after somewhat sparse experiences at coomera and coombabah lakes mangroves i headed for emerald lakes in carrara and was not disappointed drysdale ducks there was a post on the birding aus list asking about the recent reports of large numbers of pink eared duck and freckled duck at lake lorn cairns foreshore we drove from ingham to cairns today with a few stops for walks but it was so hot in the middle of the day that the birds were sensibly nowh ricketts point i had the pleasure of catching up with an old friend for lunch today at the ricketts point teahouse beachside café and of course packed t 13th beach waders revisited it s getting close to the departure time for our migratory waders so i returned to 13th beach to check on the red necked stint and pa hybrid lorikeets never
