se it round up if you want to but i use exact numbers and see how close i can get to what the cashier rings up i m a nerd if you didn t keep a running total and are nervous when you get to the checkout ask your cashier to tell you when you reach a certain dollar mark it ll make your and their life so much easier at the end if you picked up more than you thought you did load the belt with the heaviest things first like milk watermelons 5 pound bags of jasmine rice bags of potatoes canned goods etc so that way the light stuff like your produce doesn t get squished the cashiers try to do a good job of keeping bread and easily crushed produce and eggs in the basket where kids can sit but there s only so much they can do once that s full if you re paying with a card you can swipe it before the cashier is finished ringing it makes the checkout process go quicker buy the reusable bags they are great quality and last forever not to mention they hold a lot of food the ones at my store are 1 99 for the big ones and 89 for the smaller ones but if you don t want to go that route their plastic bags for 10 cents are sturdy and reliable as well bring the bags back a lot of people don t know you can do this of course you can a goal of them having you purchase reusable bags is it s better for the environment and it saves you money too check the tags all of the prices for grocery items not in a cooler or freezer or in the special buy section are above the item also if you see a product that s new check the tag to determine whether it s an aldi find item or not if it is an aldi find item that means it s only available while supplies last and they won t be getting it back in stock check out the seasonal items like canned pumpkin three bean salad and some of their ice creams they don t have all the shelf room to keep everything in stock all season so they keep seasonal items on a rotation make sure you check with an associate if you want to purchase a bulk of a produce item for example this week our store had blueberries on sale for 99 cents and there was a four pint limit this is to ensure that they don t sell out of their produce picks of the week the first day they go on sale let everybody get some blueberries saints also milk and eggs usually have a limit on them as well aldi has a double back guarantee on most of their products if you see the double back guarantee picture on the product it s eligible if you are unsatisfied with the product for any reason you can return the product they will then refund your money and replace the product if you do love aldi let me know what you love about the store most if you haven t gone to one yet i highly recommend checking it out and seeing what aldi can do for your grocery budget thanks for reading saints uncategorized i broke the rule june 13 2017 the millennial manager hey saints of cinci i broke the cardinal rule of blogging consistency whoops life has been nuts i ve been changing things up a little bit and as a byproduct the blog has taken a backseat like a backseat in a 13 passenger van way back way back i finished my last semester at the public ivy league nightmare university and got a new job which has been keeping me exhausted and busy not to mention the other exciting and regular things that have been happening manfriend graduated with a double major still so proud tear and got his first adult job i started my new job redid my room my garden has begun to bloom i cut out coffee permanently etc etc so to my readers if you re out there still i m sorry i promise i haven t forgotten about you but i do update more on my ig overtherind which includes grocery hauls i m a recent aldi convert hidden restaurant gems things i m trying garden updates and the like i really hope you head over and follow me i m also on facebook over the rind if facebook is more your cup of tea i ll post a legitimate update soon but alas i have not forgotten you saints of cinci and beyond much love val leave a comment recipe eat your dogs food march 18 2017 march 18 2017 the millennial manager how to make your dog s food for under 10 hey guys i think we re all friends so i think it s time i introduce you to my daughter i am the proud dog mommy of an 11 year old beagle maggie aka maggsie aka marmaduke aka booboo aka punkin she pretty much responds to anything anymore she knows her mama is a little crazy maggie the beagle recently in her senior doggie status years maggie has developed a meat protein allergy at first i thought her vet was on some kinda wacky crack but turns out she really is allergic to meat proteins so my poor dog is now subjected to being what her grandmama is a vegetarian yup you heard it right vegetarian saints of cincy who ever heard of a vegetarian dog so the other night i almost threw up a little because i actually took the time to read the ingredients in her dog food i m not kidding i only knew what one thing was garlic oil i ve never even used garlic oil in my own food sure this food has helped her skin and allergies a lot but is it helping the rest of her probably not if i don t know what the ingredients are jeesh so i decided to take it upon myself to make her dog food for now we re balancing her new homemade food with her chemical vegetarian food yuck and i got the general idea recipe from an awesome youtuber hayley this is not sponsored i m just promoting her because i think her channel is awesome and her dog lola is adorable and i got the general idea for a recipe from her video here s hayley s channel and dog food recipe video so here is how i made maggie s vegetarian doggie food for under 10 ingredients carrots about 8 89 frozen peas 13 ounces 1 49 baby kale and baby spinach mix 1 97 black beans 10 ounce can 85 rice quinoa mix 1 99 3 hard boiled eggs 60 total 7 79 i started off by cracking open my better homes and gardens cookbook and learned how to cook a hard boiled egg y all i grew up on scrambles okay and then started the carrots in my steamer basket i added the peas more towards the end meanwhile i started to blend up the spinach and kale mix which i got on sale because the sell by date was today the rice and quinoa mix was awesome because it was red and wild rice mixed with quinoa and only 1 99 i took the easy way and microwaved it for 12 minutes i attempted to blend up the beans but they didn t exactly blend as well as i was hoping which is okay because i don t want her eating complete mush after that the eggs were done sitting in the steaming pot of water and my kitchen smelled like a giant fart i added them to the blender shell and all eggs smell like gas ugh the shells provide a good source of calcium which she needs for her bones anyway those got thrown into the giant bowl too then peas and carrots were done and yay the bowl was too small after it all got mixed together i gave her a sample afternoon snack in bed if you will she loved it and after i fed it to her she proceeded to get out of bed and lick the dishwasher of all remnants if anything will get that dog out of her bed it s food we re a like in a lot of ways maggie and her mama she s my sous chef i also bought a cute jar for 4 10 which i put her food in and refrigerated it i think she ll probably be good with about 1 2 a cup of food each serving what i really love about this dog food is it is totally stuff that i would eat maybe i wouldn t totally be into the texture sure but i know exactly what is in it and i know it s good because i made it myself hair flip have any of you ever made dog food if you have let me know in the comments what you did and how your dog baby liked it also if you re new here i d love if you followed me and stuck around i m also on instagram and facebook also catch up on my last post about spaghetti squash thank you so much for spending some time with me in my corner of the internet valerie tagged beagle cheap eats cheap healthy eats dog dog food dog mama dog mom food food blog foodie foodie blog meals under 10 over the rind under 10 vegetarian dog whole dog food whole food whole food for dogs leave a comment recipe non spaghetti spaghetti february 24 2017 the millennial manager spaghetti squash and the two knives it took to hack it open i find it almost comical how everyone who is in the healthy food clique of life is trying to make anything relatively un healthy healthy zucchini spiralizers have absolutely blown up in the past few months it seems and you can make pasta without flour or eggs or a trip to italy preposterous there s no carbs enter spaghetti squash i cook at least 3 meals a week and eat the leftovers in between fresh meals i m still attempting to build my recipe repertoire which has proved itself challenging thanks to pinterest my recipe box continues to fatten up and my grocery lists are far from bland anymore haha might i also add that i live at home with my parents and my mother is a vegetarian yes her kind are the kind who add to the spiralizing ridiculousness we call a food trend so i attempt to make foods that she can eat for at least two meals out of the 3 that i cook that week remember my mom is a vegetarian not a vegan there s a difference saints of cincy my trusty garlic press earned its keep tonight so for this week i had made a chicken artichoke tomatoey thing that my man friend likes and he s picky so that s a major accomplishment if he likes it y all i also made a creamy sun dried tomato and spinach pasta which is so good i could go on about that thing and finally i had spaghetti squash on my list of food for the week and it hung over my head all week because the grocery store in my neighborhood has been out for an entire week so when i went up north to see man friend last night i dragged him out to his grocery store at 9 o clock at night in search of a spaghetti squash and yes i did hold it up in the air like a football over the produce section when i found it i got my recipe off pinterest and here s the link to it http www eatwell101 com roasted spaghetti squash recipe so today i got out of college classes early and raced home to my beautiful spaghetti squash i have an entire quart that is now almost empty tear of heavy whipping cream that i got on sale for 1 about a month ago and lemme tell ya that thing is the bomb and you can use a lot of things you may already have at home you don t have to have the five cheese italian blend mozzarella would do just fine on its own my point is this can be a cheap meal if you allow it to be one of those filler meals you know anyway so i get home and get to work right away windows open because it s 70 degrees in cincinnati right now cray oven on and knife in hand i grab my spaghetti squash and give him a little bath no germs for me not today on a side note if you haven t seen that video and don t know what i m referencing you re missing out the first step on my instructions for dinner read cut off the tip and tail this is not as easy as it sounds let me assure you i know i may only be 105 pounds but that thing was determined it was not gonna get cut open well after about five minutes the spaghetti squash lost its battle after sawing the thing in half and dirtying two knives i finally had it cracked open then i scooped its innards out i mauled the thing guys the guts after being scooped out after i had them prepped and ready i had to put them in the microwave yes i took the shortcut okay i ended up microwaving it for about 11 minutes it wasn t fully cooked after 8 i prepped everything else in the meantime since my mother is a vegetarian i substituted a chicken bouillon cube for vegetable bouillon everything else was the same i did add olive oil and coated the insides of the spaghetti squash with that pre oven following up the olive oil with salt pepper and an italian seasoning grinder i poured a lot of cheese on the bottoms followed by the whipping cream mixture and yes you guessed it more cheese they got put on top of aluminum foil platforms on a cookie sheet and then i smelled the burning cream i ran downstairs to retrieve a 9 13 when i came back upstairs i felt like i was going to have to perform surgery to get them onto a plate and back into a 9 13 pan i did so in about two minutes they were then back in the warm oven and done in no time the finished product healthy beautifulness by the end of it the garlic and cheese and olive oil and yum was smelling so good i couldn t take it anymore i immediately transferred a half of the spaghetti squash to a plate and mixed the innards around let me tell you these bad boys make a ton of food and when i say a ton i mean a ton my dad said that s enough spaghetti squash to feed a family of eight for a week and he wasn t far off i didn t capture how much it made because i was too busy stuffing my face whoops sorry not sorry for this being my first time to eat spaghetti squash i must say i am very impressed i will make it again it was crunchy with just enough flavor from the cheeses and seasonings to make it pop you know the texture was very defined spaghetti like strands that took on the creaminess of the whipping cream and the nutty cheesy flavor of all those italian cheeses magnificent i cannot wait for leftovers tomorrow go indulge in a food trend today much love saints of cincy go out and enjoy this weather before it storms tomorrow tagged cheap
