lack of representation of women s roles in mining history in my art i had to do something to ammend this and will continue to do so it is sometimes challenging to uncover the role of women in mining history partly because the employment of women in the mines was made illegal in britain in 1842 under the mines and collieries act so the representation of women in this industry was untenable even so women did continue to work underground beyond the scope of government inspection afterwards women worked on the surface sifting coal among other duties there is a fantastic collection of photographs depicting women workers however which was useful for making these studies and for researching the history of labouring women mining history welsh history charcoal history artist on tumblr 1 7 poem by william blake though i did cut the first two verses because they did not quite fit the imagery in this piece i m sorry mr blake but the full poem is worth reading too i would have used an excerpt from the marriage of heaven and hell but i had already used the ideal excerpt in a previous post hiding behind the poetry of william blake some day i ll share my own poems and writings blood cries the soil bcts 2 5 26 tamarintoe tag endeavour thank you evyiart for tagging me reading the gods will have blood by anatole france thoroughly enjoying this book published in 1912 it is a novel that explores the violence and degradation of the reign of terror analysing the catastrophic downfall of a young artist who is possessed by revolutionary zeal and idealism it s much more than that of course i adore the character studies my favourite interactions are between the adamantly atheistic and nihilistic brotteaux and the devout and humble father longuemare gamelin being the protagonist is fascinating too of course it s a great book eerily prophetic of the violence wrought by those possessed by ideology ideals in order to reap political and social changes across europe and russia last series watched sas rogue heroes i love this show oh i could rant about it until the cows come home i m so excited for season 3 expect normalcy from me upon its release many thoughts i m probably going to watch the north water for the th time in short order last film watched master commander it was so good fantastic depiction of napoleonic era naval warfare loved seeing the ins and outs of the ship and the uniforms were brilliant love to see that i rather liked dr stephen maturin i am fond of ship surgeons as an archetype waiter more ship surgeons in 19th c maritime expeditionary historical media please but i wish since there s a passing remark made by captain aubrey with the intent to remind maturin of his station when he questions the captain s leadership as a friend regarding maturin being irish this was thoroughly under explored but i was curious what maturin s experience was in serving the empire especially considering the iconic line delivered by aubrey this ship is england i just feel that there was so much potential to deliver a brilliant analysis of the british empire at its zenith and what the experiences were of those operating within it at different levels however i know that wasn t the purpose of the film plus it was made in the 2000s it could have been though ah it s a good watch i enjoyed aubrey and maturin s dynamic particularly the scenes where they were playing music together rather sweet fellas is it gay to play dirges with your best friend who is also the ship surgeon and goes wherever you go oh i also found blakeley and his interactions with the crew the surgeon and the captain very interesting how the captain gave the boy a book about nelson while the surgeon indulged the boy s curiosities about nature and science it s nice to see the perspectives of children in a historic setting listening to rather a lot of the decemberists picaresque and the hazards of love are on loop i am very enthusiastic about these albums i ve also been listening to petrojvic blasting company daniel kahn the painted bird dead can dance rasputina cosmo sheldrake matt elliott american murder song mewithoutyou steeleye span shirley collins fairport convention the young tradition tia blake sybille baier coil swans tom waits and much much more sweet or salty i have been consuming a most gargantuan quantity of sun dried tomatoes and pickled goods lately however i am partial to blueberries apples dried apricots peaches and honey coffee or tea copious amounts of coffee no milk no sugar however i am partial to a fruit tea in the evenings working on blood cries the soil sound and fury is gathering dust but the furnaces are alight still i am trying to make the most of the summer before i return to academia not much art being made as i ve mostly been reading and plotting and researching i ve been avoiding instagram the world horrifies enrages and appals me and instagram seems to epitomise all that causes me to lament i have also had very little art to share anyway industrial history continues to be a great passion of mine in the dark recesses of the coal shaft that is my mind i am plotting and scheming however bcts really is in the limelight lately i tag anyone and everyone feel free the gods will have blood sas rogue heroes master and commander 3 3 tamarintoe reblogged scrapironflotilla follow british troops playing a game of
