club april 30 2026 kathryn published bookoutre date 21st april 2026 source publisher via netgalley mercy mccarthy is delighted to see old neighbors and new friends come to the bookstore to support her sister s autumn book club but as mercy closes the chapter on the evening she stumbles across local lifelessly slumped in a squashy armchair at the back of the store mercy recognizes her as one of the festival s main organizers and though she looks to be at peace the plot thickens when mercy notices a suspicious mark on her neck mercy knows this was no accident with so many people in the store that night any one of them could be the killer just as mercy reads a suspicious sounding entry for the festival s fiction writing contest another body turns up on the beach is someone in shamrock cove dying for a bestseller it s up to mercy and her crime solving canine companion mr poe to sniff out the suspects before another victim is taken a body at the irish book club is 5 in the mercy mccarthy mystery series lucy connelly is fast becoming my favorite cozy mystery writer with this series and her scottish series she has also begun one set in wales but i haven t read that here we have mercy back from a successful book tour for her latest mystery book quite delicious she is a popular author and her twin sister lizzie has organised a book signing for the local book clubs at her bookstore all goes well until that mr poe discovers a body he is a very smart dog who seems to smell out strange goings on and so the mystery unfolds slowly but in a very turn the page way we have mercy stepping in to add her tuppence to kieran the local policeman and perhaps a future beau for mercy she likes to ask questions and generally start to add things up all the usual characters are there helping out where they can also lizzie seems to be developing a new relationship which looks new but promising the mystery is good i suspected the murderer but then i wasn t totally sure like mercy i was trying to find the motive but eventually all is revealed i enjoyed my visit to shamrock cove and a new murder mystery i am already anticipating the next book there is an interesting envelope that books in children s literature picture books chapter books middle grade novels young adult novels or anything in those genres join them well winter kind of gave us a pre taste this past week first heavy rain and flooding in the capital city i do feel sympathy for all those who had water go through their homes the book i was listening to the river rises certainly was very appropriate reading then we were hit with a cold snap i had a fire going all day tuesday brr and then every day of the week was cold wednesday i travelled and saw some of the flooded parts i had to dust off a warm coat that day it had dust on the shoulders it s so long since i wore it but needs must when it s cold saturday we had a frost so i am not sure how many more of my tomatoes will ripen might be the end of them however i am sure we will slip back into autumn soon what i read last week what i am reading now this was a pick up off the shelf from the library it s not about summer but a character called summer and i am listening to murder with peacocks i found it a little confusing with all the characters but i think i have a handle on the main ones it is amusing and i am about to start this cozy ended things with her boyfriend which also ended her career that s the risk a girl takes when her boyfriend doubles as her boss with no income and no job prospects in sight jenna is forced to return to her mother s house on chincoteague island virginia to figure out what s next and the timing couldn t be more perfect jenna s widowed mother has just returned from a cruise with a brand new boyfriend in tow but there s something off about the guy his story doesn t quite add up and he keeps sneaking off to make suspicious phone calls and borrowing money from her too trusting mother in search of some investigative help jenna turns to her childhood bff tyson parker who lives and works in town still reeling from his wife s infidelity tyson is doing his best to heal from the pain of divorce he s made a name for himself on the island as a volunteer firefighter and one of the much admired saltwater cowboys who looks after chincoteague s wild ponies oh and he turned out to be more than a tiny bit attractive besides being almost too good to be true sweet and caring more than friend s by denise hunter is all about jenna and luke childhood to present day friends and as the title implies about to become far more both have come off long term relationships and jenna from a very embarrassing proposal from a person who doesn t really get it this is a small town story and set where the wild ponies on chincoteague roam this adds to the atmosphere and gives insight into life adjacent to them i liked that the beginning part of the book dragged for me could have been me i think not the book however the end was far more engaging as different aspects were explored and sorted yes there is quite a bit going on jenna s mother for instance seems to have gone into a relationship where there are red flags for jenna and tyson jenna lost her firefighter dad in an explosion tyson is a firefighter part time tyson has difficulty with a rescue that went wrong jenna lost her job and what can she do now if you like small town romance this time on the island of chincoteague simple romance with a little tension here and there then you may enjoy this one tagged denise hunter 4 comments wet day saturday with quite a bit of flooding so i stayed home there is more rain on the way but i hope its not as bad as they think as the roads flood up and i want to travel on wednesday so fingers crossed a very good week of reading loved the 2 vera wong book how to read a book by monica wood was a perfect reading experience loved it mary oliver writes such insightful poetry about nature and our lives you do not have to be good you do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves what i
