anpro can deliver customized lighting solutions that address your unique industry challenges learn more lighting inspo expert insights our online journal guide 101 to programmable lighting in our contemporary world there are several spaces that require lighting 24 hours a day 7 days a week for safety reasons be it warehouses parking lots storage facilities or residential complexes all these areas necessitate continuous lighting which demands a tremendous energy output and corresponding high costs what options are available tri level programmable lighting equipped with integrated motion sensors is an interesting solution it addresses the problem insofar as the fixtures are simpler and less costly than lighting automation control systems programmable lighting consists of programmable tri level fixtures with an integrated motion sensor this type of solution is specifically designed to prevent dissipation of energy in spaces and applications where continuous lighting is the rule moreover programmable lighting is recommended by hydro québec as a tip to adopt good consumption habits this form of lighting allows the user to maximize energy costs yet maintain sufficient lighting in those spaces that need it on a 24 7 basis this means that brightness is kept at low intensity but can be increased to its fullest when the sensor detects movement in the area the fixture is thus used at full strength only when necessary another benefit of installing programmable fixtures is the cost saving that results from the improved energy consumption of the lighting system such a cost saving measure can be achieved using a fixture that functions at maximum capacity not only when it registers movement but also when it detects natural light thus as natural light intensifies throughout the day the fixture s lighting level will decline stanpro now offers two types of programmable lighting for quick shipping as well as several customized options in its product lines that include vapor tight products high bay fixtures and led strip fixtures the stanpro tri level led ceiling luminaire is a favorite among property managers looking to reduce energy consumption in their buildings it is also perfectly suited for offices hallways washrooms etc controlling the level of lighting is achieved by way of switches located on the fixture itself the user can thus control the detection area holding time light sensing reserve period these tri level sensors can be programmed directly on site so as to adjust the fixture according to the specific lighting requirements of your space in addition stanpro offers a tri level led strip fixture the l2tlv equipped with a tri level high frequency microwave integrated motion sensor that is ideal for a wide range of spaces 24 7 it can be installed in a warehouse your office spaces or a factory in parking lots or even hotels this programmable lighting system is a guaranteed energy saver moreover the l2tlv can be installed in series essentially this means that you might use this programmable fixture and connect it to another non programmable led strip fixture the l2stn while reaping the rewards from a motion sensor it is also fitted with an additional control function compared to the tri level ceiling luminaire in that it allows the user to regulate the standby dimming level stanpro is a canadian manufacturer with a production capacity that allows it to customize your orders to your exact lighting requirements the motion sensor technology can be optionally installed on the following products customizable vapor tight fixtures vt2 l vt4 l vn8 l vte4 l customizable high bay fixtures l1fb fn l l1rth customizable led strip fixtures l2stn for more information check out our occupancy sensors selection guide finally programmable lighting is an enlightened choice for those spaces that demand constant lighting 24 hours a day 7 days a week the programming capabilities of this type of system based on a wide range of parameters will ensure greater energy savings at a cost that is far lower than that of lighting automation control systems this solution is all the more relevant in this day and age when we consider that the covid pandemic has significantly reduced the use of public and office spaces learn more our online journal emergency lighting are you getting what you paid for have you ever gone into a big box store looking for a product and find two similar products but one is twenty percent cheaper only to bring it home attempt to assemble it and then realize why it was twenty percent cheaper have you ever regretted that kind of purchase this phenomenon is not limited to items sold in big box stores it is also present at electrical distributors with the emergence of offshore imported products products that might seem identical at a first glance and that are usually less expensive might have you wondering if you are getting what you paid for is the product easy to install does it meet code will the quality outlast its warranty or worse can you even claim against the warranty these questions can be asked especially when it comes to emergency lighting not only are ease of installation and warranty essential but more importantly life safety is at stake in the emergency lighting market we have seen the introduction of led technology in remote heads a decrease in wattage consumption a voltage drop longer runs at decreased dc voltage reduction of the overall system purchase price and installation cost a 3 led watt emergency double remote fixtures might seem the same when they are next to each other but are they really one design might have an led array designed to reach up to a 77 foot spacing while the other uses a repurposed tungsten style lens design offering 28 foot spacing so the upfront cost of the repurposed lens design might seem to be 20 percent less expensive but the end user will require three times the number of remotes to achieve the same coverage money considerations aside more importantly life safety may be at risk is the less expensive remote improperly installed and not able to provide minimum light levels prescribed in the canadian building code section 3 2 7 3 that mandates a minimum of 10 lux at floor or tread with no less than 1 lux worth saving a few pennies the situation is not limited to emergency remote heads but also emergency lighting battery units led remotes are an integral part of most battery packs and the above mentioned issues not withstanding with respect to remote heads the questions are now greater again they may seem the same next to one another but one must ask is the line cord installed or does the end user have to install it if it is even provided at all are there terminal blocks installed inside the cabinet designed for ease of wiring when connecting remote heads or do the simple un skinned wired leads require skinning and wire connectors is the charger board easily accessible for future maintenance if required what is the overall quality of the electronics and the battery twenty percent savings for how much pain in conclusion appearances can be deceiving and upfront cost savings may be tempting however as in the latin saying goes caveat emptor buyer beware with over 400 years of combined experience stanpro is committed to providing professional consultation and high performing quality products that meets all provincial and national building codes backed by a comprehensive warranty contact your stanpro sales representative for all your emergency lighting needs learn more our online journal reducing light pollution through your choice of outdoor lighting since the advent of the industrial revolution western societies have gotten into the habit of living in a world surrounded by light both inside and outside the home which allows people to pursue their activities after the sun has gone down and yet have you ever given any thought to the negative effects of an overly lit environment the overriding consequence is light pollution of our cities what can we do to counter this phenomenon light pollution is an occurrence that manifests itself at dusk it is caused by an overabundance of misdirected ineffective and useless lighting systems most notably in urban areas where artificial light sources such as street lamps are used excessively the following shows how street lamps light our exterior spaces light projected by a street lamp can be deconstructed into three parts firstly we have light that shines upwards as represented by zone a in the above diagram this lighting angle is lost and useless to people walking around outside it is also the predominant reason for the reduction of visibility of the stars in our city skylines the amateur astronomers federation of québec has revealed that 97 of the populations of north america and europe live in lighting polluted skies secondly we have light that shines at a 10 degree angle above the horizon and that results in a glare as identified by zone b in the above diagram this light is also detrimental to surrounding areas as it generates intrusive lighting finally the last is the only true light as defined by zone c in the above diagram in light of the above we need to ask ourselves a pertinent question what future do we wish to offer generations to come artificial lights have replaced stars and darkness which are harmful to human health scientists have noted that the production of melatonin is delayed when our circadian rhythm is exposed to excessive lighting the circadian rhythm is the process that regulates our sleeping patterns consequently with a disproportionate amount of light outside the time it takes for our bodies to fall asleep at night is extended and our sleep is less than satisfactory over time studies suggest that this might increase our risk of suffering from obesity depression diabetes etc we invite you to read our articles entitled led and its possible health effects part 1 and part 2 to learn more about the potential harm of artificial light on the general population we also need to consider how light pollution affects animals and their behaviour we know that some species hunt reproduce migrate and hibernate in the dark intense brightness at night tends to disrupt the usual behaviour of these nocturnal animals they confuse artificial light with the light of the moon this disturbance can also affect the chances of survival of some prey who have adapted to darkness to better avoid nighttime predators thus on a larger scale excessive and useless lighting can have damaging repercussions on several ecosystems the exaggerated use of misdirected or useless lighting causes an enormous waste of energy this economic impact on cities industries and individuals cannot be discounted the aafq estimates that the cost of wasted light energy projected toward the sky stands at 45 million dollars each year in québec alone raging a war against light pollution does not mean we should discontinue lighting our cities we simply need to light them more adequately we need to find an effective and relevant lighting process based on spatial considerations the international dark sky association ida programme was founded in 2001 to promote responsible lighting policies and to educate the public on the preservation of our dark sky the association encourages the use of lighting systems that help reduce light pollution based on the following criteria lighting spaces only when it is necessary lighting targeted zones in spaces that require it opting for low intensity light fixtures reducing the diffusion of blue light and glare encouraging fully covered downward pointing lighting visit the ida page that talks about lighting basics english version only to learn more about lamps that meet night sky standards you may also want to read our article entitled led street lights not too dark not too bright just right that contains further information on lighting our exterior spaces without increasing light pollution to counter light pollution we need to make suitable lighting choices to do so we must focus on quality lighting systems that are safe and adequately calibrated to reduce their impact on our environment the ida recommends using a light that does not exceed 3 000 kelvins and directing that light toward the area where it is required the dark sky certification from the ida indicates one s promise to respect the recommendations of the association s programme regarding outdoor lighting stanpro outdoor light fixtures are undergoing a certification process at the moment following is an actual list of our dark sky certified products stay tuned to discover all our products that will soon be certified learn more our online journal envisioning post pandemic office lighting since march 2020 people over the world have had to face a harsh reality on both a personal and professional level that of the global tsunami called covid 19 this massive upheaval has given rise to a wide range of questions about the future in particular how should we envision post pandemic office lighting whether it involves sanitary measures organization or infrastructure companies have had to accommodate to this new reality in order to ensure their survival as well as their longevity evolving in a business world paralyzed by stringent restrictions was an overwhelming challenge in 2020 one year later vaccination is well under way and we are gradually looking to the future what will become of remote working after covid 19 how will we configure our buildings and our offices with the gradual return of personnel businesses now have to cope with a major challenge in the near future we will need to reflect on ways to adjust our spaces to this post pandemic reality which despite massive vaccination will continue to experience changes that this affliction has created whatever choice businesses make along the way be it full time remote work or alternate staffing these spaces will require adjustments to meet new standards established by the government the choice of fixtures for lighting systems will also be part of the reflection when envisioning post pandemic office lighting one of the challenges businesses will be facing is to create office spaces that meet the need for flexibility in the balance between remote and in person work balance that will be different for several groups of employees within the same company stephanie bisaillon stanpro human resources leaderone of the significant issues we faced from the very beginning of this pandemic was the large number of contacts between individuals how can we help reduce the number of contacts between colleagues to avoid the spread of the virus fixtures equipped with motion sensors are a simple and less costly solution than the connected devices that light up a space only when they detect a presence with this approach there is no need to constantly touch the switches to turn your lights on or off when you are at the office you can also regulate the lighting to select the illuminated surf...
