march 10 2018 at 2 28 pm they often show uner plastimarx from mexico in playset from 80s made there they run then in mix colors and metallic blue as far i had seen in playset never seen in bags any ways very abundant vintage all over as well best reply andy says march 10 2018 at 4 44 pm would pick up some recast mounted if i saw them probably cost more than the original turquoise though kent has a couple originals on his site now for 3 each recast 54mm mounted 7th cavalry are a new one on me reply don perkins says march 10 2018 at 6 04 pm just in case anyone is interested the cts home page is now offering a complete original set of 9 in all 4 poses of the 54mm mounted 7th cavalry price is marked down to 54 95 for the set which equates to 6 10 per figure plus postage arlin tawzer says march 12 2018 at 10 06 am all good points i guess i won t worry about it it just struck me seeing originals used for conversions like the kid who puts his dad s vintage coins on the railroad tracks to get them squished reply andy says march 12 2018 at 2 28 pm it would be like putting mickey mantle and ted williams rookie cards on bicycle spokes reply arlin tawzer says march 12 2018 at 2 32 pm yep just like that reply ray robinson says march 13 2018 at 9 01 pm am i right in thinking that the publius limited edition individual vikings are from lead molds reply admin says march 13 2018 at 9 31 pm no 2018 at 11 21 pm hi everyone i m new to this site but have been reading on it for some time i really enjoy the news and the posts on 54 60mm plastic toy soldier conversions i am a 15mm and 28mm sculptor who has recently gotten into converting 54mm 60mm plastic figures as well i also have begun sculpting some originals in this scale some franco prussian figs and eventually some acw as well some of my older sculpts are posted on my web page but i haven t updated images for awhile showing my new sculpts i need to do that as i have done many more now i m interested in most eras but really love the musket age of acw and the franco prussian war i am doing a lot of acw conversions at the moment being from wisconsin i of course love the iron brigade so i have done about 40 poses of iron brigade conversions painting about 25 of them so far doing a lot of rebel poses as well i convert a lot of conte plastic figures and also tssd some cts and marx repros or broken vintage figs does anyone on this group sell on ebay i am just beginning to post some of my conversions for sale to see how they do kind regards jon cooley reply erwin says june 24 2018 at 7 51 pm i do sale in ebay x years now as well best reply jon cooley says june 24 2018 at 10 13 pm cool erwin what is your ebay name so i can see your items reply jon cooley says june 24 2018 at 10 31 pm mine is jocool0 reply erwin says june 25 2018 at 5 33 am is sellss1 thanks will look in to yours as well best tdbarnecut says june 25 2018 at 2 06 am hi jon i looked at your 54mm sculpt looks good the posting is dated to 21 june 2012 six years ago reply jon cooley says june 25 2018 at 4 46 pm hi tdbarnecut yes the ones shown on my website are quite old i have begun several new 60mm sculpts in the last few months and have created more armatures to begin sculpting on i ll need to update my site at some point to show those and some of my conversions as well up to about a year ago i was concentrating mostly on 28mm franco prussian sculpts kind regards jon reply tdbarnecut says june 25 2018 at 7 33 pm i m curious to know your sculpting medium clay or putty or wax or and then once you have created the prototype how do you make copies do mold them and cast them in tin pewter or resin or your sculpts are really well detailed reply jon cooley says june 25 2018 at 11 27 pm i use green stuff kneadatite and procreate gray for sculpting these are both 2 part epoxy puttys you can easily purchase you mix the two parts colors together until they turn either green for kneadatite or gray for procreate and then you have about an hour and a half to shape the putty it is very sticky during this time then it begins to harden and after curing overnight is very hard the procreate is what i mostly use now because you can sand it when it hardens once the master figure is done i can have a mold made for it that is used to produce many copies of the figure molds can be made to produce either metal or plastic resin figures soft plastic would require steel cut molds which are very expensive to have produced the molds for resin figures would only be good for producing a limited number of figures before the mold begins to degrade through wear and tear i have recently found a company in madison wi that does mold making and casting services that i ll eventually use for this as i don t make molds or cast myself i love creating detail on the figures and especially like to modify the poses headgear and facial features add beards alter the face etc kind regards jon brian johnson says june 24 2018 at 7 04 pm so what s your ebay name reply admin says june 24 2018 at 7 30 pm stadsstuff what elase reply jon cooley says june 24 2018 at 10 22 pm nice i ve added you to my saved sellers list kind regards jon reply jon cooley says june 26 2018 at 10 57 am unpainted vs painted plastic figures what do you most collectors collect unpainted same color or painted plastic figures i do paint a lot of my figures including conversions but was wondering as it seems a fair amount of plastic figure collectors prefer same solid color plastic figures what do you all think and what are your preferences reply don perkins says june 26 2018 at 11 11 am unfotunately due to my lack of creativity and or painting skills i just collect unpainted plastic and in terms of buying a company s plastic or metal which they have painted the price is usually a little too expensive for me but i ve gotton to where i m completely satisfied with just having solid color plastic figures besides being a collector of marx it was what i played with as a little boy and in some circles it s considered bad form to paint original vintage marx reply jon cooley says june 26 2018 at 1 05 pm yeah painted figures are definitely more pricey i can t bring myself to paint or convert vintage figures either as they are just too rare i will convert and sometimes paint broken vintage figures i get though kind regards jon reply erwin f sell says june 26 2018 at 2 04 pm i collect both painted and unpainted no difference vintage european as most painted will often get with paint but many had plenty pain off unpainted in most us made are in vintage new production i can have then painted or not it does not matter to me plastic and close light resin are my main collection not metal heavy resin or composition any non plastic i own are from my grandfathers family as memories any old vintage non painted i use not to paint then but if plenty poses repeated i paint then if like or not i do not care about resting value as are x me only best reply jack gibbons says june 26 2018 at 8 11 pm while we are on the painted figure thread i was wondering how one goes about cleaning britains deetail figures without removing the paint i have a large group that will soon go on ebay and need to have the dust or dirt removed these also come on the tan metal bases that are also painted any thoughts would be appreciated reply don perkins says june 26 2018 at 8 40 pm each figure has to be held under lukewarm running water while brushing lightly with a soft bristle tooth brush this will remove dust dirt and grime but will not harm the paint then lay the figure on cloth or paper towels to air dry reply bill in virginia says july 10 2018 at 10 49 am hello stad we last spoke at 2018 mfca in may question who do i contact for a vendor especially musicians are so expensive one of my primary areas of collecting is marching bands and i ve often thought that a greek evzone band would be a nice and different addition to my band collection was just surfing ebay and saw a large collection of aohina figures maybe 25 or so listed for 200 and some outrageous or so i thought shipping there were only eight musicians so i didn t give it much thought other than to wonder why such a high price any thoughts reply admin says august 9 2018 at 6 19 pm they are very popular with collectors in greece i have been selling them to greece with no qualms at 10 00 each reply george albany says august 9 2018 at 7 23 pm wow welp so much for adding a greek band to my collection thanks reply erwin f sell says august 9 2018 at 8 53 pm love the seller s id https www ebay com itm vintage timmee russian soldiers complete set of 12 in red very rare 372424674337 hash item56b63d8c21 g vleaaoswa5tbjvni reply don perkins says november 2 2018 at 3 12 pm this 800 00 price tag makes john stengel jr look like a waif in the woods john was only asking 500 00 for his identical set which also including a matching color timmee deuce a half truck reissue but as pawn stars rick harrison points out to customers of his who come into the store with stars in their eyes on the internet anyone can ask for any price but that doesn t mean they re going to get what they ask for admittedly however a set in that matching color has to be pretty rare reply admin says november 2 2018 at 4 09 pm yes the price is crazy as one person said to me once someone will pay my price there are people who will put a price on it if it sells then great otherwise they will keep it my philosphy is turn over reply erwin f sell says november 2 2018 at 9 54 pm i m very happy with plenty recast made by greg i sold or resold a lot doubles no interest at all in color match in my collection and red x soviets is a silly idea russian soldiers in soviet time never dress in red so the wrong depiction of grey x germans so wrong wasted used in toy soldiers in the other hand if today many us pay 10 00 or more x new production figures i can see the insane price mentality been logical though by some sellers and i bet they are some w deep pockets willing pay x it those high buyers barrely go show and buy online most other day i saw a simple set match skin marx indian red colors go for silly end bid of 234 00 when they are so abundant in soft plastic it all depend if the crazy buyer will show to buy it my thought best reply wayne w says november 2 2018 at 11
