube videos joined facebook groups and visited the can am website to build the model i wanted i had researched everything about the model of can am ryker i wanted of course the damn winter dragged on and was one of the longest stormiest we have had in quite a while my wife and i visited the dealership in february we spoke to the product advisor jeff keeping at rapid power sports https www rapidpowersports com en in little rapids newfoundland jeff was great to deal with i highly recommend this dealership and of course jeff we worked out a deal and when asked when i wanted to bring the ryker home i estimated winter would end may 15 i was not totally correct but close on the way home we stopped into corner brook to shop for gear our first place and only place to go was adventure moto https adventuremotonl ca the business manager jamie buffet was an old friend of my brother s and an avid biker jamie assisted us in choosing everything i needed and gave great prices as well i got everything i needed from jamie including my jacket pants boots and gloves all in one place now that i was equipped to ride all i needed was my can am ryker and for all this damn snow to melt the bike arrived on the snowy day of may 13 2026 the guys who trailered her in yes its a her drove the ryker off their enclosed trailer and into my shed where we closed the door quickly to prevent the shed from filling with snow throughout the winter i had purchased a ton of accessories and was anxious to start installing the stuff i installed a windshield and hand deflectors i bought on amazon a two up seat called an ultimate seat which is made here in canada and highly recommended on all the facebook groups i joined it was not cheap but in my opinion much better than the seat that a comes with the bike once i was done with the installations i stood and looked at my newest toy wow i couldn t wait to take her for a drive sadly this wouldn t be for another two weeks as the snow and rain never let off for days got the bike need the licence the next step in obtaining a motorcycle licence for a three wheeled motorcycle was to practice with an experienced rider for 3 months i had to find someone who has had their motorcycle licence for at least 4 years to accompany me on my rides and to train me how to stay alive on a motorcycle no matter the number of wheels i had driven a few times on a friend s spyder back in september and october but not on my own bike i wanted to learn to drive my own bike i was lucky to have a brother who owned multiple motorcycles and who loved riding we went out riding every time we both had time off work in the evenings weekends and even mornings if we found the time i went from not knowing how to give correct throttle i almost ran into my house once then almost backed into my car and how to use brakes we started out riding short distances mostly a mile or two to get my confidence up i remember clinching my teeth as i held the handle bars so tight i nearly cracked them off i sat stiff as a board just holding on for dear life and wishing the ride was done and questioning why i ever bought this thing in the first place eventually i learned to relax a bit and the ride became more enjoyable every trip was a little longer than the last and sometimes with more challenges my favourite ride was through town which was important to know as the entire road test consisted of a ride through town see below i learned how to do head checks as my brother said they can save your life i think i am becoming a better car driver now thanks to learning to drive motorcycles and even more important to notice motorcyclists on the road and give them some respect after a few more rides i decided i was ready for my road test and ready to start driving my bike on my own i did the road test last week the missus who was testing my knowledge of motorcycles had no idea my ride had three wheels she said i had to stop at red lights and make sure both feet were on the ground and i should know my hand signals i tried explaining how my bike had three wheels once she realized this she was happy to tell me how i didn t have the restrictions of a normal motorcycle in that once i passed the road test i could drive wherever i wanted and at highway speeds yay she gave me a route to take and said she would follow close behind me she added that if a car cut us off i was to pull over and wait for her of course what she didn t realize was my horrible memory my love given i am from newfoundland we call everyone my love if they are females i have no short term memory i probably forgot everything you just told me she doubted what i said and added how i will be fine i took the wrong turn ten minutes into the ride so i had to find a place to turn around then look for the driver examiner on the roadside i passed by her allowing her to catch up this happened another three times before i pulled back into the parking lot of the motor vehicle parking lot she was fast to run over and comment on my poor memory you made one mistake other than getting lost five times you drove too slow of course i drove slow wouldn t want to get a ticket while doing my road test long story short i got my motorcycle licence now cannot wait for some adventures i can share with ya still have to do highway riding that is coming as soon as this rainy cold weather is done ah the joys of living in newfoundland what i want to do here is to feature a few photos i will share from happens on the drl bus that is at least interesting such as someone not having the correct fare and arguing with the driver or some mother yelling at her kids something to escape the blandness of a seven hour bus ride across the island even the highway was boring not a car or truck or even a transport truck on the highway which makes no sense to me the bus was filled from front to back but not a sound from anyone no laughing giggling chatter nothing the bus driver who kept his eyes on the road ahead showed no signs of life other than him staring straight ahead was i the only one who was conscious why was everyone so quiet the lady in the seat next to me appeared to be reading from an e reader one of those things from amazon but upon further inspection she was just staring at the screen the blank screen the thing wasn t even turned on everyone on the bus was motionless staring blankly into space everyone except for me that is i leave my seat and head up the aisle to speak to the driver and along the way i check out the rest of the passengers everyone is just sitting staring i notice one guy is sweating a lot in fact upon further study it was not sweat at all it was something much worst he was melting his face was drooping as his skin turned to jelly which oozed down over his chest exposing a metallic skeleton underneath now everyone on the bus became silvery metallic skeletons including the driver who for the first time took his eyes off the road and looked back at me now everyone on the bus now skeletons rather than people turned their eyes towards me what in the hell was going on here frantically i turn and run for the door but suddenly there is no door the walls of the bus also begin to melt as colours of yellow white and black meld together and ooze down the sides of the bus down across the floor up to my feet i attempt to jump towards what once was the door but now its just a slimy mess as well i slide off as if there was never a door there i look towards the front windshield which is also melting and notice another vehicle another bus heading towards us on the other side of the highway i began pounding on the windshield screaming hoping
