2015 back in colombia in bogotá for a few days before heading on to quibdó tomorrow the work starts in earnest today i started calling people trying to make arrangements though it s a little difficult since today is a holiday here and on the holidays things really come nearly to a halt very refreshing after the way holidays have been merchandizing orgies in the us some of the main streets of bogotá are converted into ciclovías and there are lots of people out on bikes in bogotá i stay with a couple of dear friends when i woke up this morning i looked out the kitchen window and saw this welcome back to colombia i took the picture and thought about another friend s questions about making beautiful images of terrible situations here s what i wrote her about this image below this morning i woke in the apartment of friends here and took my 1st picture and thought of you because this picture is also about a piece of that set of big questions you had so here goes part of being a photographer is that you also really like to react to to record things you see that are beautiful or interesting or engaging and the more you do that the more it sensitizes you and you see more so you take them even if you have no idea what you would ever do with them except show them to friends and tomorrow i ll be meeting with general motors workers here who were injured on the job and have been on a hunger empieza de verdad hoy empecé a llamar a gente tratando de arreglar las cosas aunque es algo difícil porque hoy es festivo y en los días festivos acá las actividades paran casi todas el cual es muy refrescante después de la manera en que festivos se han convertidos en orgías de mercadeo en eeuu algunas de las calles principales de bogotá se convierten en ciclovías y hay mucha gente en esas calles montada en bicicletas en bogotá me quedo con un s amig s querid s al despertar esta mañana miré de la ventana de la cocina y vi esto bienvenido en tu regreso a colombia saqué la foto y pensé en las preguntas de otra amiga sobre hacer imágenes bellas de situaciones terribles a ella le escribí esto sobre esta imagen debajo esta mañana desperté en el apartamento de amig s acá y saque mi primera foto y pensé en ti porque esta foto también tiene que ver con un pedazo de aquel conjunto de preguntas grandes que tuviste pues digo una parte de ser fotógrafo es que a uno también le gusta realmente le gusta reaccionar a grabar cosas que uno ve que son bellas o interesantes o que enganchan a uno y entre más lo hace uno más le sensibiliza a uno y uno ve más por eso las saca aún cuando no tiene idea que puede hacer con ellas sino enseñárselas a l s amig s y mañana me voy a reunir con trabajadores de la general motors acá que han sido accidentados en el trabajo y la llevan cuatro años de
